This novel is one of those that completely screw you over. I loved how amazingly tough the FL was. She wasn't like any wishy-washy females out there. She hardened her heart and went through with it. I love her for that. I love the author for writing a novel against the usual tropes and giving all the crazy fans a good wake up call. Rape is rape, torture is torture. You cannot expect He Yan to just fall in love with him. Welcome to reality all you delusional fans. This is how life is really. Not that I liked the husband that much either but I am glad He Yan didn't do a 180. Yes she did grow fond of him but she remembered her past. I am glad of that and that all the abuse was not romanticized.
Sadly a part of me, just like He Yan felt bad for Fu Shen Xing at certain points but he had done too much wrong that it wasn't easy to forget it. Ultimately the story came to a full circle. As the name suggest 'Who was the prey'? It started with He Yan but ended with Fu Shen Xing. Being the ultimate prey. Caught because of his own undoing. Caught in the biggest trap of all time. A prey caught in the game of love. Fully knowing that the woman he loves, would never love him back. Even until the end, she did not. I believe a part of his final decision was He Yan's choice not to love, he couldn't even continue wanting to live.
Unlike many I am glad she kept the baby. It wasn't her fault. I hope she'll never know the truth, that Yuanze will continue to love her as his own. The letter at the end did bring tears to my eyes. In the end he was the prey in his own game.
