Elizabeth Percival is sweet. Professionally. She left behind a life of stifling luxury to work in Cadwell’s chocolate shop. After over a decade, she’s itching to take over. She’s not about to let some broad-shouldered brawler mess it up. Even if he does have shoulders to die for.

Sidney Chance isn’t an enforcer…anymore. After a decade of smacking heads together in the name

Sarandah Princess
Elizabeth is a posh, hardworking, confident, almost (but not quite) too perfect heroine. She's got a bombshell body and isnt afraid to flaunt and adorn it, neither is she afraid to ask for what she wants.

Sidney is a recovering alcoholic, bisexual, big ol sweetheart of a man who is learning that maybe the street gang life isn't for him. Sid's got some past to work through but is doing his best.
He loves being bossed, which works out well because Beth is bossy as hell. :) and he loves that.

Trouble and Strife is the second novella in the Chances Limited series by Lara Kinsey. This novella is about Elizabeth Percival who finds herself drawn to the lieutenant of the infamous Chance Brothers gang. This book was the first I've read by Lara Kinsey and it will not be my last. I loved the interplay between the two characters. Sid definitely has that bad boy feel going. And I loved how innocent and proper Beth seems but how in touch she is with her sexuality. The only downside to this book ...more

We are all here today because we are reviewing my first ever ARC. Exactly, my friends, somebody trusted me enough (or didn't known me well enough?) to let me read their work in advance and to the author I'm forever thankful.

Because I wasn't sure if I would have been able to follow the story without having read book 1 (the review of you can read here ! ), I decided to not half-ass things and read Hammer & Tongs first. Verdict: if you wanna read the books exclusively for the romance, yo

For me, the characters didn't engage me. She holds the power in their relationship, but seemed bossy and not very loving outside the bedroom. She did have a good impact on the H, he changed for the better but his thoughts were weak and hazy. She has an odd health issue, and given the times it seemed likely to be syphilis. I must be wrong as it doesn't fit into the realm of romance. But it was and odd thing to add. Overall just OK, this is the 2nd book by this author that was only 3 stars...hmm. ...more

I was given an ARC, which is awesome and I'm very thankful.

Figure I'll just run through a few of my thoughts on the novella.

1) Sidney (Sid): So fucking lovable. While I've given this the "femdom" tag, I have not given it the "BDSM" one. This is because it's probably more rolereversal than truly what we think of as femdom. This comes down to Sid, who prefers to be a follower. As a lover I'd personally call him a service top, which is something you see all too rarely. Sid was so great. Clearly,

Set in 1930s Birmingham, with a backdrop of razor gangs and industrial development strongly reminiscent of the popular television series “Peaky Blinders,” Lara Kinsey’s Trouble & Strife is a sweet novella of unlikely love. Our hero is the aging brother to the head of a large criminal enterprise just at the point of becoming legitimate. He finds his only skills—namely, violence and intimidation—are becoming obsolete in this changing world. While our heroine is an ambitious chocolatier with a grea ...more

I really enjoyed Trouble and Strife by Laura Kinsey. It's a very quick read and I didn't want to put down. It's the second in a series and it helps if you've read the first book, but it's not entirely necessary. I love that we are in an age in romance where authors are addressing real issues that women face but that have been traditionally left out of romance because it isn't sexy. Specifically in this book I'm talking about the female main character Elizabeth's issues with pelvic pain. I loved ...more

Thank you to the author for providing me with a digital ARC via Booksprout in exchange for my honest review.

"She's reached into the tangled threads of his life, all the conflicting impulses and double standards, and writ a new rule on his heart; punch up, not down. It was astonishing in its clarity."

I originally reached out to the author because Trouble & Strife sounded exactly like the romance story I could enjoy, and see myself in. That is to say: a story that features fat and queer protag
This is the second book in the series that I've read. I can't wait for the third! I really enjoy this series. You have a really strong female lead a bit like the first book as well but in a very different way. The female lead, Elizabeth, is a strong character but controls things in a much subtler way than Brighid, who really took matters into her own hands, from Book 1. I really liked the dynamic between Elizabeth and Sidney. Elizabeth is a plus-sized woman with large tits and Sidney is totally ...more

A charming romance novella with a high heat level is always good for getting one out of a reading rut, that's for sure. I loved the setting of a chocolate shop, and I enjoyed both main characters. I thought the issues of addiction recovery and pain associated with sex were dealt with very sensitively. And I was very glad the book did not fall into the trope of the man being the curative for the woman's sexual problems. It was a thoroughly enjoyable, quick read, and my only wish is that Elizabeth ...more

I was fortunate to receive a ARC of trouble and Strife by Lara Kinsey. I have found it to be quite a refreshing and unexpected novella. Although set in the early part of the 20th century and following the Razor gangs of England, the novella captures a lot of charm and shows a lot of d other to the characters. I particularly loved how empowered the heroine, Elizabeth the strength she exudes off the page. A charming, delicious book a perfect bite size, just like the delicious chocolates mentioned ...more

Great, unique historical

Really enjoying the books by this new to me author. Interesting and dynamic characters and great rep here. Heroine has pelvic pain and is a bit of a domme and hero is bisexual and part of a Pleaky Blinders-esque gang with way less violence.

Trouble & Strife is the second book in Lara Kinsey’s Chances Limited series, but it can be read alone – I came to it without having read the previous novella, Hammer & Tongs, and I never found myself feeling lost. Elizabeth (Beth) Percival makes her debut in Trouble & Strife, a voluptuous, take-charge woman who works at a chocolate shop frequented by Sidney (Sid) Chance, lieutenant of the Chance Brothers gang. Kinsey gives us some serious steam and sweetness with this pair, and I loved getting t ...more

* 3.5
