The Godhunter #3

Oathbreaker

Rate this book
Can you trust a god they call Oathbreaker?

Vervain Lavine needs a little time to figure things out. Things like how to control the multiple beasts and magics inside her. Or how to lead a Pride of werelions who act more like a bunch of frat boys than grown men. She needs to work out her relationship with Trevor, the werewolf Prince bonded to her, and figure out if his grandfather, Loki, is serious in his repentance or is just up to more of his tricks.

Demeter's still on the run after her attempt on Trevor's life and it'd be great if Vervain could figure out where she's hiding before the goddess tries to kill her too. The Godhunter would also like to know why a bunch of vampires keep following her around. What's all that about?

Then there's Odin, leader of a faction of gods opposing Vervain in the God War. He needs the Godhunter's help and he's willing to pay for it, but can Vervain trust her enemy, a god who holds the title of Oathbreaker? Odin has helped her in the past and she owes him, but the way Vervain feels around him is a complication she just doesn't need... and one more thing for her to figure out.

Yeah, the Godhunter could really use some time to think things through, but it doesn't look as if she's going to get it.

The Godhunter Series is a slow-building reverse harem paranormal romance.

I read ahead & saw the series is 20 books long involves another rape a pregnancy & twin babies oh & a polyamorous marriage which is the only thing in this sentence i don't have a pet-peeve with. Calling it quits now. No rating.

I may have to take a break from this series. The frustration is real! If one more new person comes in and lays a claim on V imma scream. For realz it’s getting ridiculous. And Blue you dirty bastard, I get that V didn’t trust Blue and that hurt his feelings but come on. I can’t deal with V’s indecisiveness anymore one minute she’s going on and on about trusting her instincts the next minute she’s a giant pile of hotmess and can’t get her crap together anymore. Really this could have all been all fine and dandy if somewhere someone would think ‘oh hey you know what V is now kinda the goddess of love and lust so maybe she should be able to spread the love around without all this crazy jealousy,’ but no. Even my beloved Trever is getting on my nerves with his controlling and jealous nature that has popped up since they have been together. Not that he doesn’t have reason cause V is hot after almost every handsome man that walks into the story, and of course they are hot after her too. I just can’t see this story ever working this mess out.

I honestly think this will be the last book for me. I can see why people are comparing this series to Anita Blake. And for many that is not a compliment. I stuck with that series far longer than i should have and dont want to make the same mistake here. I love the world building and the characters but the choices the main character is baffling. (Her devotion to Trevor makes no sense to me.) Also I don't understand why so many gorgeous godly men are all attracted to the MC and that her immaturity so adorable. I've read the synopsis of future books and I just cant do it. And that makes me sad bc I was so excited to find a series I thought I could poor myself into.

I'm Over It

I gave it a shot, I really did, but I just can't take any more of this series. The story is just too...pat. Things fall too conveniently into place, without the work required for the characters to actually progress. The editing is still shoddy, one second the dialogue is a bad rip off of an "epic battle preparation" speech and the next it's like a 12 year old wrote something that they think is mature. My eyes actually hurt from rolling them at this book, so I'm throwing in the towel.

MAJOR SPOILERS THROUGHOUT:
I loved this book! It has definitely been my favorite installment in the series so far. It was fast paced, filled with action, plenty of drama, and there is was an abundance of character development that I just ate up. Also, there were some new gods and goddesses added to the mix that I was surprised to see.
I love Vervain. It is so fun to be in her head. I love her attitude and how she is always finding something snarky to say. Finding out that she was Sabine wasn't completely shocking to me, I just don't think I realized the full consequences of that. I normally don't like reincarnation plot lines, but Amy Sumida did it in a way that made the story enjoyable and gave Vervain more depth.
Trevor... While there is nothing wrong with his character, I am having a hard time getting behind his and Vervain's relationship. When they originally bonded, I did not have a major problem with it but as the series goes on, I get more and more upset about how the bond was formed. I don't believe that Trevor gave Vervain a choice and I don't think they would have gotten together under any other circumstances. Because of that, I am struggling to emotionally get behind their relationship.
At this point, I really like Odin and Vervain as a couple. I shipped them before I found out that Vervain used to be Sabine and now, I only like them together more. It broke my heart to listen to Odin's story and I feel really bad for him. Who could blame him for wanting the love of his life back? I sure can't. I really hope that Vervain comes to her senses and that she gets with Odin because I feel like Trevor is holding her back.
Overall, I really enjoyed this installment in the Godhunter series even though there were some scenes that pulled at my heart strings. If this series continues on the same path it has been on, I can easily see this becoming a favorite series. I will definitely be continuing the series with the nest book, Marked by Death .

Very slow burn RH. Don't expect the RH to start until you have read a few books. This is a plot driven series with 30 books and spinoff series.

It's awesome and I kinda love it so much I read the first 7 books back to back. Memorable characters with lots of action and a kickass FMC.

Series is still going strong

I am not sure that I love the Sabine angle in this book. Vervain is already quite the special cupcake and sometimes it can be a bit much. However, I still really enjoyed the book and will continue reading the series. Something about these characters and their world keep sucking me in.

This book was great but I gotta say, I CANT WAIT FOR THE ANUBIS DRAMA ALL OVER AGAIN! Ok fine Odin being back was great but the good part hasn’t come yet. Also I gotta say (again yes), Sumida is great at giving out titles, they fit perfectly hahaha. I need some more action apart from pitiful little Thor and Odin.

Amy Sumida has such an imagination. I can't stress how great the concept of these books is. The idea of every God thought up by mankind actually existing because of human beliefs provides such a wealth of storytelling. To uphold the human beliefs or myths and then to exist outside of them as real individuals interacting in the God and human world has endless possibilities for entertainment. The characters are fascinating, relatable, clever, kind, cruel, and witty.

Just when I believe that Vervain's life couldn't become more complicated, I am proven wrong. Now she has goddess's powers, mate bonds, and a former life with a husband and children to add to her character. I love the addition of the sons to her personality. She becomes more complex by the moment. I love how she can go from snarky to thoughtful depending on the need of the moment. She's the star of these books despite the beautiful, powerful Gods.

Okay then, it feels like the series is finding its footing and its not gonna be a bucket list of relationships with the guys. Firstly yay for the summary part at the beginning, I can’t remember when I read the previous one. I like it when you can pick up a book and get straight into it. I don’t actually find V that special, its more the characters around her. A bit too many speeches, info dumps etc. I pretty much was thinking she best not hurt Trevor after the screw up with Thor. Pretty much an Odin/Trevor love triangle with a bi-polar Thor in this one. At this point its categorizing everyone she meets into friends, family, love or kill. Favourite character was Loki. I’m gonna challenge myself to see how far I can get through the series.

At first I thought: Wow, this book is so much better than the last, it's just flying by! Then I realized that this book is significantly shorter than the last.
That said, I really liked this book. I was afraid this series was going to see Vervaine adding new powers and new men every book, but in this book it was tempered, but the book itself was still eventful.

The things I disliked in book 2 were mostly absent here, and we got to see more of Odin, though unfortunately not much of Blue.
All in all, I really liked this one - and I look forward to reading the next.

I had some issues with this one, but that could truthfully be attributed to the health issues occurring whilst reading. It took me almost two weeks to read a book I’d normally finish in one to two days. Ah well. At least the er visits were fun.

So. I felt like this was a bit of a filler book, if that makes any sense. A lot of nothing was occurring. Not much progress in the overall series plot or character development. But there’s always the next book. This was, after all, just the third book in the series. To the next!

Somewhat irritating.

Vervain is regaining her memories of her past life as Sabine, the witch wife to Odin and mother of his sons. Meanwhile, Demeter wants to harm Vervain in any way that she can, directly or, preferably, indirectly. Odin finds his traitor and we end up in a full out god war. This book didn’t grab my attention as the previous two did and the series seems to be heading in a dark direction. I found myself quite irritated at times. It was still well written but didn’t justify more than three stars.

Holy canoli. Is EVERYONE in the god realm hot? Scratch that, because Vervain's human friends are hot too. Is every male in this universe attractive?

There seems to be a lack of clear time passage from one chapter to the next, so I had no idea it'd been over a year since Thor and Vervain got involved.

I struggled a little bit with the Odin thing. Just...the weirdness of it. Also, the Trevor in wolf-man shape was a visual I'd like to get out of my head.

Minor grammatical issues, but nothing worth complaining about.

Enjoying the series

The one minor drawback is that the author spends a lot of time reviewing things from previous books, as a reader who reads all the books together and will re-read a series when a new book is available, I find this very annoying. I already read about it I don't need to have a full review. Like I said it's minor but annoying.

Another excellent addition to the Godhunter series. I loved the complexity of this story with it's mix of myth and unique worldbuilding. The Odin tie-in was unexpected and a welcome twist to the plot. Sumida is very clever with her story-building and layering prior books to keep the tension and action moving.

Entertaining

I am still not sold on the series. The stories individually are entertaining and keep me reading. It is supposed to be a slow burn reverse harem but so far it is several unrequited loves and broken hearts.
