Dragons of the Bayou #6

Fire Breathing Ovide

Rate this book
Ovide lost his mate years ago. Now, he’s just biding time until his own demise which, thankfully, will come soon. The eclipse leading him to a slow descent into sweet oblivion is just around the corner.

Margo has never found a man who was worth the risk of heartbreak. No problem, because her caustic demeanor and sharp tongue scare away even the most persistent suitors.

When an accidentally-on-purpose claiming mark links them for all of eternity, both will have to rethink their plans for the future. But with the protective walls these two have constructed around their hearts, can they even expect to have a future together?

This is the sixth book in Candace Ayers' Dragons of the Bayou series, a dragon shifter romance series set in the swamplands of the deep south.

This is a hot and spicy, super steamy paranormal dragon shifter fantasy romance with an HEA and no cliffhangers. Fans of Zoe Chant, Terry Bolryder, Harmony Raines and Ruby Dixon may like this dragon shapeshifter series.

"If I didn't think it would swell your head up to the size of a small state, I would tell you that I love you."
"If I didn't think you'd threaten to kill me over it, I would tell you that I love you, too."

Two broken souls meet, but their HEA is not easy.. 5 stars!!

Another fantastic read for this year, OVIDE is hands down my favorite of the Dragons series! Ovide has been a mysterious character throughout the series so far until we discovered that he had a mate in the old world and has no plans to find a mate here on earth, which will mean his demise in a few short weeks. Then he meets Margo at Remy and Lennox's bachelor/bachelorette parties, and he meets his fate.

Both Ovide and Margo were such broken characters for very different reasons, and neither set out wanting to find their fated mate. But fate does not make mistakes, and I absolutely loved witnessing Ovide and Margo determine this for themselves. Another bittersweet ending to a great shifter series from Candace Ayers; I cannot wait to start Rancher Bears next ♡

Past or future

Ovide's story teaches us about grief and moving on after a loss. Margo was strong enough to know who and what she wanted, no holds barred.

loved this series!

Loved this series about Dragon shifters from another dimension finding their mates and HEA on earth! Loved Margo and Ovide’s story! She’s gotta be THE fieriest, feistiest heroine I’ve ever read. Poor sad broken and brooding Ovide has met his match. When Ovide’s dragon recognizes Margo as his mate Ovide is so conflicted and confused. Even before they left their home planet he had a mate, but she died when they were young and he has been mourning her for centuries. In the heat of the moment Ovide claims and marks Margo, sealing their mate bond, then is consumed by shame and guilt and abandons Margo to return to his grief over his former mate. But what he fails to realize is that now that they are bonded Margo feels his rejection and absence like a physical pain. When she discovers Via his dragon brothers and their mates that she will feel this torturous pain for the rest of her (now incredibly elongated) life she is livid and storms off to confront him. When Ovide finds her nearly dead in the woods soon after, he realizes what a fool he has been rejecting his new mate and doubles down trying to prove to her he is worthy of her and will never let her down again- he’s just got his work cut out for him winning his way back into Margo’s good graces!! Great series! Love the humor and the spiciness!

The sixth and final story of the dragons of the bayou. Margo has been around in all of the books, a feisty bar owner, who can stand on her own. The problem is she’s hitting the age where she definitely needs to lose her virginity. She already knows about the shifters, her best friend is married to one. She is throwing a party for her and her future husband, dragon shifter. Ovide is one of the dragon shifters who is different from the others. The secret he has held for so long that he had a mate when he was younger, and she died before they left their world. His attraction to Margot is extreme, but he fights it, even though they have a one night stand, and he marks her as a mate. His dragon knows who she is, now, Ovide hast to catch up. After their one night stand, Margo decides to go to his house and face him, instead, she gets attacked by a wolf. Ovide saves her, but it is going to be a recovery that she will have to depend on him. I love watching them finally come together. They are the most feisty of all the couples, and it is fun to watch the banter between them. Really good series. I highly recommend it.

Ovide is a centuries old dragon older than the others by a couple hundred years he is a Gold dragon in his dragon form and although he knows the eclipse is coming which will mean his end by insanity and being put down by his friends he doesn't care why? because Ovide has a secret that none of the others know He agrees to go to the mixed party for his friend and brother shifter Remy and Remy's mate Lennox but he really just wants to be alone....The party is happening at Lenni's friend Margot's bar "The Gator Pit" and Ovide feels a rush of something for the feisty red haired green eyed small woman as soon as he meets her....Margot just wants to find someone to "bump uglies" with and Ovide can't handle his anger at this thought because he wants that person to be him!!! read along as Ovide and Margot battle it out to see what will happen as things between the fiery red haired fire cracker and the brooding gold dragon heat up cool off and heat up again in this fun fast read last book in the DRAGONS of the Bayou series by Candace Ayers

This one had a strong emotional core, and I really enjoyed the dynamic between Ovide and Margo. That push-pull of denial and certainty—of one partner clinging to the past and the other refusing to give up—made the tension feel real and resonant. I couldn’t help but think of Kiss of Snow while reading it. The stories are different, but that central theme of “you’re wrong—we are fated” was definitely present.

Ovide’s belief that he already had his one and only chance at love brought a bittersweet weight to the romance, while Margo’s determination brought fire and vulnerability in equal measure. I appreciated that their bond wasn’t just about chemistry—it was about breaking down deeply held beliefs and rebuilding trust from the ground up.

Even though the plot echoes other fated-mate stories, the emotional execution here felt fresh. It’s a well-done take on an archetype I love—where stubborn hearts finally give in, not because they’re forced to, but because the connection becomes undeniable.

Looks like this is the end of the series. Each book was a great addition. What I like most is no additional unwanted drama. Just two people falling for each other.
Ovide had his chance with a mate. Now he gets his second chance romance.
Margo is a strong independent woman. She is hosting her best friends party when walks in the man, well dragon, of her life. But for some reason, he doesn't want her.

This was a very heartbreaking story.

You wanted Ovide to find his happily ever after but he was fighting it so much. I understood why he felt that it wasn't for him but yet there was a perfect woman standing right in front of him.

I loved watching Margo grab onto what she wanted and was going to do it on her own terms. I also liked it when her original one-time thing ended up surprising both of them.

Lord have mercy

Ovides past is tragic. The one he thought was his true mate died long ago so he thought he'd never find a mate and would die after the eclipse...but walking into his fellow dragons bachlor/Bachelorette party he sees Margo...and his dragon insists that she's his mate...but he doesn't understand how and that fear could cost him her life

Great Job With Ovide

Fire Breathing Ovide, book 6 and final book of Candace Ayers Dragons of the Bayou series, is a wonderful. Ovide was always going to need a special woman to be his mate and Margo is prefect. It's a good thing she's so stubborn. Their story will bring everyone together.

Good

I was reluctant to read this one. Losing a mate, mourning over her for years. I'm glad I did. Ovide isn't as thick-headed as he was first shown to be.

Bad butt kicker

Only an owner of a bar can be a butt kicked if SHE has platinum balls to with stand the snide thoughts or whims of the male mind set.
