Deliciously scrumptious! A sexy new series full of magic, mayhem and merman! I thoroughly loved this new world and characters. I enjoyed the suspense and the romance woven in I can’t wait to dive deeper into the characters and uncover more about this new world.

Aiden dislikes all things magic. His experiences with it haven’t been successful. He sees what kind of creatures the magical are and he’s tired of it. On the run from his last encounter he settles in Portugal. Where he hopes his days of being touched by magic are done. Deep down he knows he’s got some kind of magic but burying his head in the warm sand helps him forget that. Then he meets Naël. A gorgeous merman who captures his heart without even trying.

A nice low key story about love and magic

Loved this seaside mystery. Easy read. Keeps you guessing. Only reason I gave 4 stars was at times I would skip over some of the descriptive details. I must admit they were beautifully written though.

So really good but now I have questions and want more. What is Aiden? IS there another book? What is going to happen to Nael and Aiden? What about Nael’s sister? Will Aiden ever come to terms with who he is? Who is he reallY? Who is trying to hurt Aiden? So many unanswered questions.

Aiden is running scared to me. He is denying who he is and because of this doing something he isn’t. He isn’t a barista really. He is a good PI and he left it because of unfortunate incidents with magical beings. He

A Joyfully Jay review.

This book has issues. Issues is a strong word, but it’s the best one to use here. It’s not a secret that I have a fondness for world building. If only this book had any. A host of magical creatures live in this world alongside humans and humans just don’t know? Humans and magical folk can breed, in some cases, and merrow DNA is on register with the army and the local police force, so how well known are the paranormal races? It’s never made clear. At all. The worl

Well, this is a hard book to rate. I love me some mermen romance and this sounded SO promising. However, ultimately I think I was a bit disappointed by the execution of the story and the writing.

Aiden used to be a detective in DC when a case went wrong and he walked away from that life. Now, he lives in Portugal and and owns a cafe and wants nothing to do with any magical beings. Unfortunately, although he tries to avoid magical beings, they keep finding him. One in particular wants his help to

2 and 1/2 stars. I can’t give a book a higher rating than this when I could barely tolerate the main character. Aiden was a sarcastic, argumentative, bigoted and quick tempered. His entire attitude really put a damper on the book for me. The only reason I didn’t give up after a few chapters was it was that except for Aiden all the other characters of any consequence where engaging. How Nael fell in love with Aiden was beyond my comprehension. Obviously, I finished it and thought it was well writ ...more

Do you love a really well written story with a serial killer, murder, danger, mystery, the paranormal- as well as a sexy MM romance? Well that’s what you will find between the covers of this sublime story. Natalina Reis delivers yet another wonderful book- and having read all her works to date, I can honestly say that this is one of my favourites of hers, so far.
Aiden and Nael are such great characters- their chemistry is intense, adding an extra element of spice t the story. With Aiden’

I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

A book set in a Portugese beach town will always catch my attention and the addition of murder and magic made this story a must read. The unexpected setting is truly fabulous and the blend of high fantasy and urban fantasy is great.

Some of the tropes are a little predictable. Like all fantasy heroes, Aiden is an unlikely hero (he’s an ineffective cafe owner/beach bum) and he’s full of attitude in a way that will be a little to

Of Magic and Scales by Natalina Reis is a quirky story that is MM romance and is full of magic and mayhem, suspense and romance and has many paranormal characters but the man man is a merman. I really enjoyed the world and characters that Natalina has created. It is a fun and easy read that is well written and interesting. I found myself laughing out loud with this feel good romance.

What I Think: As evidenced from above, I have no business summarising anything which would explain why my English Teacher in secondary school always laughed at my summaries. It is supposed to be short, non? This is my first review with Hot Tree Publishing. Thank you so much for the opportunity for ’tis an honour. It is also my first time reading this Authoress and her intro dedicated to her country simply delighted me! Its the little things, you know. Easy to please. Me. Okay, let’s do this! The ...more

MMy Thoughts and Confessions:

I can't remember a time in the last two years when I have struggled to write a review so much. I do NOT lack the gift of gab, as anyone who has ever read one of my reviews knows. For some unknown reason though, my thoughts won't transfer the way I want them to. I have written and rewritten this review countless times over the last four days. I thought I had finally gotten a good enough review down and for some reason, it didn't write over/ tr

5 out of 5 stars

I loved reading the story Of Magic and Scales by Natalina Reis. It is a book that I found myself not able to put down until I had finished the last page. It is a story that includes magic, magical creatures, mystery, danger, and romance. I loved reading about the characters of Aiden Mercer and Nael Fouchard. Aiden wants to live his life with no complications. Instead, he finds himself in the search for a killer. The search not only takes him awa

Of Magic and Scales is a great M/M fantasy, romantic thriller by Natalina Reis that had me captivated from the very beginning, right up to the very end. It is my first read by this author and I’m pretty sure it won’t be my last as I enjoyed this book very much.
I do like a good M/M romance but this one is that little bit different in that one of the main characters, Nael, is a merman (or merrow as they prefer to be called). If, like me you are wondering how to pronounce Nael’s name it’s pronounc

What I Loved: The murder mystery. It was really well-done and had me on the edge of my seat throughout the book. Natalina Reis is no doubt a talented writer and her prose was very elegant.

What I Liked: The premise and the world-building, even if there were some plot points I wished had been better explained or expanded on.

I liked Aiden, despite him constantly putting himself down and a bit immature regarding his issues with magical beings. He was relatable and I was invested in his stor

This is a juicy fantasy thriller if I’ve ever read one and I’ve been excited to read it. I found this book to be entertaining, witty and a page-turner.
With a serial killer on the run, a perplexed enigma about Aiden’s former life, Aiden and Fouchard must walk on eggshells through two different worlds between magic and myth where they’re not in power or seeking victory.
Aiden Mercer has a beautiful life on the beach where he relaxes for a living especially after a life as a former respected detec

I have yet to find a novel by Natalina Reis that I didn’t absolutely love and want to devour in one sitting, and Of Magic & Scales is no exception to the rule. I seriously love the way that Natalina can weave a tale full of magic and fable and make you feel as if you know these characters personally and are very much real. She makes me believe in the magic and I love the feelings I experience as I read her work! This is a MM romance so if that isn’t your thing don’t read but I bet it would make ...more

Mystery, magical beings, murder, intrigue and falling in love.  I thought the concept and the plot of this story was delightful.  The characters were enjoyable and likable.  I enjoyed their banter and connection.  I thought it was interesting to see Aiden struggle with his being a magical being, but not understanding what his magic was... just knowing he was different and wanting to not be.  There was some really interesting twists and turns in this story and I enjoyed the read.

Of Magic and Scales is a novel by Natalina Reis. This is my third novel by this author.

The premise caught my attention and I was not disappointed.

Aiden has started a new life in Portugal after moving from DC, where he hopes to start over and not seeing anything magical but things don’t go as planned when he meets a merman named Naël Fouchard.

With a serial killer on the loose the two work together in order to save Naël's sister.

Their first meeting is hilarious and laughed on the bus while read

If you love the world of magic, mystery and great characters you will love Of Magic and Scale by Natalina Reis. The story follows Aiden a laid back person who is looking to relax and chill in life until he meets the stoic character of Nael.

Nael is a protector for his little sister but when he gets put as prime suspect in the murders which have been discovered he enlists the help of a unlikely character in Aiden, but Nael has a secret and will this affect their relationship if found out. Will the

I have read several of Natalina’s books and always enjoy them. This one is no different. Aiden Mercer has moved far away from DC and actively tries to avoid magical creatures. To bad they need him and are going to get him to help. Magical creatures are being killed and a merman is being framed for the killings. Nael is what you might call rough around the edges. But man is he good looking. There is instant chemistry between the two. But the last things Aiden wants is another incident with a magi ...more

This book was so much fun! I loved Aiden. His carefree attitude is really just a cover to hide some of the hurt he is hiding from. He moved to Portugal and the beach in order to escape from his troubles in the USA. He was a PI and always seemed to get involved in things that he shouldn’t. He can see the magical energies around those who aren’t human and there aren’t as many magicals in his small beach town and that is how he likes it. He has no idea how or why he has this power. Enter one snarky ...more

Aiden is a perfectly mundane coffee shop owner in Portugal…who just happens to have the perfectly unmundane ability to see magical beings (“magicals”) and who used to be a private investigator in the US before interactions with the magical community drove him to seek a simpler, more anonymous life. Which isn’t working— because a witch wants his help investigating murders and the primary suspect is the hottest merman Aiden’s ever seen. I’m torn about this book: the premise is fantastic, and I lov ...more

Of Magic and Scales by Natalina Reis is a sweet, heart warming story that is a mixture of romance and magic. This is a M/M romance with two lovely characters that you will definitely get behind.
Natalina Reis is one of those authors that has a way of creating a lasting story. They always draw you in and keep you reading, right the way through to the last page.
