Aaron Corbet is an eighteen-year-old Nephilim and the one who will reunite the fallen angels with Heaven. But right now Aaron isn't interested in saving anybody other than himself, his magically powered dog, and his younger, autistic foster brother, Steven, from Verchiel, the cruel leader of the Powers. Verchiel is bent on destroying Aaron, and with him all hope of angelic reconciliation.
With the help of a fallen angel, Aaron manages to arrive in the angelic refuge known as Aerie. Though he hopes to catch his breath before continuing the Good Fight, Aaron learns that the other residents of Aerie are concerned about his presence and his role in their future. But how can he win their trust when he has accidentally led the Powers straight to the sanctuary of the Fallen?
Thomas E. Sniegoski, often credited as Tom Sniegoski is the author of more than two dozen novels for adults, teens, and children. His teen fantasy YA series Fallen was adapted into a trilogy of monstrously successful TV movies by ABC Family Channel. His other books for teens include Sleeper Code, Sleeper Agenda, and Force Majeure, as well as the upcoming series The Brimstone Network. The author's first adult novel, A Kiss Before the Apocalypse, hit the shelves in 2008, with its sequel, Dancing on the Head of a Pin to be released in 2009.
Sniegoski's work for younger readers includes Billy Hooten: Owlboy, and the fantasy quartet OutCast, which he co-authored with Christopher Golden. OutCast is in development as a film at Universal. Sniegoski and Golden have also collaborated on the adult dark fantasy series The Menagerie, and multiple creator-owned comic book series, including The Sisterhood, which is being prepped for a feature film by InterMedia, and Talent, currently in development at Universal after a major bidding war.
As a comic book writer, Sniegoski's work includes Stupid, Stupid Rat Tails, a prequel miniseries to international hit, Bone. Sniegoski collaborated with Bone creator Jeff Smith on the prequel, making him the only writer Smith has ever asked to work on those characters. Sniegoski and Golden also wrote the graphic novel BPRD: Hollow Earth, a spinoff from Hellboy.
Sniegoski was born and raised in Massachusetts, where he still lives with his wife LeeAnne and their Labrador Retriever, Mulder. Tom recently completed the new young adult novel, Legacy, which is set to be released in October of 2009.
Aerie is the third book in The Fallen series written by Thomas E. Sniegoski and centered on Aaron Corbet, who on his eighteen birthday learned that he is a nephilim – a human/angel hybrid.
Aaron Corbet continues his search for his foster brother, Stevie Stanley, with Camael, a former Power, and Gabriel, his dog. Aaron is still coming to terms about being a nephilim and he is no closer to discovering the identity of the angel who sired him. By pure accident, they stumble upon folks who are from Aerie, a place where the Fallen and Nephilim live together to avoid the Powers.
Verchiel is still in hot pursuit of Aaron and sends his magical warrior Malak (Stevie Stanley) to hunt for Aaron's scent. Malak wears armor impervious to angel fire, and possesses the keen ability to pick up the scent or trail of the Fallen and Nephilim and mercilessly kills them. He is determined to prove his worth and find the chosen one for his master Verchiel.
Meanwhile, Aaron Corbert must prove to the citizens of Aerie that he is indeed the chosen one, a hard enough task when he is unsure himself. An ancient, wise, and gentle Fallen Angel named Belphegor helps Aaron to fully unite his human and angelic natures. While in the process of becoming whole, Aaron hears Vilma Santiago's pleas for help and instinctively goes to her rescue, not realizing that it could be a trap.
Despite overwhelming odds, he battles Verchiel and the Powers to save Vilma. Aaron meets Malak and realizes that it is his little brother Stevie who has been changed somehow, but couldn’t bring himself to kill his own brother. Aaron rescues Vilma and takes her back to Aerie, but the battle follows him and he loses many friends and loved ones.
Verchiel learns from Belphegor who Aaron was sired by during the battle, he taunts Aaron with jibes about his father. Enraged, Aaron demands that Verchiel reveal his father's identity and is stunned by who it was – Lucifer, the first of the fallen angels.
Aerie is written rather well. Sniegoski continues with his development of a world where angels and nephiliim exists and does it rather well. I rather like the premise of the series, the prophecy concerning Aaron Corbert as the Redeemer has an interesting twist, where we find out that he is the son of Lucifer. Camael's memory of The Fall is written rather well and how he is partially and indirectly responsible for the creation of Aerie.
However, I am still having a slight difficulty in connecting with Aaron Corbet, the main protagonist in the series. While he finally accepted his angelic part, he could be extremely dense in some parts of the narrative. However, having said that he wasn’t as annoying as he was in the previous installments.
All in all, Aerie is written rather well and is a somewhat good continuation to what would hopefully be a wonderful series, which I plan to continue in the very near future.
In this book Aaron and his posse finds Aerie, a safe heaven for Nephilims and fallen angels.
Part of this book easily deserved 3,5, maybe even 4 stars, for example: Camael's memories of the Fall are well written and an interesting read, as are reading how he learns that he indirectly is responsible for Aerie existing in the first place, and meeting the nephilims he had saved from the Powers. The narrative is strong and the emotions behind it are powerful.
That's sadly where the good parts end. Aaron is so mindnumbingly stupid it actually hurts to read som parts. I had to put the book down and count slowly to ten just to be able to finish it
He keeps asking who his father is, but there is always something that gets in the way of him getting an answer. Until the big bad Powers Commander says 'He's the one who started it all. Without his selfish act none of us would have fallen.' That's a nobrainer, right? Yeah, Not if you're Aaron Corbett.
That's just one of the examåles, there are more. Many more.
Verchiel refers to humans as 'God's most favored creation' but all of them treat humans as if they wore nothing worse as dirt under their shoes, or worse. They're called animals, monkeys etc. The fallen who took Lucifer's side seeing them that way isn't surprising, but the ones still in his good graces? Isn't 'the creator' supposed to be infallible? Seems fishy to me.
The only reason this book gets any stars at all is a quote from Lehash, a gunslinging, stetson wearing badass, who I totally picture looking like Clint Eastwood. With wings, of course.
Can't get any clearer than that, boy. Your daddy's the Devil
Aaron Corbet, Camael, and Gabriel are searching for Aaron's kidnapped, autistic foster brother Stevie who was snatched by Verchiel, the leader of the Powers. They, in turn, are captured by the fallen angels who are hiding in Aerie with more Nephilim. Aaron is having difficulty integrating his angel half and receives tutelage from Belphgor, who is the leader of Aerie. During this training, Aaron finds out that Verchiel has also kidnapped Vilma Santiago, the girl he likes. The leaders of Aerie, the constable Lehash, his daughter Lorelei, and Scholar try to persuade Aaron that rescuing Vilma is futile but Aaron heads out alone. He finds more than he bargained for as Verchiel has transformed Stevie into the killing machine Malak. I enjoyed this book as it was the third in a series and I did want to find out what was going to happen. Gabriel, the yellow Lab, is becoming more and more intelligent and helpful to Aaron. He even has developed a sense of humor. This dog is one of my favorite characters.

Deep in my mind I was planning to drop this series after reading the second book. I just saw it going downhill from there and I didn't want to be there to see it happen. Luckily for me, I have this new agreement with my boyfriend that he selects a book from my kindle library at random. And this Sunday he selected Aerie (after having selected Red Dragon from the Hannibal Lecter Series first, but since I had just watched the movie the day before I took a pass on that one)
Aaron Corbet is a Nephilim, the son a human woman and a fallen angel. He is believed to be the fulfillment of a legend- the person who will redeem the fallen angels. However, Aaron's focus is a little more narrow. He wants to save his dog and his younger foster brother. That's a daunting task when you are fighting angels.
The third installation is full of action from the start til the end. Though the mystery about Aaron's father is revealed, it still doesn't say his reaction. Maybe there will be at the 4th installation. All in all it is a ok read but there's still something missing-something that makes me want to finish it in one sitting that I can't wait reading it after going home.
My mom recommended this series to me. And I forgot about it, for a couple months, til the first Made for Tee Vee Movie came out. Then I read all four books...very very quickly. :D I thoroughly enjoyed them. They were not what I expected. I'm glad that I gave them another chance.
Aerie is about a magical place it's like a little piece of heaven for angels who where banished from heaven. But here is the catch a angel named Verchiel and his hhenchmen are killing angels who are fallen.
