A fun addition to this series, “Taken by the Imp” is a light paranormal romance with magical cats, and a complimentary couple that fall for each other almost from the start.
Multi-Millionaire Dexter Graham hasn’t left his home in years. Why? He’s a powerful telepath and when he’s around others, he can hear every thought they have. It gets overwhelming, at times. When he gets a surprise visit from his beloved grandmother’s ghost, she urges him to pack a few things and head to Cat’s Paw Cove to reunite with his brother, Dylan. He arrives and meets Ynez, a jinni and a brilliant chef. The attraction is immediate, and the best part is that Dexter can’t hear her thoughts. As Dexter and Dylan explore their magical heritage, danger stalks Ynez. Can Dexter protect her from an unseen enemy, or will he be too late?
Taken by the Imp is a delightful paranormal romance filled with quirky characters, intrigue plus a great message on helping those less fortunate. The hero and heroine are opposites yet when they’re together, their strengths balance their weaknesses. The character's development adds depth to the plot while the paranormal sub-plot blends nicely with the understated romance. I loved reconnecting with the characters from Cat’s Paw Cove, especially Charley and Dylan. While this is a quick read, it allows the reader to escape for an afternoon. If you’re looking to escape everyday life, take a trip to Cat’s Paw Cove in Taken by the Imp. Highly recommend!
Disclaimer: I received a copy from the author in the hopes I'd review it.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me an e-arc in exchange for an honest review. My review is my own and not influenced by others.
Taken by the Imp is the thirteen book of the Cat’s Paw Cove series by Sharon Buchbinder. You can read this book as a standalone. Dexter is a telepath who has been told by his dead grandmother to go see his brother in Cat’s Paw Cove. There he meets Ynez who is an Imp and a gifted chef.
This story contains humor, romance, paranormal and magical speaking cats and is an easy read.
Okay, it was a quirky, quick read for me. The protagonists are unique: the hero is a recluse and a telepath. The heroine is an imp and a gifted chef. And there are magical cats that can talk. It's a combination of romance and fantasy, mainly fantasy, and er...Stuart Little. :) It really reminded me if Stuart Little and X-Men (not that action packed though).
Dexter's deceased granny appears and prompts him to visit his brother who lives in Cat's Paa Cove. There he meets Ynez. He likes her instantly, as he cannot read her thoughts so it's peaceful. And there are some shocking family secrets.
It started pretty well. But then, so many things happen and it makes the read a little dull. The fact that Dexter could read minds was so fascinating but it hasn't been used in an interesting manner, just a random thought and there. And it makes this character plain. I liked Ynez. The way she cooks, the way her hair changes colour as per her state of mind/emotions. Her floating granny is also interesting but Reginald, the smart magical cat was my favourite.
I didn't enjoy the king-prince-spy portion, however significant. Also, the romance lacks the spark. It's insta-convenient.
Overall it was an okay read. It's kind of Young Adult fantasy fiction. I'm not fan of this genre (I didn't realize while requesting the book). If enjoy this genre, you'll like this.
This little novella is about Dexter and Ynez. Dexter is Big D's brother (we saw his HEA in the last book). Ynez is a genie chef with a dream to open a restaurant that doubles as a work release for homeless people. Dexter is a telepathic recluse. Being a novella, the story is short, so the characters fall in love pretty quickly. The cats are really funny in this one, and we have a big battle at the end which ended up being pretty fun. We don't see much of the retirement home residents in this one, but Agnes is hilarious again. We briefly catch up with Big D and Charly, and things are going well for them.
Dexter is the nerdy, super smart hero. However, as soon as he isn't bombarded by his telepathy, he becomes super smooth and sexy. Ynez was fun and determined. They make a cute couple.
Another installment of the Cat’s Paw Cove series! I’ve loved them all and this one continues the trend. This book is funny and the characters are delightfully flawed. After living in basic isolation, Dexter has understandably issues with social skills from time to time. Ynez is kind and seems to understand him well. It was good to visit with characters I have known from previous books. Humor and romance were well represented in this one. This series always has unique characters that bring readers into their world for a bit.
Thank you NetGalley, Author Collective 20 and Sharon Buchbinder for gifting me an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. If you’re on the market for a romantic comedy with a splash of telepathy and a hint of talking cats, look no further. Taken by the Imp was such a quirky and light read but also extremely out of my usual reads. It worked as the perfect palate cleanser after a heavier book. The romance in this one is sweet and charming. I ended up finishing it in one sitting!
Taken by the Imp is a delightfully sweet romp. There are good guys, bad guys, talking cats, magic and love. Ynez is an Imp and a fabulous chef with a heart of gold and more secrets than even she knows. Dexter is a financial genius and a gifted telepath. He is more gifted than even he knows. When Dexter and Ynez meet its magic. I adored these two. A terrific addition to the series but can be read stand alone.
Another fantastic story by this talented writer. Totally enjoyable that had me smiling while reading. Dexter is one unbelievable character. Don’t miss out.
I probably would have enjoyed this one more if I hadn't read the previous book in this series.
There's a lot to like. The h/H are sweet people, there's interesting backstory for both, what the MCs accomplish at the end is inspiring. It's a sweet story and we see the hero grow into a worthy man and see the heroine living out her dreams. Family, both blood and found, play a huge role in this story and that's something I always enjoy. The MCs also communicate - there are no stupid misunderstandings here. Like the previous book, the romance never really takes centre stage. Instead the MCs finding out the truth about who they are comes forward.
Two things were missing for me. Half the fun of Charlotte Redbird, Ghost Coach is the zaniness of the retirement home. It's sadly missing here. I also feel that Dylan (the hero of the previous book) got shafted. In the last book, we find out that when their grandmother died, she left money for Dexter (the hero of this book) and gave Dylan a mysterious box. When the box comes to play, what it contains ends up being for Dexter too. Dylan got a lot of sly comments in his book about not being magical. We find out in this book that both brothers have a magical lineage but we don't see Dylan being embraced as magical or even changed in any way after the revelations.
I wanted more Dylan, which may be unfair in someone else's book. We could have had more brother time than what we got and had both brothers embracing their heritage. That may be coming from Dylan not having that much to do in his own book so I was hoping for it here, especially since both books publish on the same day.
Having said that, this was a fine book. I just wanted more.
REVIEWED BY LINDA TONIS MEMBER OF THE PARANORMAL ROMANCE GUILD REVIEW TEAM This story first appeared in Meows & Mistletoe, a Holiday Anthology and is now being released on its own. I read the story in the anthology, but any time I have a chance to read a Cat’s Paw Cove story I jump at it even if I have already read it. A place filled with talking cats, magical people and fun. If you are not acquainted with this magical place I strongly recommend starting. There is no time like the present when we are all staying home, and no time like the present to read something fun and uplifting.
Charly Redbird is a life coach who refuses to give a millionaire’s daughter a certificate she did not earn. Doing the right thing got her blackballed and she lost her company and her confidence. She chose to go to see her grandmother who is living at the Feline Fine Retirement Home in Cat’s Paw Cove, Florida, and if you are familiar with this series then I don’t have to say anymore. She has hired real estate agent Dylan Graham, an empath and a man with the ability to touch someone and tell if they are supernatural, other than that he has no real powers.
Dylan shows Charly a house no one would even consider since it is across the street from a cemetery, but it comes totally furnished and has everything needed. Charly jumps at the chance to own this home she calls Furever Home not knowing that the cemetery across the street is not the only problem with this house.
Charly learns about some of her abilities, one of which is seeing ghosts, and one turns out to be her very first client. She and Dylan are very attracted to each other, but there are things about her life she is about to discover that will change everything she ever knew.
A wonderful story filled with amazing characters and a series I can’t recommend enough.
I found Taken by the Imp to be a fun and enjoyable read. The story moves quickly, there is lots of dialogue between the characters, and it captures the reader’s attention instantly.
The story takes place in the magical town of Cat’s Paw Cove which is inhabited by both human and feline supernaturals. Dexter, the main character, who is a telepath who prefers to live isolated from the rest of the world, is encouraged by a distant relative to travel to Cat’s Paw Cove to visit his brother. Here he finds quite the cast of characters. Not only are the town’s residents unique and mystical, but in some cases quite amusing! Although hesitant to engage with the locals, there is one person in particular, Ynez, who captures his attention, and his heart. Little does he know how much his life is about to change.
This story is a charming tale filled with characters who relate to one another with fondness and compassion, as well as members of their overall community. The author’s use of magic and mystery and playful paranormal romance between Ynez and Dexter, helps keep the reader engaged and anxious to follow to the end.
I give Taken by the Imp 5 stars and highly recommend it. Romance, humor, charm and family secrets, what’s not to like! So grab your favorite drink, settle in your favorite chair and allow yourself to escape to the magical town of Cat’s Paw Cove.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. As a note, this does not affect my opinion in any way. Overall: 4.5/5 stars Characters: 4/5 stars Setting: 4.5/5 stars Writing: 5/5 stars Plot: 5/5 stars
Note: This book can be read as a standalone. (This is how I read it and the plot was very easy to pick up) Millionaire Dexter Graham hasn't left his house in years. Why? He is a powerful and impressive telepath and being in crowded places (where he can hear everyone's thoughts) makes it very overwhelming for him therefore he prefers being secluded. Until he encounters his grandma's ghost who encourages him to visit his brother at Cat's Paw Cove where he meets Ynez - an imp(a type of genie) - whose thoughts Dexter cannot hear which makes feel comfortable around her. Cat's Paw Cove is a place dominated by different magical creatures, including imps, talking cats, jinnis, leprechauns and plenty of other. Despite the abundance of magical creatures, the author does a great job of guiding you through the story without creating much confusion, thus offering the reader a great quick escapade. If you are a reader who prefers reading books in one sitting then "Taken by the Imp" is a perfect choice. You'll be amazed at how engaging and quick reading this book is!
Dexter is a recluse - not by choice mind you But necessity - See he can hear 👂 your every thought Everyone's thoughts And as you can imagine it's enough to drive a man insane 😵 But never you fear Grandma has returned to set things right
Ynez is a queen 👑 in the kitchen it's how she shares her love 💘 She has such a giving ❤ heart and she has found that food is a great way to share comfort and hope When she discovers the inns newest resident needs a helping hand Well she's all in Doesn't hurt he's uber-sexy and almost childlike in his lust for life
As things click between them everything else begins to unravel Can Dexter find a way to quiet the voices? What's the brownie up too? Are all grandma's this good at keeping secrets?
The answers to those questions and so much more await you here in Cat's Paw cove Come on in don't be shy
I received this eARC from Net Galley in exchange for an honest opinion
Cute short read that had a bit of everything in it. Romance, magic, Jinni's, talking cats...yes talking cats, leprechauns, evil and more. Dexter is a telepath and a recluse who is told by his dead grandmother to go visit his brother Dylan who is an empath. There he meets Ynes a Jinni when she brings him his food. Dexter is not able to be around others as he is not able to stop hearing their thoughts but he is not able to hear Ynes and when he is with her he is able to focus on only those thoughts he wants to read. But Ynes' grandmother is hiding a secret. One that puts Ynes in danger. This is the first book I have read by this author and so am not aware of the other books in what appears to be a long series however I felt like I was reading a standalone and I am interested in reading more about this series. I had a few laugh out loud moments with the characters and although there were multiple characters you still know that Dexter and Ynes were the main characters. The book only took me a few hours to read and I enjoyed it
Taken By The Imp is the 13th book in the Cat’s Paw Cove Series. This is a cute fast read and a great way to spend a Saturday. It is a follow up to book 12 introducing Big D’s brother, Dexter. It He is a multi-millionaire, a powerful telepath and can’t leave the home his grandmother left him due to being overwhelmed by everyone’s thoughts. He is visited by his deceased grandmother and encouraged to go to Cat’s Paw Cove on a mission. Ynez is Madame Jinniyah granddaughter and the chef at the retirement home. She is a jinniyah and has big dreams. She is also the only one Dexter can be around without hearing her thoughts. Can these two help each other?
I usually read dark stories full of angst. Until I find a book like Taken by the Imp, I forget how much my spirit needs light and breezy fun, too. This is mostly the story of Ynez, the talented chef, and Dexter, the empath recluse. They both find their way to Cat's Paw Cove for very different reasons. The truly magical denizens of this delightful community help them along their journeys. The village feline population is much more than furry companions! There are so many interesting characters in this book that it spawns so many more happy and mysterious times to read about in this collection of books. I've already read my second offering by this author!
Telepath, Dexter journies to Cat's Paw to visit his brother, Dylan, at the urging of the ghost of his grandmother. She tells him there a family secret that only his brother has the key to discovering it. Cat's Paw is full of magical folk and Dylan hopes there is someone who may be able to help his brother silence the voices he hears as an telpath. A local Chef, Ynez who is also a jinni seems to have the powers to slient the voices for Dexter. Dexter is smitten. Ynez cooks like a dream, is beautful, intriguing and can block the voices for him. A town full of magical folk, family sercrets, a mysterous stranger and blooming love mixes together into a winning recipes for a delightful read.
This is my first book by this author. Dexter was a private person and didn't get out of the house much. He liked the quiet and didn't want to be around others. Ynez is the chef at Cat's Paw and is very happy in her life the way it is. Then Dexter's brother invites him for a stay and once they met they find out a bunch of secrets neither thought they would ever share.
This is the first book I've read within this series. Even though later in the series, not having read the prior books, did not deter from this story in any way. It was a cute, fun, quick read, with some giggles and supernatural characters.
This highly enjoyable novel by Sharon Buchbinder had me laughing out loud! This book was very easy to read as a stand-alone, but also works well as an addition to the series. This wonderful short romance was well written, and had a great plot.
Loved this book ! Characters were quirky and lovable. Story was fun with magic, talking cats and of course romance. Fun read with characters that stay with you! Take a day trip to Cats Paw Cove you won’t be sorry.
It's another great read by Miss Sharon Buchbinder in the continued series within " Cat Paw Cove". I loved the details of the family's past and the building love of the characters.
Love this one - full of all you want in a paranormal romantic comedy. Loved the intriguing characters and how their stories unfolded. Found it one that was hard to put down till finish and became totally immersed in their lives.
I loved as I loved all the other installment in this series. Fun to read, entertaining and engrossing. An easy and enjoyable read, highly recommended. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
This was a fun fast paced story with great characters of romance and mystery in a magical Town of supernatural characters with talking cats Yes!!! You want a fun story that's different then welcome to Cats Paw Cove you will not be dissappointed.
This is a fun read. I like how characters from past Cat’s Paw Cove books reappear in this one. And Sharon Buchbinder always manages to come up with a different twist on the paranormal world. This isn’t a long story page wise but it has plenty of depth and kept me reading
I read this as a standalone by receiving an ARC from netgalley.
This was a cute read for everyone who likes to relax a little by reading a guaranteed HEA with a town full of cats (both normal and magical), jinni's quirky and magically varied people and cute characters.
Basically, it was cloud cute sparkles land sprinkled with time travel, witch hunt, secret boxes, other dimension spies, family and how to deal with a power that has continually been a major source of incovinience in your life.
It was well-written and everyone is already all so emotionally mature and agreable.
A perfect relaxing read for this quarantine!
Would love to check out the previous books in the series.
Thank you Net galley for the ARC and miss Sharon Buchbinder for the good story!
