I was a hunted woman. Taken in by 4 mountain mercenaries. Accepting their help was a mistake. Why? Because mercenaries trust no one. They’re scarred and damaged men. And now they won’t let me go. I thought I was lucky to be alive. But now that I’m on Savage Mountain, I’m not so sure. Think life with four sexy, demanding hired killers is fun? Think again.
This naughty, over-the-top romance includes 4 hulking mountain men with checkered pasts and doubtful futures, claiming the one woman they can’t live without. If you love outrageous stories that a bit of spanking, tying up, voyeurism, and tough military dudes, this might be the book for you.

Dear Reader: I’m USA TODAY bestselling contemporary romance author Mika Lane, and am all about bringing you sexy, sassy stories with imperfect heroines and the bad-a*s dudes they bring to their knees. And I have a special love for romance with multiple guys because why should we have to settle for just one hunky man?
Please join my Insider Group and be the first to hear about giveaways, sales, pre-orders, ARCs, and most importantly, a free sexy short story: http://mikalane.com/join-mailing-list/. Writing has been a passion of mine since, well, forever (my first book was The Day I Ate the Milkyway, a true fourth-grade masterpiece). These days, steamy romance, both dark and funny, gives purpose to my days and nights as I create worlds and characters who defy the imagination. I live in magical Northern California with my own handsome alpha dude, sometimes known as Mr. Mika Lane, and two devilish cats named Chuck and Murray. These three males also defy my imagination from time to time.
A lover of shiny things, I've been known to try new recipes on unsuspecting friends, find hiding places so I can read undisturbed, and spend my last dollar on a plane ticket somewhere.
I'll always promise you a hot, sexy romp and some version of a modern-day happily ever after.
Not into the S.A. aspect. No safe words. Coercion is not hot. Plus MC acts like she is not adding sex into her work, then immediately decides to have sex and let these guys treat her like garbage. She says no and then the guys just keep saying yes. Disgusting definitely not a good read for someone who has been S.A.ed.
A friend takes Mari (the MFC) to a party but the night doesnt end as well as they planned. Now Mari is on the run from bad guys who want to hurt or even kill her. Whilst on the run she ends up in a diner where she thinks shes being followed. She gets to talking with Christian & Dutch who with the Red & Victor are looking a housekeeper/cleaner which she accepts. Not really knowing the guys shes working for. I liked Mari as a character but there were times throughout the book where i just wanted her to stand up for herself. Other than that i actually liked this book. The story is quite good
Needed a trigger warning And idk same as the previous one except i could kind of deal with the previous one since the guys were not nicer per say but more chill less highstrung in a lot of ways even if they were more survival like these guys in the second book didnt have to be like hide out sorta mode yet they were still really controlling and crude and stuff when they didnt have to be and yeah idk bit over the place moreso than the last one i mean i enjoyes the ending more than the last book but it wasnt enough to save the rest od the book from all its rough drama etc.
I picked this up because i was bored with my current reads and just wanted a fun little smutty moment but alas..... I'm better off not rating this...
It started off okay!! The beginning was a little promising because of the premise, it set the mood for some good tension and smut but there was no good tension nor good smut!! But one thing for sure it did make me cackle quite a few times from how ridiculous and funny some moments were.
Here is the general premise: Nurse girlie goes to a party with her nurse girlfriend, ends up killing a guy who tried to r*pe her friend, friend's cousin go after the main nurse girlie for killing that guy, nurse friend tells her bestie to run away from her house because they wanna unalive her, she runs for her life, gets on a bus.
In the diner they stop at, someone is tailing her, she overhears these two guys talking about needing a housemaid for their mountain cabin mansion or whatever and sees it as a chance to run away but the two guys are not being her voluntary request to be their maid when she told them she was a nurse and they ask her and she tells them she was running away, they take her with them, she explains her situation, they decide to help her but they lived with two other guys so they had to get their consent as well anyway one thing leads to another, without any true build up tension, the random smut scatter starts and it goes downhill for me.
the attempt at angst by having someone frame the fmc for stealing something from them was an attempt at best to give it some depth but the attempt failed, at least imo and now im disappointed.

The story is a very interesting one. I kinda feel like this author does very well with the female viewpoints but the male perspectives tend to leave out the men's individual personalities... While telling some history and memories for the men she just misses some of the personalities... Maybe it's not personalities but a lack of details, like in this story the hot tub scene when she first arrives... There is an element of humiliation but his thoughts are along the lines "she'll learn her place" as he walks away... There are other points as well where I guess the author is trying to keep some mystery but it's an opportunity to understand the individual personalities of each male's kinks or issues to give more of his viewpoint and why she must learn or what she will learn... Instead the reader just kinda feels like the girl should offer him nothing next time... I would prefer to read his reasons for walking away because if it's a link he has about control or humiliation or an issue he has with trust or whatever knowing that helps me as a reader build a relationship with both the female who doesn't understand why and the man who has to have some reason... Or he is a real idiot. I guess I am only slightly disappointed that the male viewpoints are slightly lacking details that would help me establish a relationship with the male characters... I still really like this series and the stories are unique... Don't expect the stories to over lap because the first and second in the series are pretty much completely separate the only similarity is they take place in a huge forest on a secluded mountain called Savage Mountain, totally different cabins and setting really and none of the same characters either.
Ms. Mika Lane is no stranger to amazingly written books because that is exactly what she publishes. The Runaway is a delicious and dangerous read and you will have no problem following along as Mari takes us on an incredible journey.
Unbeknownst to Mari, her entire life is about to change. She goes from helping her best friend, to needing help and protection herself. Overhearing a conversation at the diner is just the break she needs to stay hidden but what she finds in this house is not at all what she was expecting.
To romance junkies everywhere... You have got to devour this release. Super sexy romance including drama and intrigue. The Runaway is the kind of book you sit and become engrossed in from page one. Superbly Crafted Romance Right Here.
I voluntarily requested an advanced reader's copy of The Runaway in exchange for my honest opinion and I highly recommend reading this book as well as anything written by Ms. Lane. I can not wait for her next release/installment.
Mari was helping her friend out of a very dangerous situation when everything went to hell. She has to run with a gang after her for what she's done, but she's being followed and needs help.
Derek and Christian are on their way home from a mission when they stumble upon the little beauty. Feisty, yet scared, she takes a seat next to them when her bus makes a rest stop. Hearing them discuss needing a housekeeper, she jumps at the chance. With these men around she could be safe.
Of course saying that nothing but her cleaning would be on the table, but in reality these guys were hot and she is no saint.
This book heats up quickly and stays that way, we also have a bit of a conflict between Mari and the cook just to spice things up a bit.
Lots of interesting twists and revelations as this story unfolds. I look forward to the next installment in this series.
Title: The Runaway Author: Mika Lane Format: Audio Narrator: Laurie West Genre: Romantic suspense, military, mercenary, reverse harem Standalone: Yes Part of a Series: Book 2 of the Savage Mountain Men series POV: Christian, Mari, Dutch, Red Steam Level: Hot 5/5
This is the first Mika Lane Book that I've read that has an epilogue. I loved that addition. The Runaway was a super xexy, super cute reverse harem romance. I loved both the military and the mercenary aspects of it. The Runaway sucked me in and held me tight. The suspense was a fun aspect and I don't think I'll ever look at houseplants the same again.
I listened to this in the Savage Mountain Men Collection box set that I got for free from Audiobooks Unleashed. This is my honest and voluntary review.
What a fucking moron. I'm sorry, I know that a lot of these romances are not to be taken seriously, but I have to seriously question who the demographic enjoying reads like this is? Are there women that think it's sexy, hot or romantic to be treated like shit?! Humiliated? And then just put out within 5 minutes with no apology or barely even a hello?! I feel the same way as with bully romances. I just don't get it. I don't mind enemies to lovers, but treating someone like shit on purpose? And then getting to fuck them? Ugh. No. Just. NO!!!
Sad to say that I could not get through the whole book. I only got 20% of the way and had to stop at how ridiculous the main female character was since I just wanted to shake her and yell in her face to actually use that nurse brain of hers. And of the 4 main male characters acted around her, it was like the bad hot and cold that no wonder she was confused about what to do. Sorry, but I just can't handle stupid people in real life, much less in book format.
Mika Lane is the best at writing reverse harem books that make it possible to believe it could really happen! She did a great job at describing the horrors of war our military often experience while being sensitive to what this book is really about. The story was very enjoyable, sexy, funny, a little bit romantic, and with just enough danger to bring it all together in a satisfying ending.
I loved this book. Mika Lane writes characters that are believable and captivating. Mari was an ER nurse on the run. Someone wanted her dead. She stumbled in two men in a truck stop who offered her a job to keep her safe. Turns out there were four men wanting to keep her safe in their mountain retreat and she fell in love with them all
Yet another amazing story by Mika Lane! Her stories never get old and there is always a twist! Love this story probably the most! A girl running away from her problems finds her way to four sexy mountain men/ex military men. Yum
Mika sure knows how to tell a story. Four men who couldn't be more different yet together they are the perfect man. Add in Mari and you have the perfect story. Danger, sex, intrigue, sex and oh yeah sex.
I loved this book. I think it was the best one yet. Yes it was very steamy, yes the men sounded fantastic. But the story line was fantastic. I can really recommend this book I loved it.
This book is sooo very enjoyable and entertaining. What’s not to like with four handsome men on a mountaintop all alone with one woman? Great odds! I loved it!
I tried to get through the last bit, but oh my God, these characters are infuriating, and I'm usually pretty forgiving to character flaws, being that redemption arcs are a thing, but if there's no improvement by this point, it's not a redemption arc and not going to be believable when it comes.
The book starts off with Mari on the run from a gang after she maybe idk kinda killed a guy for trying to rape her friend. She gets rescued by 2 of them in a diner. They refuse to answer any of her questions about who they are or what they do, and she just accepts that and goes to an isolated cabin because they're hot or whatever. Then, she makes it clear she's not going to be their bang maid, but within an hour becomes their bang maid.
Then they give her the cold shoulder and basically treat her like shit, but still try to fuck her and she just lets them. I'm sorry, I don't care how hot you are, if I'm not being respected, I'm not putting out for you.
Then she's framed for stealing by the cook who has a thing for the guys and is jealous, so they lock her in her room and eventually tie her up when she tries to escape. After a spanking session that apparently is bad enough that she's sore for several days, they make her clean naked where one of them jacks off on her (without consent). After which, another one of them fucks her, which though I guess she consented to, was still pretty r@pey imo.
Like I get they're secret ops and can't tell her much, but they can at least tell her that they're secret ops and can't tell her much, instead they just bitch about how she asks too many questions.
In between it all, there's all kinds of internal monologue by Mari justifying her idiotic actions, which seems to be the writer just trying whatever they can to justify her idiotic actions, none of which is believable.
I know how the rest of the book goes without reading it. There will be a group sex scene, they will get the guys after her, figure out the cook framed her, she'll agree to stay with them, they'll say they love her (but probably don't respect her and are still assholes who use her as a bang maid). And she'll be okay with that life for some reason.
I wish I could get a refund!!! I’ve really been trying to be more proactive in supporting authors by purchasing their books through their sites instead of Amazon. However, it’s crud like this that really chaps my behind and makes me want to stop! This book is not even worth the $6 I paid for it!
The FMC is a doormat and the author keeps on pushing the fact that she’s a nurse to somehow make it seem like she’s smart but she isn’t! She keeps making these stupid decisions and keeps allowing the 4 “men” -can’t even call them that because they act like overgrown Neanderthals- to run all over her. They treat her like garbage but then want to bed her and she’s upset they treat her such way but lets them. And the whole thought process is “well I’m getting mine” but then she’s sad and upset by being constantly diminished and humiliated. I couldn’t roll my eyes enough reading this and struggled to get through it. I’m all for dark romance, erotica, BDSM, Kink, etc but this ain’t it! The main male characters are lacking in every possible way and it honestly makes me angry that the author made them prior military… I’ve known some crappy military men in my lifetime, and this book would make them look like perfect gentlemen with brains!
Honestly, I find it very difficult to believe a woman wrote this! This feels like some guy who really loves giant boobs and has no emotional intelligence wrote it.
I’m just glad I didn’t get the book bundle and I will not be reading this author again! I should’ve stopped at the first book when I wasn’t a big fan of it.

Little did Mari know when she went to a party with her best friend that her life was about to change forever. Events at the party have her running for her life from a gang but she luckily meets two big guys at a diner who are willing to protect her. The two guys live on a mountain with two other guys. As they get to know one another in all ways, a deep connection develops between them all. When Mari's life is no longer in danger she has to decide whether or not to stay with the guys or go home. The book has some action, some jealousy, small amounts of spanking and bondage and lots of steamy sex. The majority of the sex is one on one.
Mari saved her best friend by accidentally killing her attacker. The bad part was that the attacker was part of a gang and they wanted to get revenge on Mari. When she runs to save her life, she manages to convince some men who live on Savage Mountain to help her in exchange for being their maid. Will it ever be safe enough for her to go back to her old life? Will she even want to leave these ruggedly handsome mountain men?
Like the first book, parts of it were very cheesy. I liked the premise of the book though. The ending wrapped everything up nicely.
Each book can be read as a standalone since there is no character crossover so far.
