Stella Locke is starting over. After an ugly divorce, she picks up her Southern roots and transplants to upstate New York where the air is crisp and no one knows her name. She’s an enthusiastic reader and just so happens to pick the quaint little spot where her favorite author lives. The small town of Grace welcomes Stella with open arms, a new job, and a smoking hot neighbor.
Lane Holder is a bit mysterious with his midnight jogs and brazen flirting. He’s got an adorable corgi named Chap who immediately steals Stella’s heart. In time, Stella is blown away by Lane’s charm, maturity, and undeniable interest in her. Being out of the dating game for 20 years has filled her with self-doubt and the hurt endured from her marriage has made her want to keep that part of her past hidden. Still, Lane convinces her to take a chance on him.
Their relationship is a slow, steamy burn that seems to be building toward something special and permanent. But as with any relationship built on secrets, one wrong move and it all could come crashing down.

Snapped this book up after it appeared on Casey McQuiston's Romcom Reads Recommendations ... as if that's not enough reason to pick it up - did you see the corgi on the cover? 🤗🐶
*************
This book is for you if you're in the market for a steamy version of a Hallmark movie and some fast friendships with quirky characters that share all the bants asap.
I am cynical + cranky and many of the MCs choices at the start of the book got my back up but the friendships she makes and her fam are positives and of course Chap the corgi wingman is the deservered recipient of a whole 🌟 Marley was a particular gem if a little OTT, I'm kind of glad her story will be the 4th release so she can continue to make appearances as the wacky bff in the other instalments. There was a very predictable (or so it seemed to me) roadblock which came about and lead to a combination of my least favourite communication issues *sigh*
2.5*
However these are obviously me issues and for many others this is just the kind of fun distracting read for these odd times we find ourselves in. Hopefully this'll be a better reading experience for you 🤞
I am not yet sure whether I'll pick up the other books in this series as they get released, will have to see where my head is at when they come out as they could be a fun pick me up to check back in with the other characters in this cute little town and support a self-publishing author 🤔
I made it about a third through before hanging it up. I've been pressing on for a while, despite not having anything engaging me, really. Stella isn't gelling as a character, for one. She's fortyish and feels decade(s) younger, maturity-wise. Which you can kind of get away with if you posit that she was buried in an oppressive marriage, but her family seemed active in each-others' lives with loving, invested involvement. So that doesn't quite work. And it doesn't help that she is pushed around by events rather than showing any kind of volition. Or that at this point, she has flashed her, um, ladies, at the neighbor three times in accidents that don't really work (each for different reasons). Or, how about this one, she's a size six, doesn't ever think about calories or healthy eating and actually thinks to herself (observing the main guy exercising) "I’d rather eat a pint of Ben & Jerry’s while curled up with my favorite novel than partake in any kind of physical activity. Yes, even sex."
I guess that it feels like everything works on author powers. Take the pushy realtor who wants to be her friend. She's a successful realtor, British, has purple hair, all the young single men owe her mysterious favors, and she's forever dropping in on Stella to push her into drinking and partying and wearing skimpy clothes. All those elements are possible in one person, I suppose, but it just feels like a lot to be asked to take in. She feels like a setup for a future romance in the series but is such a hodge-podge of elements that I can't say I'm much interested.
Anyway, I find my interest being pulled all over the place and I finally decided I don't really care to continue. I don't regret the time to this point as I'm in discovery mode. But part of my discovery mode is being willing to drop something that isn't working.
No rating on this one for . . . reasons. It's complicated. Which is why there's a link...
This was a fun quirky story. I love the town and people of Grace. Stella ended up with the best besties. Marley is a hoot! The attraction between Stella and her next door neighbor Lane, is a slow burn with all the feels . Lane seems perfect, but he is hiding a secret that will undermine his relationship with Stella. Good thing he has a cute corgi wingman. I look forward to reading more Grace character stories.
CHANGING LANES is just what I needed: small town rom-com with all the good feels. This book had some of my favorite things sarcastic characters, witty banter, and a strong friend group (aka found family). Vining has given me that with her rom-com debut. 😊 I really enjoyed my time in small town Grace. ✨
Absolutely loved this book!! From the witty, slapstick, sarcastic humor, to the heartache and sadness, this book brings to life so many emotions. It brings you into a life, friendship, and relationship as if it were real life. Can't wait for the next book!!
Changing Lanes by Season Vining is book one in The Welcome to Grace series. Stella Locke has recently divorced her cheating husband and has decided to pick up her life and move to upstate New York. Stella picks Grace, New York because that is where her favorite romance author Alaina Taylor lives. Her thinking is that if its good enough for Alaina its good enough for her to start over. Upon arriving in Grace she meets her next door neighbor Lane Holder. Mysterious, smoking hot man that jogs every night at midnight. Lane slowly breaks down Stella’s defenses and a beautiful relationship begins. The sub-characters in this story were amazing and hilarious. Stella’s real estate agent turned best friend is outrageously hilarious and I am praying that she gets her own story soon. She is on of those characters that you want to know more about. Stella and Lane have amazing chemistry, but when Stella finds out that Lane has been lying to her, all games are off. She has been betrayed before by her ex-husband, but this hurts way worse. Will she be able to forgive him? And will she even want to take him back? This was an imaginative, fun romantic read. The story pulls you in and you become invested in small town Grace and the characters that live there. Looking forward to more books in this series. Recommend highly if you are looking for a boy next door romance with lots of laughs.
I had the privilege of reading this at an earlier stage in it's creation and even though it's been over a month since I read the book, I can still recall how funny this book is. It's a romantic comedy, a first for Season Vining. While her books have had some levity in them, I'd say her writing while amazing is on the heavier side. Heavy as in feelings and emotions, while also being entertaining and steamy hot.
Changing Lanes to me is as much a romantic comedy as it is women's fiction. It has themes such as re-discovery, and becoming confident in yourself and what you'd like out of live, but has just enough to where the lightness and seriousness of the content matter is balanced. Hats off to Season for trying something new and for doing it well!
Changing Lanes (Welcome to Grace, #1) by Season Vining is a delightful romance novel. I have to admit this is not my favorite genre, but if more romance books were like this one I would convert. The story is equal parts sweet and steamy. In addition to following Stella's sexual re-awakening, we also watch her find a new tribe of friends and community. Her journey of self-discovery and self-reliance was wonderful to follow. I'm so happy to see that is the first in a series; I not ready to say good-bye to Stella, Marley, Kennedy, Reagan, and (of course) Lane just yet.
4.5 Stars!!! If you want a sweet book with a hunky man that is dang near perfect and an adorable dog, then this is the book for you. After her divorce, Stella moves to a new town in a new state and finds the love every woman dreams about. Her unique friend Marley makes up a very colorful portion of this book and I can’t help but hope she gets a book later in the series. Along with Reagan and Kennedy. Lane is the loyal, old soul of man muscle that gave off Clark Kent/Superman vibes all the way down to my lady bits. Loved this book!! Looking forward to more!!!!
Season killed it with her first rom com book! I absolutely loved her main character Stella and how real she was. I loved the banter between her and her friends, felt her pain while going through her struggles and wanted her to explore more with her neighbor Lane. This was a quick, fun read that was just what I needed while home bound during this Coronavirus crisis. Thanks so much to Season for providing me the perfect distraction that I needed. Looking forward to more in this series!
Changing Lanes is Book 1 in the Welcome to Grace series. Each book will be set in the fictional small town of Grace in upstate New York. Each will follow a different couple's story there. And each title will feature the love interest's name.
Fun Facts: 1. The corgi in the story, Chap, is based off of a previous corgi of mine. Still miss and love him. 2. I've only been to upstate New York twice. It was beautiful, but too cold for this Southerner. 3. There is a lot of me in Stella, which feels a bit liberating and a bit terrifying.
I read this as an ARC and really enjoyed it. I felt like the characters were totally relatable. Heck, I even live in a small town similar to that. I kept picturing where I live as her setting, which made it more fun. Quirky, fun girls and sexy, intelligent boys who are well written are fun to read about.
Won this ARC in a giveaway with no expectation of a review, but it totally deserves one.
Loved this book. The title is so appropriate, not just for the men named “Lane” in Stella’s life, but for the many changes she is making after completely rebooting her life.
I loved all the antics that Stella got into and how easy it was for her to laugh at herself, and I laughed so many times, too! The friendship that grows between Stella and Marley is one of my favorite parts. But I’d be lying if I didn’t say I want to read about Chance and Reagan next!!
Lane (the new one) is about as good as boyfriends get — smart, thoughtful, kind, handsome and smokin’ in the sack. Loved how he helped Stella gain confidence in herself and was such a cheerleader for her talents.
Great romcom with little angst and a terrific ending for two characters you come to love and respect.
Was given a ARC from author for honest review: this book is a breath of fresh air. I absolutely loved the banner especially between Stella and her girlfriends. I won’t spoil. But what I thought was gonna happen as the drama of the story wasn’t it at all. Season did a wonderful job of the twist without giving much away. I look forward to seeing where this couple goes within the books of the other characters. So excited for this new series.
I loved this book so hard! It is laugh out loud funny! When your reading and you don't even realize it had you laughing until your husband asks what was so funny. Season Vining hit it out of the ball park with this one! The characters are so bright and funny. Its like you see them come alive in front of your eyes. Stella had a bad deal in her marriage. Deciding to start over, in a new town away from all she knows she makes a different kind of impression on the neighbor. So wonder what Lane the neighbor thought? Get your copy to see!
This book was such a fun read! I loved Stella & her friends! The author did an excellent job bringing her characters to life & making me laugh & cry with them! I can’t wait to read more in this series! Highly recommend!
Started out cute, but then it was just toooooo much. If you consume romance, it’s okay; not bad, but I am strangely picky about romance and I need a little more substance to character other than ‘hot’. I pushed through it for book club. 🙈
Changing Lanes, is funny, sweet and hot. Stella is such an inspiration, and a relatable character, and Lane is just absolutely swoon worthy. I'm thrilled Changing Lanes is going to be a series, theses characters are absolutely amazing and I wasn't read to say goodbye. I enjoyed this story so much I've read it twice.
This book is such an fun read! I found myself going on an emotional rollercoaster with Stella. This book had me laughing and crying, I haven't read a book that pulled my emotions out like this one did, in a long time. If you are looking for a feel good book, I recommend this book highly.
Loved every part of this hilarious rom com!!! From the very first “flash” to the perfect epilogue, this book put an everlasting grin on my face! Just perfection season!!!! I can’t wait to read more from the series!
I got a chance to read Changing Lanes by Season Vining. Let me say that this was different from her previous works. Definitely a lighter read, more of a fun read. This has all the makings for a cute little rom-com.
We have Stella needing a change after her divorce. She decides to uproot herself and move north. She meets her handsome neighbor who works a bunch of odd hours. She has a hard time trusting, because her husband was a jerk and left her pretty damage. However, Lane is a pretty decent guy, and totally has the hots for his neighbor.
Overall, Changing Lanes was a cute read with some steam. I liked how Stella was rediscovering herself, and willing to let Lane into her life. Lane does have a deep dark secret, but I don't think it was such a big deal. I felt that Stella blew it out proportion even her sister thought she was overreacting. It was a cute read, and I'm interested on what happens to Stella's new friends. It's a pretty good beginning to a new series. I also like the name, because it fits with the story.
This is such a cute story with an amazing twist! Stella arrives in Grace a small town in upper state New York after divorcing her cheating husband, it also happens to be the home town of her favorite author. Also meeting her sexy neighbor and making friends, finding out who she can become in this new life. Lane her neighbor teaches her so much but he holds a secret that might just break her. This is the first time I’ve read this author but definitely won’t be the last, loved the story and writing from the first to the last page.
Starting over when you don't know who you are anymore is scary. But Stella rocks it with some comedic mishaps along the way while Lane provides all the swoon. This book is a departure from Season's norm but in such a good way!
*I was given an ARC of this title in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoyed the story of Stella and Lane. This was a light hearted story of starting over in a new town and meeting the very cute neighbor. She chose to move to the town called Grace because her favorite romance author lives there. But soon she finds out that her favorite author prefers to remain mysterious. This has you guessing throughout the story is it the bookstore owner, Lane - her neighbor and possible love interest or is it Lane’s Granny who also lives in town. Stella also meets Marley who we all need a friend like her. There’s never a dull moment when she’s around and her friends are just as hilarious. Their antics bring a lot of humor to this story. Stella finds her new little town welcoming and also hanging out with Lane is a bonus too. Let’s not forget Lanes sweet little Corgi named Chap. This is a great book from Season on how Stella gets her groove back! Great characters and a fun, romantic story with a little angst. Great read - 5 Stars!
Lane and Stella have chemistry that jumps off the pages. The supporting cast of characters is very solid! Enjoyed Season Coming book and am looking forward to more in this series!
