Andrea Merchak

Andrea Merchak has been passionate about the horror genre since she was 4–5 years old and snuck out of her bedroom to see the horror films her father watched. An avid reader, as a teenager she read a book by Stephen King and got hooked into the Universe of Horror. Despite her background as a journalist, she never imagined that one day she would become an author. She thought, and still thinks, that authors are singularly gifted people who are able to take their readers to extraordinary, exotic worlds beyond imagination. Because she thought she could never join their ranks, she was reluctant when her sister suggested she should write a book – and surprised when she found out she could do it just as well as some of her favorite authors. Long story short, today Andrea wonders why it took her so long to realize her true calling. Her stories are pure, graphic, vicious horror that stays with the reader long after they finish reading.

Bloody Puzzle (Bloody Series Book 2) by Andrea Merchak is even better than the first one.
WARNING: These stories contain extreme violence against people and animals, vulgar language, sex, and graphic murders.
Dr Cooper is back and this time he takes serial killing to an all new high. No longer content with his reenactments of "Urban Legends", Daniel sets out to prove he is better than law enforcement by creating a puzzle for detectives to catch him (if they can) before he commits his next murder.
This time not only is the reader tasked with solving the puzzle laid out by a brilliant psychopath, but we also get a better understanding of who Dr Daniel Cooper the serial killer is and what it is that drives him.
I found it quite (to use Daniel's word) "exhilarating" to see how realistic the author's creation of Dr Cooper is. The research that went into this character alone is worthy the price of the book. From his childhood, following to adulthood his development is believable and strangely sympathetic as forces around him shape and mold the killer he is to become.
Once again Andrea Merchak deftly builds a mysterious puzzle wrapped around murders that defies explanation despite that the pieces of the puzzle are in the readers face and their connections quite obvious (on reflection that is). The skill with which the author develops these crimes and the puzzles around them is artful to say the least.
Like an old friend or a good neighbor, the characters stay in form, just as we know them in the last book they remain in this book. Despite the heightened case and desperation in getting the killer before he kills again the detectives feel familiar as they work through the newest of Cooper's game.
All in all this is a great read that promise not to be an end to the adventures of a serial killer and the detectives tasked with stopping him.

This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series!
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable.
Great suspense and action with that adds so much to the story.
Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down.
Can't wait to read more of these.
Recommend reading.

In Daniel, the psychotic, narcissistic, sociopathic, egotistical and arrogant monster (I think that sums the guy up), Merchak has created a character so vicious and blood-thirsty, this one is definitely not for the faint of heart.

The book zooms along from one gory crime scene to another at a good pace and some of the dark murders are fantastically graphic and disturbing, enhancing an already unsettling scene.

Personally, I would have enjoyed a bit more depth from the main copper, Zach Evans. He's a solid character and well drawn out. He's also the cop who Daniel regards as his archenemy (if you like)
but he would benefit greatly from more of a back story.

However, this is not much of a quibble, and all-in-all Bloody Puzzle is a fun and energetic read which will keep you up until the wee hours and then make you hesitant to turn off the light.

A thrilling sequel!

Dr. Daniel Cooper lives a double life and prides himself on not raising suspicions about his crimes. Bold, seductive, and insatiable, the doctor enjoys taking ever more risks in a game where he provides just enough clues to draw attention to him, while at the same time misleading the task force that is on his trail in hopes of stopping the maniac who is terrorizing an entire city.
First, he used urban legends as inspirations in executing each murder. Now, the serial killer has conceived a new method of choosing his victims, creating a new enigma. The detectives will need to unravel each clue, and try to prevent more deaths and capture the murderer before he kills again. But the cruel doctor does not intend to make it easy for them.

Well, I was not prepared for Bloody Puzzle. I've read the reviews, I though that I knew what the general vibe of the book was -boy, was I wrong!

This, dear fellow readers, is a masterfully written, bone-chilling, gruesome and extremely graphic serial killer thriller. I can keep pilling adjectives in an attempt to describe this book, but I don't think it'll help - you'll have to read it to believe it. Therefore there will be no spoilers in this review, I'm just going to once again warn you - if you're new to the genre, prepare your psyche.

I really want to read the other books from the series, but to be honest - I need a bit of a break before that.

A narcissistic serial killer flaunts his IQ by leaving obscure clues with each victim.
Here’s a killer with a diabolic plan, taunting police and FBI with his snobby “theme” of clues based on a little-known, advanced theorem. His kills are frequent, obviously torturing his victims with his trusty Ka-Bar knife. The name of the book is entirely apropos, and the horror grows with each kill. If you have a strong stomach, you’ll find this book spellbinding.
I received a read-and-review copy of this book, and my voluntary, honest opinion is that it’s a great dive into terror.

In this second book our favorite murderer goes on to find another theme for his crimes. This time a very creative puzzle for the detectives to crack.
The way he plays with them goes to new highs (I mean really!), and we are constantly on our toes to see when he will finally make his first mistake.
We have more cool characters in this book and a bit more context for our killer that is also a healthy doctor.
I really recommend this serie, though it may not be for the faint of heart. Still, it's so worth it!

One cringeworthy tale! The sadistic and seemingly unstoppable serial killer in this story will keep you up at night, for sure, just as he did in BLOODY LEGENDS. And this one has some more interesting twists, engaging characters, and a very clever puzzle for the detectives to try to solve. If you like edgy horror and thriller-type tales that make you want to hide under your bed, this one is well worth the price of admission.

This is the first book I have read by Andrea Merchak, but it won't be the last. She is a great writer. I now need to read #1 in this series. This book was very well-written and truly kept my attention. In fact, I could not put it down. Finished it within one day!
