It's a copy of a book given to certain people who are permitted to read it before its actual publication date. It might lack a final proofread or its final cover design although all the content is typically in place. Typically these individuals are book reviewers and media reviewers. They can read the book before its publication date so their reviews can coincide with the book's debut.

However in this instance, it appears that author Patrick Tibbits rated all of Mary Robinette Kowal's books with 1-star along with about 100 other books and Max reciprocated with a 5-star rating on many of those including book #4 in Kowal's series which isn't due out until 2022 and on which it is unlikely that an ARC even exists yet. This book straight up murdered me.

I love that we get to read about what happened in parallel to the events of the second book. I was a bit worried about me missing Elma who I LOVE, but Nicole and the rest of the crew are just as great.

Also:
- the women casually talking about sex and freaking men the fuck out will never not be hilarious
- will never tire of happily married couples
- punches right in the feels repeatedly = instant favorite
- investigations galore IN SPACE = right up my alley

Loved this. I had no idea that I was missing Nicole and all the residents of the moon and their stories. I had been focused on Elma and her crew on their journey to Mars. But here, Nicole goes back to the moon, missing her politician husband, and has to figure out, which moon resident is attempting to sabotage the mission. Nicole is so smart and disciplined but she isnt without her own issues. And there were hilarious moments (women talking about sex while the men cringe) as well as the ...more

Disclaimer: I was one of the beta readers.

For obvious reasons, I can't do a full review. However, I can mention a few things:

* I had no idea how much I needed this story.
* I was a bit unsure about not having Elma as the main character (I love Elma). Now Elma isn't my only love.
* It's an awesome novel and I totally recommend it to any Lady Astronaut fan.
* I can't wait to listen to the audio book.
