Mama's love is brighter than the sun, even on the rainiest of days. In the tradition of Someday, this celebration of a mother-daughter relationship is perfect for sharing with little ones!

On a rainy day when the house smells like cinnamon and Papa and Luca are still asleep, when the clouds are wearing shadows and the wind paints the window with beads of water, I want to be

There is gentle charm and delight in this book narrated by a little girl enjoying and observing the ordinary details of spending the day with her mama. I love the sweet interplay of affection, orderliness, and spontaneity conveyed between the words and illustrations.

Each of Cozbi A. Cabrera's illustrations are stand-alone beauties, soaked with color and detail as well as abstraction. Some show the differences between the sizes and colors of their toothbrushes, drinking cups, rain boots, and bre

My favorite birthday gift this year was a copy of Me & Mama, from my own mama who - just like this story's sweet narrator - is the center of my universe. This one is a treasure. ...more

Mama greets the little girl who narrates this story when she comes down early in the morning. The others are still sleeping on the rainy morning. They decide to head outside into the rain together. First they must get ready with drinks from their cups, teeth brushing, showers and hair combing. Then it’s time for breakfast and barrettes in their hair. They head out into the rainy morning with boots, umbrellas and raincoats. Max, the dog, doesn’t need any of those things. Together they sing and sp ...more
Oh, how this book pulled at my heart! It is an adorable story, told from the little girl’s perspective, about spending a rainy day with her Mama. She shares about all the similarities she has with her Mama who she aspires to, and how they are still different at the same time. For example, the differences in their toothbrush sizes and the cups they drink from. The descriptions are lovely, and they make you feel that you are there watching this special bond between mother and daughter bloom from t ...more

This features a young character, first person narrator, who "want(s) to be everywhere Mama is". The illustrations are lush and colorful, nuanced and detailed. That visual story provides a rich landscape for text that conveys depth of detail in simple narration. Examples:
"Mama's cup goes clink, clink, clink...

My cup goes duh, duh, duh...

Sometimes things break, Mama says."

From brushing teeth to combing hair, from rainy day walks to nap time, this portrays a delightful day as the background tapestr

A charming story of a girl and her mother. I love how the front and back covers are them playing peek-a-boo with the reader. There are certain universal truths at work here - as a mom myself, I adored seeing a cup just like my daughter’s in the illustration and then the moment when the daughter brushes her mother’s hair is a moment that also happens so much in our house. The story at the end felt rushed - so much is centered around going out in the rain with her mother and then she reflects on t ...more

Cabrera's ode to the special relationship between mothers and daughters depicts beautiful vignettes throughout a young child's day. Charming illustrations accompany. A folded and gathered (F&G) preliminary proof (art and text to be revised) was reviewed. Expected publication date is August 25, 2020. ...more

This book was really great. The illustrator did a fantastic job, giving each image so much movement and detail. I wasn't a big fan of the writing, but the author did include some "grow words" to help beef up a child's vocabulary. Overall, I would recommend this to parents and encourage them to read this with their littles.

I love the illustrations on this book! This is a story of black joy and a mother and daughter's sweet relationship. The writing style is a bit disjointed to me. There are a lot of repeating phrases where the daughter thinks something in her head, then says it again out loud. I kept searching for the rhythm or poetry, but didn't find it.

I love the celebration of simple joys. Some of the plot felt a little jumpy to me and I didn’t understand why they bothered to shower and comb their hair just to go play out in the rain. I also didn’t get the mention of people in boxes when they were out with the trees.
Still a charming book though.

3.5. The narrative in the last third is rushed and the change between daytime exploring outside in the rain and bedtime is abrupt. Otherwise, lovely. *I received a free e-ARC from Edelweiss+ in exchange for an honest review.*

A beautiful book capturing young childhood and the bond between a girl and her mother. Would make a great mentor text for young writers (small moments, sensory details). preK-2 is the sweet spot here, but 3-4 will appreciate, too.
A heartwarming tale of quiet moments shared between a mother and daughter, and the time spent together on a rainy morning while the rest of the family members sleep in. It's moments like this that makes memories that last a lifetime of the special unconditional love

Sweet story, beautiful illustrations. Just look at that cover!
A bit rushed, but BEAUTIFUL!! Look at their adorable faces! I miss taking pictures with my mom like this. I NEED the front and back covers as art prints to display somewhere.
Gorgeous. Lyrical. Day in the Life storytime?

Me & Mama by Cozbi A. Cabrera makes me long for red & yellow rubber boots, and a rainy day to wear them on.

This picture book is sweet & charming, and a must-add to our school library collections.

The illustrations are stunning, as is the bond between mother and child. I wanted a bit more from the text, but the artwork has abundant emotion to carry weaker areas of the writing.
I just adore this book. One of my favorites of 2020 so far.
