A former assistant of Arina Tanemura, Yui Kikuta made her debut in Hana to Yume magazine in 2002 with "In the Moonlight Teresa" in the June 1 issue of "The Hana to Yume" under the pen-name KyaKya Asano. Kimiyo Asano is Yui Kikuta's real name.
She was part of the "Strawberry Lunch" doujinshi circle along with Ai Minase, under her former pen-name, Kyakya Asano.
Re-debuted in Comic ZERO-SUM under the Name, Yui Kikuta, which she continues to use.
Chapters 1~5 Your typical 'princess' and prince charming. He seduced her with a big library, and that was almost enough to seduce me. Unfortunately, it's nothing special, rather very generic.
The angst this manga has it's just 'wow'. I'm still mad at everyone but I can see this becoming an amazing story. Really, I need more angst! Eli cannot forgive everyone just like that!
This wasn't very good. It is very generic and annoying. All of the problems in this volume could have been fixed if the main character opened her mouth and talked.
I'm also like WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO READ THIS?!!
This has been on my TBR for YEARS and I finally started to read it simply because there was an upcoming Top 5 Wednesday prompt and I was considering featuring this book, but GAH!
I LOVED IT SO MUCH!
I would quickly say there is nothing "ground-breaking" or "new under the sun" with this story, but I deeply love it for what it is! There is drama that unfolds that had me gasping, to deep anger, to sadness, and then shock, all within at least half the volume! LOL!
Truly, I LOVED Eli and her family because seeing a family of book nerds was absolutely the best part of this volume! It's fun seeing their bookish love unfold and how it plays a role in Eli's everyday life, and even her engagement! It was also cool seeing how her love of books has changed the lives of those around her even though it wouldn't seem like it necessarily would.
I really liked Chris! Though I won't deny that I got SUPER upset with him when it came to a new character on the scene about halfway. I felt frustrated because I'm like how blind are you to not catch up on what this person is doing?! However, the ending had such an amazing payoff, and was SO relieved because he's such a gentleman! Plus, him realizing gifting books is the best gift to give Eli had me sold! LOL! I also liked how he sort of "bribed" her into marrying him, even if that sounds wrong to say. LOL! It's just how many princes would be like, "If you marry me, I'll let you have all the interrupted reading time you want. Plus as my fiancee, you can check out the royal archives as much as you want!" I AM SOLD PRINCE CHRIS!! LOL!
I also like the variety of characters and how each one has different quirks. When things started unfolding where they treated Eli differently, I definitely caught myself getting upset because they were SO kind to her in the beginning. This led of course to me wondering what in the world is going on and if they are going to continually treat her like that (because she deserves to be treated SO much better!!). However, that ending made everything come to light and honestly was SO relieved. I think it's been a while since I was SO upset with characters only for it to lead to HUGE relief that everyone hasn't changed.
The art of course is what first led me to want to read this story and it is breathtaking! I loved how the artist really brought out Eli's emotional expressions, especially considering that the artist said it was a lot harder to gauge what Eli was thinking/feeling in the light novel.
Overall, I'm head over heels for this first volume! I hope it continues to go on the up and up because I will be heartbroken if it doesn't! LOL!
I definitely would recommend it if you're looking for a "simple," down-to-earth story with a girl who loves to read and a prince who seems to love said girl, but who doesn't quite realize it (at least yet hopefully!). Very great first volume!
3.5 rounded up because I really like the art. This is a very well-done adaptation that manages to retain the feel of the original novels while making small changes to ensure that it functions as a manga.
Such a cute and fluffy manga about a lady who only cares about books and a prince who wants nothing but her. can't wait to see her grow and develop as she navigates the palace and gets out of her comfort zone.
I loved this story so much. It's great how the characters develop in not so long amount of time, we could say it's quick, but it doesn't feel forcible. I love Eli so much, she is cute, sweet, inocent and such a bookworm in a literal way, but I love her because of that. And the love that she has for books is what makes her be who she is and what gives her value. I sobbed so much during chapter 2 and 3, I felt her pain so much. I just love this manga is so romantic and cute. Great shoujo.
I am obsessed. I loved it so much. I got invested way faster than I expected to. Eli is such a fun main character and honestly so relatable as a reader. I need more asap!!
Love the art style. Super cute. Kinda funny. Now that she knows she likes the prince and he isn't trying to get rid of her, I'm interested in where this story will go.
A bit of a twist on the standard villainess plots - not executed the smoothest way, but it wasn’t bad. As a book lover myself, I appreciate the underlying message that reading books excessively can actually be quite useful.
