可能是Lane所有書裡面涉面最廣的一本，從ATP、DNA等等開始，講到性、複雜生命的演化歷史。邏輯很像「复杂生命的起源」，但寫得其實沒那麼好（想用一本書講完自己的理論，但有點弄巧成拙）。打二星是為了勸退：這本翻譯得極差，別看到ent的名字就買了。我也沒想到ent會有這麼差的翻譯。「这颗星球有史以来第一次，我们知道了。」「⋯⋯演化的最伟大发明。」這真的不像是ent的手筆啊⋯⋯想看Lane的理論的話可以看「复杂生命的起源」，會有意思得多。
