This is my first book I have read from this author and I can say I enjoyed it.

This is the first book in the series.

We have two main characters Hazel and Khali who live in different realms. Hazel lives in a modern realm (our realm if you want a idea to what her realm is like). Khali lives in a magical realm. Nina Walker expertly weaves a story rich in paranormal intrigue with enough drama to keep you rapidly turning the pages. This story depicting elemental dragons is entirely original, with Walker taking great care to spin a tale unlike others in the genre. I am only left wanting more, and am greatly anticipating the next release in what will become a suspenseful and exhilarating series.

Wow! I can't even believe that I finished the first book in this series so fast! I definitely lost some sleep trying to speed-read to find out what happens next. I was disappointed when I realized that I had come to the end of book one and would have to wait a few months till the next book. (Sigh)

The story is told from two POVs and if that bothers you, then this book is probably not for you. However, there is a purpose for these two POVs since there are two realms to explore. Nina Walker gives the reader a glimpse inside both the magical and non-magical realms by telling the story from Hazel's (non-magical realm) and Khali's (magical realm) POVs.

Hazel has lived her life blending into the background as much as possible but entering college has changed her anonymity. She also has quite the secret. She sees dead people. Her brief encounter with bad boy Dean only heightens her curiosity on what secrets he's hiding. Getting a job as psychic medium can only help her situation, right? She's tried her whole life to control her ability but has had no luck. What is she? Why is this happening to her? When multiple girls go missing in the small college town, Hazel sees their ghosts and doesn't know how to help them. What can she do? Will Dean be able to help her?

Khali is a princess because she was born with two different colored eyes which indicated she had all four elemental powers. She is destined to be the next queen to one of the four Dragon princes. She is also Dragon blessed - she can shift into a dragon. She is powerfully powerless to control her own destiny - or is she? Tragedy strikes and forces Khali to make a decision about her future. Does she have what it takes to forge her own path?

Super interesting concept and definitely need to read the next book now! I'll just be here waiting impatiently. Highly recommend!

This is my first book by Nina Walker, but it won't be my last. I always go in with an open mind, but any expectations I secretly harbored were surpassed, leaving me both exhilarated and impressed.

This is the first book I have read by this author Nina Walker and it will not be the last .
She does an excellent job drawing you into the story and once she has you good luck putting it down just warning don't have plans lol.
The main characters become instant friends and you find yourself pulling for them in the choices they make .

I was a little skeptical about reading this book because I’m not a huge fan of dragons or high fantasy, but I read this author’s color magic series so I thought I’d give this one a shot. I’m so glad I did! It blew me away! The dual worlds and multiple points of view added lots of layers that kept building and intertwining with plot twists that were anything but predictable.

I really loved this book. It was so intriguing, and it never dulled for a moment. The storyline was interesting and unique, and leaves you wanting more.
I felt a real connection to the Khali and Hazel, and just felt their ups and downs throughout the story. All characters felt like they had their place, and played their parts well.

2 worlds, one amazing book!

This book grabbed me from the beginning. I enjoyed it from start to finish and I am left wanting more! I really enjoyed the dual point of view and the juxtaposition of the human realm and the dragon realm. I was really into the book and right before chapter 7 I was dropping my jaw. It's so good. Amazeballs!

Fantasy is one of my favorite genres, I love all kinds of fantasy from high fantasy to urban fantasy as long as the fantasy I'm in. This means that I have read a lot of fantasy book but Crown of Dragons has moved into the top ten.

This is a ya story and the two points of view, are told from Hazel who is experiencing somethings in the (modern) human world and Khali who is a princess in a magical kingdom that is ruled by dragons. The stories are on a dual timeline with each girl doing th Amazeballs!

Hazel is just starting college, trying to live on her own for the first time and make friends. She is smart, pretty but not very sociable, she starts to find herself more in college. Hazel starts to open up to people, becomes more confident, and experiences new things. While Khail who is a rebel at heart does her duty of princess without too much complaint and cares greatly about those she loves and her kingdom. She is adventurous and daring in ways that Hazel is only starting to discover. I like both girls and I can't wait to find out how they are connected.

The world-building in this book is so good. The human world was easy just add a few magical touches but the supernatural world had so much magic and a creative backstory that just made me want to know more. I loved how not only were there dragons but the dragons had elemental powers. There were mentions of other kingdoms and other supernaturals and I hope that Nina dives more into more of that in the next book. The overall story was amazing and kept my rapt attention, this book was pretty addictive and I have more than a few questions that I want answers to.

Crown of Dragons was everything that I, as a fantasy reader could have wanted. Duel timelines and perspectives, alternate worlds, snobby royalty, magic, complex characters, great world-building, political intrigue, supernatural creatures, betrayal, an excellent plotline and so much more. The story drew me in and I didn't want to let go, I loved everything about this book, things are just getting started and I'm so excited to read the next book in the series, Kingdom of Spirts.

Another treasure

Loved this! I've read a bunch of paranormal books and I must say this one was a breath of fresh air. The dragons aren't possessive, arrogant jerks; the elves aren't regal snobs, and the humans aren't completely unaware and nonmagical. I'll admit the switching between Hazel and Khali so much initially annoyed me, but looking back, there's so much going on that the switches are necessary for us to keep track of what's going on with each character during the same time frame.

Wonderful!

I loved how this book was written. Shifting between two realms, one human the other magical, was so well done. I couldn’t put the book down! I had to keep reading the next chapter and the next because it always ended a chapter at a cliffhanger. Then, because it would alternate points of view, you couldn’t just read one more but at least two more in order to find out what happens which was never fully satisfying because it only lead to another cliffhanger. Hazel is a human medium who's hounded by ghosts. Khali is a cursed dragon princess. The Occultists are an evil religious sect that's intent on destroying worlds.

Dragons, mediums and more in this delightful story

While it took a little while for me to get into this book, by the end I really enjoyed the story and found myself caught up and waiting to read more. This book is well written and an excellent start to a new trilogy. The characters are well fleshed out so you catch a glimpse of who each of them is, even when their story isn’t told directly from their point of view. Hazel and Khali are delightful joint heroines connected in some way that we only Dragons, mediums and more in this delightful story

This book is well written and an excellent start to a new trilogy. The characters are well fleshed out so you catch a glimpse of who each of them is, even when their story isn’t told directly from their point of view. Hazel and Khali are delightful joint heroines connected in some way that we only catch a glimpse of at the end of the book. They are from two different realms. We learn their stories as told from each girls perspective in alternating chapters.
Khali is from the Drakenon realm and is gifted with all four Elemental magic and the considered dragon blessed and has the ability to shift into a dragon. She becomes a princess meant to marry one of the four brothers, Silas, Dean, Owen and Bram, the chosen one will become the next king because of this unique power to use all four elementals and being born with two different colored eyes, blue and brown. She struggles with this fate, feeling trapped at times forced to go along with the king and queens plans even when she doesn’t want to, forced to spend each day with a different brother until one is chosen. Bram is nice but possesses no elemental magic and spends his time in the library, they each suffer through their dates together. Dean the oldest is a fire elemental who was her first love, but is exiled for kissing her or taking the fall when she actually kissed him, this is forbidden until the next king is chosen and she is married to him. Owen water elemental, is her best friend, they sneak out of the castle to fly in dragon form which is also forbidden. Silas, Owen’s twin is the sky elemental. Silas is power hungry and will do anything to become the next king including murdering his brother in cold blood when he admits that while he never wanted to become king, he wants Khali so will try to be with her. The King and Queen know the truth of Owen’s death but insist that Khali keep it secret and marry Silas on her eighteenth birthday. This is announced at a dinner when her father finally returns from his travels for the crown and collapses. Khali determines to flee the palace and seek for a cure to the hex placed on her father that has him locked unresponsive after crossing the borders between lands as a spy for the king. Bram follows Khali and uses his knowledge gained for all that reading in the library to help her get into the faerie lands to search for ley lines to cross over to the human realm where he believes Dean has been exiled. Bram is captured by an Occultist who also hints that he placed a magical working on Khali at birth.
Hazel is from the human realm, just starting college and feels she is cursed because she can see the spirits of the dead. The story starts with her encounter after her Anthropology class with Dean who takes an immediate dislike to her, threatening her about staying out of his territory. She doesn’t have a clue what he is talking about and is shocked when he insists he knows what she is. She and Dean have a few encounters including when he comes into the shop she works at as a medium to get a reading. She sees a dragon spirit and has images of a beautiful woman in medieval clothing that is in trouble. Dean identifies her as Khali and Hazel finds herself feeling jealous even though she tries to resist the feelings she starts having for Dean. He becomes the champion numerous times and shares with her his secret that he is a dragon shifter as well. As the story progresses we have a bit of a mystery as part of the spirits she sees are those of young women, other college freshman and a highschool cheerleader, who have gone missing over the last two years, they have all been drown in a lake and everyone is concerned that the killer is still out there. Hazel struggles to get to the bottom of this and actually comes face to face with the killer but he isn’t what she expected, its a boy from school who she agreed to go on a date which who is possessed by something evil that is controlling him.
Hazel is saved when the spirit dragon first fights off the evil spirit so she can get away long enough to send out a text to the police. She is captured again and the evil spirit performs a ritual that makes him corporeal and can only be destroyed by what… you guessed it, dragon fire. Khali meets Hazel in person when she comes through the leylines into the lake where Hazel is struggling to survive and saves her life with the help of Dean. We end this book finding out these two share a birthday and possibly so much more. Will these two heroines be able to fight the evil Occultists and save all the realms? I hope in the trilogy we will find out. I am excited to read more.

Crown of Dragons was a fun book to read. It follows Hazel, a girl in the human realm, just starting college as well as Khali, a princess in another realm who is awaiting her 18th birthday when she must marry one of the princes. Both girls possess magic - Hazel is a medium who can see and communicate with dead spirits, and Khali is Dragon Blessed, meaning that she is able to shift into a dragon form and she possesses the powers of all four elements, which makes her the realm's princess.

I enjoyed the two different storylines as well as the ways in which they crossed and came together at the end. I think that I surprisingly ended up enjoying Hazel's storyline more, even though I was drawn more to Khali at the beginning as I tend to gravitate more to high fantasy. I enjoyed the supernatural that was sprinkled in throughout the stereotypical freshman girl angst of boys, classes, and parties. It made for a fun read with some fantastic lines that were super relatable. I wasn't immediately sold on her crush, but that's just personal preference. I thought that Khali's story was interesting, but I had a hard time getting a grip on her personality because there was a lot more happening, so there wasn't as much time devoted to building that aspect up as there was for Hazel, but I enjoyed seeing the different adventures that she went on.

Overall, I think that the premise is super interesting. I love the concept of the Dragon Blessed, that only certain of the Drakenon people are able to shift into dragons, and I like the magic system, making use of the elements. The idea of the "Bleeding Realms" is fascinating, and while there wasn't a ton on that in this book, I feel like it sets the story up well to be explored in the following books.

I think that the main reason that this wasn't a four-star read for me was the pacing. I felt like Hazel's story moved along at an appropriate pace and the amount that occurred for her seemed to be just right. However, I feel like there was just a lot packed into Khali's chapters, to the point that it was too much. I personally wanted to see a lot of the events, places, and characters explored more deeply, but in order to fit it all in, a lot of it was glossed over, and in some places devolved into telling rather than showing in these chapters.

It was an interesting premise and a fun read. I think that the convergence of the storylines at the end sets it up for an interesting second installment in the series. ...more
