Not everything is as it seems!!
Sophie has been hiding and trying to survive ever since her parents were murdered. She purchases Vadim from a man to be her bodyguard fully expecting his life to be cut short by her enemies. But Vadim doesn't think she should take things lying down, he thinks they should strike out at her enemies instead of hiding from them. He is vicious, brutal and he has also become her lover. Things are not always what they seem and Sophie's enemies won't take her retaliation lying down, they have been planning something evil from the very start. This is a great read and I highly recommend it!

Sophie has pretty much always known that her life would be cut short as all her family has suffered from a centuries old feud. But she refuses to let them get her without a fight. Sophie is running out of options and that’s where Vadim comes in. Vadim needs to teach Sophie some things and it may just start with punishment for her smart mouth.
The twist in this story caught me by surprise and it really made the story that much better. Another hit from Loki Renard!

I really enjoyed this steamy, intense and twisted tale. I thought that Sophie and Vadim shared such an interesting dynamic and I loved their chemistery. I found these characters quite complex and very strong. The tension and power struggle between them was very engaging and I liked that there were so many layers and secrets to explore as the story unfolded. This is my honest, voluntary review.

I really enjoyed this one. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a mafia romance, it was more ex mafia against the mafia…but it did take lots of twists I wasn’t expecting.
There wasn’t much brutality, the opening chapters made me think it would be filled with horror but it was actually pretty tame. (Or I’m desensitised…)
I think this is a great read if you’re hooked on mafia romance but want something away from the status quo.

First, I want to tell readers that this isn't as "dark" as the title implies: the H does not rape (yes, I say "rape," not "dub-con") the h, kidnap her, really hurt her (for my caveat to this, see below), torture her, starve her, or imprison her. It's also clear that he cares about her (and he ). Finally, the "h" -- like all of Ms. Renard's heroines -- is never "broken" (which I appreciate, because so many female characters in this genre are complete doormats).
If you've ever read a Loki Renard book before, there is absolutely nothing new in this one. Because I've said all I'd say here in other reviews, I'm just going to briefly note that her H, h, their relationship and their characterizations, snarky dialogue (though not as much as we usually see), the plot and its resolution (really, Ms. Renard, yet another ?) are pretty par for the course in most of her books. TBH, I'm no longer understanding where her male characters are coming from: they constantly call the female characters "brats" (.
The plot does contain an interesting twist I didn't see coming, but it's predicated on such a gigantic plot hole (the author never explains how ) that, rather than admire it, I was taken out of the story by said plot hole.
However, even though there's nothing new under Ms. Renard's sun in this book, it's still enjoyable: well-written; erotic (though I've never liked her public punishment scenes; this is my personal taste as I know other readers do), with a fast-moving plot, a strong heroine who is never completely "tamed" (thank god), and a hero we do have some empathy for. I did find myself rooting for Vadim and Sophie as a couple. And I was really happy that, unlike so many of her heroines, Sophie wasn't a teenager (really authors, just don't).
3 1/2 stars. I would have rated this more highly, but any time the H beats a , I'm going to deduct stars. In this case, Vadim didn't even seem to care that he might really hurt at the end.
Note: I adhere to the ratings system as laid out by Goodreads: 2 stars = it was okay; 3 stars = liked it; 4 stars = really liked it; 5 stars = it was amazing. I gave this book 3 1/2 stars because it drew me in, even though I didn't feel Ms. Renard did anything here she hasn't done before. I do not think that every book I read is "amazing;" further, I think that it cheapens the rating system to always assign 4 or 5 stars. If a book really earns the 4 or 5 stars (and I realize that this is, to some degree, subjective), I'll give them -- but it certainly shouldn't apply to every book. Ymmv, and everyone should enjoy/rate these books as they wish.

There is hot, dominant sex and brutal punishments in store for Sophie who lives in a secure mansion with all her defenses covered, except when Vadim arrives, then she needs her defenses against him. There are so many secrets on both sides, there is a mystery about the generations of war from two very powerful families where the blood flows but the secrets are secure. This story will keep you wondering except for Vadim and Sophie, they know exactly what will happen each time they connect with their sexual heat, every single time they burn up the pages with their uncontrolled desires, they are one hot couple. There doesn't seem to be a HEA in their future, both suffer from the sins of past crimes they had nothing to do with. I will admit, there is a HEA that is well deserved and very satisfying.

Sophie is the last member of her family, everyone else was killed by the Vristok, she buys Vadim at an illegal slave market to be her new bodyguard. Vadim is no slave and he shows Sophie exactly who is in charge. Fast-paced read with loads of drama and suspense. The chemistry is intense, steamy and dark. I was hooked from beginning the end. I loved it!

This was a decent read. Something slightly different. It did have a few far fetched things that tilted slightly further from reality than believable, but they were brief allowing for an eye roll and then move on.

I am going to rant then give it my final review.
I liked this book because it was different than all the dark romance I read. This though, wasn't as dark as books like "Midnight Mayhem" or the Cat and Mouse Duet (which I haven't read). It was dark in the sense of the foreplay the two had. Let's talk about the foreplay. It was harsh.
You see...
I didn't read the trigger warnings when starting to read this story so I had no idea what was gonna happen. Dude slapped her in front of everyone in the store then... proceeded to spank her so she can learn her lesson. My first mind jumped to abuse. Then.... she told him to stop and when we got to her POV, she mentioned how she liked it. Now, maybe if I had read the trigger warnings, I would have gotten myself prepared for all things like this. The part that concerned me though was when she tased him and later on, he spanked her hard and hard then fucked her. She mentioned that she felt humiliated and started to cry. He mentioned that he had small regrets but not a lot because she humiliated him so he did the same thing. Now, in this case she cried stop but later on mentioned that everything they do is consentual and that she loves him. I was in a full shocked and confused state because WHAT. The thing I was most afraid of though was when she was pregnant. Dude went hard and when I mean hard, I mean hard, but I guess she liked it.
Lesson for next time, READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS.

This book has truly done it people. When they say there is one book that can change your mind on things, this was my book. I have read tons of dark romances but I always prepare myself, the one day I don't.. my whole review is different.

4.5 Brutally Destroyed Stars!
This is my 3rd read by Loki, The Seller being a 5 star for me while Property was only a 2 star....so when I say I don't have a clear opinion on her work I truly mean it....both my experiences prior to this one were polar opposites of each other. Still, this book was another cover instalove and the blurb promised the darkness with a spin I have yet to see. A woman owning a male slave? That slave turning the tables and owning her instead? Interesting concept, if its done right. Well let me put out a HUGE warning, take everything you THINK this book will be and throw it out the window. It is such a complex tale where NOTHING is as it seems, no one is really who you think they are, and an ancient blood feud is what fuels it all.
Book Facts: Told in dual POV, Brutally Broken is a standalone that features dark elements and sexual scenes. It could be triggering and uncomfortable for some readers. Sophie is used to having it all but living the life she does has it consequences, which is what leads her to one of her most desperate purchases ever. Her life is in danger, and she needs one of the shackled men for sale in front of her. What she doesn't expect is the man she buys refuses to be owned, instead quickly turning the tables on her. Rarely do I find a book that I want to talk about in such detail in a review yet resist solely due to the fact that nothing is what it seems and even the slightest of hints will ruin it. What I can say is my mind is still blown at what goes down and what twists we are subjected to in this story. It isn't for the faint of heart, but if you open your mind and give this book your full attention what you will get out of it is a unique story with an ending you could NEVER see coming. It's so much more than the blurb hints to, and features a heroine I can't see anyone actually liking. But, it all makes sense after the fact --- even though you may be like me and still not like her lol.
I not only 100% recommend this book, I would go as far as saying its a MUST READ. Its one of those that will require so much from you to get through it at times, but the pay off is one that truly makes you use your brain.....its not an easy story, but most of the really good ones never are.

It's so much more than the blurb hints to, and features a heroine I can't see anyone actually liking. But, it all makes sense after the fact --- even though you may be like me and still not like her lol.
I not only 100% recommend this book, I would go as far as saying its a MUST READ. Its one of those that will require so much from you to get through it at times, but the pay off is one that truly makes you use your brain.....its not an easy story, but most of the really good ones never are.

Loved the book, the story was well written and the characters were intriguing. Once I started I could not get enough, from the start till the end I was engrossed I was even on the edge of my seat with twists and turns, lust and passion, strength. The story of eroticism, Dominant/ Submissive and humiliation of sensation. Do yourself a favor and buy the book you want be disappointed.

This story of two powerfully evil bloodlines collide centuries of blood drawn. I enjoyed these characters and their passions for death, revenge, and surprising themselves with love for one another. There are sexy scenes with spankings and undenyable chemistry with a little surprise for a new beginning for Vadim Vristok and Sophie Mortari.

So good!
From the beginning there was a different approach to dark mafia. So many secrets. I'd think I had it figured out and then something else would happen. I Would think the characters are heading left and one would turn right. loved the ending.

Another great book
This is my 2nd book from this author and I just love it. Love the characters, love the story and I most definitely loved the ending. The book starts off hilariously funny..... I was intrigued and as the pages went along I just couldn't put it down. A must read!

Why did I wait so long to read this!! I did not want to put this book down. Vadim and Sohpie are some dark and twisted people and I loved every minute of it

I really enjoyed this book. It wasn’t what it seemed at first and I found myself rather captivated by the story’s twist and turns.

Needs a different reality
To explain the 3 star rating: the story is interesting with a good concept and some surprising turns... Which should have gotten a 4 star but for the fact that some points were so outlandish that I think a different reality might have added to the story. Setting it in modern day America but with ancient feuds and curses just did not feel believable.
Vadim as the (anti) hero was easier to connect with. I did not much care for Sophie though. I felt little sympathy for her, and even understanding that she needs Vadim to keep her more evil side in line, I felt she was undeserving of his love... In the end, I felt Vadim was obligated to her rather than in love, for she was not really lovable.

For years and through many generations until the last living members come face to face. Sophie was a young woman alone since the assassination death of her parents, she would have died as well if not for the actions of a faithful aide. As a last resort she purchases a man to become her protector, employees may leave but a sold man is there forever. Vadim had been banished from the brotherhood, exiled for a crime he had never committed, a man as ruthless and full of anger it was possible to be. She had purchased him and saved him from the fighting pit where he would have died, she was patronizing, arrogant and determined. He owed her nothing and yet he protected as much as he punished her. She gave his life meaning and he gave her a future. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "BRUTALLY BROKEN" This a dark intense twisted suspense filled drama, with intrigue, hot steamy erotic sex scenes, humor, secrets, mind control, and a few twists you don't see coming you are sitting on the edge of your seat turning page after page.
Sophie is a Mortari and the last of her bloodline a century old feud has her fighting for life since the day she was born she buys a bodyguard Vadim a Russian from the underground to protect her.
Sophie gets more than she expected with Vadim she is spoiled, strong willed, feisty, naughty, and a bratty girl that he takes control of after she removes his cuffs.
I loved both Vadim and his dominant alpha ways and Sophie who fights him at every turn.
This is an excellent extremely well crafted storyline by Loki Renard she is one awesome writer knows how to pull you right into a story and not let go until finished reading and her characters are always so well developed and entertaining.
I wish Sophie and Vadim's story didn't end I just loved these two characters so will you I definitely recommend so well worth the read it won't disappoint. AWESOME AWESOME READ!!!!!

Good twist 4 ½ stars - Before reading this book, you should know that it has humiliation scenes. If you cannot separate real life decisions from fictional character (namely Sophie’s) preferences then you’ll have a hard time reading how Vadim treats her. But if you can treat what you read is nothing but a romance fiction then you might be able to enjoy the good plot of this book. The beginning of the story grabs you right away. It’s different because usually in mafia romance, it’s the woman who is for sale. In this story, Vadim was bought by Sophie, but not owned. Their relationship is full of power struggles that usually culminates in explosive sex. Circumstances made them realize that they care deeply for each other. I couldn’t see how the author was going to get to an HEA for Sophie and Vadim given the major twist. The ending was satisfactory but tied closed swiftly. It is a well-written dark mafia romance. [I received an advanced copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.]

Once he determines the problem, he sets out to eradicate it. Will he be able to accomplish this goal? Who will be stronger---Sophie or Vadim? Can they each maintain their power and learn to work together? Do they want to?
The intensity level for both characters is HIGH, HOT, STERN, EROTIC, and extremely COMPLEX. There really are not enough words for me to adequately describe this overwhelming, powerful story of the interaction between Sophie and Vadim.

Since the day she was born she has pretty much been figuring she would die soon. Now that her last bodyguard has been killed she buys a new one. This is how she meets Vadim. He is Russian and has been thrown out of the mafia by a huge betrayal by his brotherhood. Now he wants revenge but first he has some serious lessons to teach the woman who thinks she owns him. The twist that is in this story though you will never see coming. Wow this book was dark and amazing and one I read in one sitting. I loved every second of it.
