PREPARE FOR THE BIZARRE! To celebrate Marvel’s 80th we’re resurrecting one of its wildest creations, BIZARRE ADVENTURES! Within these pages you will see Shang-Chi take on a martial arts master, Ulysses Bloodstone battle a master of the dark arts, Dracula meet his match, and the Marvel debut of Achewood’s Chris Onstad! These adventures will be thrilling, exciting and most definitely BIZARRE!
First, let me say that I am a HUGE fan of this kind of comic. The first story, featuring Ulysses Bloodstone, is easily the best, but the Dracula story is pretty good too. The other two (A Shang-Chi story, and a Black Goliath story) are meh, but not terrible. It gets four stars for being like the old weird tales-style comics of yesteryear. I hope more of these make it out into the market, and strange stories and new writers get to be featured.
I’m calling this 4 star. I really dug the opening story (swords & sorcery with a definite Marvel twist!). Art and story were tops. Bloodstone I think it was called. I hope to see more.
Story 2 was a Shang-Chi (sp?). He is a Marvel character I know not much of, but both story and art were enjoyable.
Story 3 is a Dracula story, written and drawn by Becky Cloonan. That will either excite you or turn you away. Myself, I’m a fan. Fun fact, there is an edition of Bram Stokers Dracula illustrated by Becky Cloonan.
The 4th story was a Goliath story (who I thought was dead, but admittedly, I’m behind the times on current Marvel happenings). The story was slight, more of a joke and it has cartoonish art that I didn’t care for.
Inconsistent is the best I can say about this. Would have preferred to see any or all of these stories to appear as back-ups in an ongoing Marvel Comics Presents title.
