Her Sweet Alpha

Rate this book
Alpha werewolf Dade Stone is closing in on his thirtieth birthday. He's in dire need of his true mate. And then he finds her--only she's human. Dade has never been with a human. He's too big and too scary. His animal side wants to claim his mate now, but he knows she needs time to adjust to the idea of becoming his mate.

Halle Fielding is working as a waitress when a large stranger claims she's his mate and that she's going to marry him and give birth to his pups. Pups! He actually said pups! She's sure there's some mistake. She's human, and with his yellow eyes and sharp teeth, he's clearly not. If only he weren't so sexy….

2.0⭐️ Well, if you love Alpha wolf shifter books with frequent rough sex with very little plot, this book is for you. I love shifter books, all kinds of shifters. I’ve read many. I expect sexual encounters, sometimes frequent and/or rough, sometimes not. I also like alpha men whether they are shifter or not.

Why then am I so ambivalent about this book? On the plus side, I loved the main characters and their interactions with friends and families. Dade’s loyalty was commendable, but I sometimes disliked his tendency to be too overbearing and high-handed. I loved Halle’s strength and intelligence, and I adored her wise and feisty grandmother. Dade’s parents, brother, as well as the pack were warm and accepting of Halle. That was an unexpected and delightful aspect of the book that resonated with me. The sexual build-up was well done, and the sex between Dade and Halle was explosive, no doubt about it.

On the other hand, where in the hell was the plot? Sex, sex, incessant sex, WITHOUT A PLOT is simply a book about two people f****ing. Had I wanted that, I could have my pick of any number of very well-written, purely erotic books. But, that’s NOT what I wanted to read at this time. This is a major flaw.

Having no plot, coupled with the annoying editing problems (e. g., writing dinner instead of diner repeatedly) made this book a decidedly unsuccessful and an ineffectual offering for me. I could have been paying bills instead!!

I hope the next book I do read by this author will be substantially better and much more entertaining (i. e., an interesting plot, major editing fixes and less gratuitous sex). Accordingly, I will feel like I put my valuable time to good use (and I could put off paying those pesky bills a little longer). 🥴

n.b.: I have read some of Ms Thayer’s books previously without major complaint. Please do better for your readers and fans Ms. Thayer.

description

Loved reading "Her Sweet Alpha" by Thayer King!

As alpha of his pack, Dade Stone was waiting to find his true mate and when he did, it happened right on time -- several months before his 30th birthday. His mate was a kind waitress named Halle Daniels who worked at Millie's restaurant in town.

This story was engaging with Dade's mate being a human! I was glad that his family and pack members accepted her so easily... but there was a little tension with Dade's stalker, Mina and Halle's ex, Lamar! Also, this tale was a fun and at times funny read and Thayer gave a few creative twists concerning werewolves!

As usual Thayer King doesn't disappoint. I rated the book 4 stars because Mina disappeared for quite a while in the story and I expected her to stir up trouble before Dade and Halle got together. Plus, I felt Mina had other nefarious motivations for returning to the pack. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

werewolf H human h/small town/ spicy/OP drama

Cute story I skipped through some but overall enjoyed it. Had some good alpha werewolf possessive moments when he first meets his mate.
-Werewolf H: is an alpha and almost impotent. If a shifter hasn’t taken a mate by 30 they become sick and die I THINK but they lose their libido slowly up to then. He isn’t wanting to settle for anyone but his true mate. His family has a construction company and while out of town on a job stops as a little diner where his waitress turns out to be our h, his mate.
-human h: waitress in a small town. Independent and smart
-OM/OW drama: OM- ex of the h. He cheated when he left for college and if now basically married with kids to someone else and her he constantly acts like the h is still in love with him. She doesn’t encourage him at all. He just can’t see how she’s not into him. H shuts him down a few times but sadly it’s never violent lol. OW- this is a she wolf whose just a skank wanting to be mated to an alpha for the status. She keeps trying to come on to H but he’s not interested at all and gives her no hope. She’s still trying stuff throughout the book and h shuts her down at the end.
-spicy this book when it has smexy times js spicy. There’s biting of course, some shoving it back in and lots of doggie style lol.
-HEA

It was cute. Not amazing. I’m not mad I bought it but if I had read it on KU first I probably wouldn’t have bought it. No interest in reading anyone from this series. I was told this was JP … there is possessive moments but they aren’t really part of the meat of the story and this is not JP to me at all. Like 2 possessive word exchanges doesn’t make a possessive H to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Trope ridden sadly - no stretch in the plot or characters. Se has a art degree, but of course works in a diner, and the usual pestering by an ex. Nothing new here. The huge H works in construction and he's Alpha. He's sweet I guess, with the h anyway. His family is inappropriately sweet. Too sweet for me.

Cute

Not bad, I’m really not into the whole werewolf/shape shifter phenomenon, but I like this author and this book was good. Nice ,quick, romantic read.

Dade Stone, the Alpha of his pack, is nearing his 30th year and he needs to find is mate. The problem is, he's not to motivated to do so. He's become used to the status quo and to him, if he find her perfect, if he doesn't , oh well. Good thing fate has other plans.
Halle Fielding has been disappointed in the love department and is really not looking to make the same mistake more than once. When she meets Dade she notices his big sexy body, but she notices something else about him and she's not sure she can accept that something else. Too bad or maybe good for her Dade doesn't take no for an answer.
Dade and Halle are really sweet together and their story is just as sweet with scorching hot love scenes. There is a little trouble with an Ex who can't seem to let go, and the delusional wanna be mate who can't believe they were not the chosen one. But don't let the Sweet Alpha fool you because Dade will allow nothing and no one to come between what he deems as his and Halle, when she finds her footing, is no wilting flower either. So if you're looking for a sweet read with a little drama you should pick up Sweet Alpha.

Mediocre

This book has no conflict. The main characters met, there was a small amount of wooing, a couple people were jealous for a few pages, and there was a ton of graphic sex.

The protagonists had no trouble merging their lives. The characters do not grow as people. The jealous people were a complete non-issue. The dialogue was stilted and boring.

I gave it two stars because I only one-star books I don't finish. This was a waste of money.

Great read

I did not want this sweet story to end. I'm glad the H/h found each other. I hope this becomes a series and we learn more about the pack and especially, Dade and his mate.

The story started good and had an interesting take than other shifter romances that I've read. I couldn't stand how spineless the FMC Halle was. She let everyone walk all over her, but then she claimed to be Miss Independent to the point where she was cutting off her nose to spite her face. She had selective outrage: outraged that Dade fixed her car when she said she'd handle it herself, but strangely not freaking out that two of his pack members stole her keys and made copies of them for her protection. And this was in the same conversation; it wasn't two separate incidences.

Halle allowed her cousin and her cousin's friend Cookie to crash her first date with Dade when he came over to cook for her. Cookie was flirting crazy hard with Dade, and Halle didn't do anything but bumble along in the kitchen and passive-aggressively bump into Cookie here and there. Cookie was asking inappropriate questions at dinner like if werewolves liked it doggy style and still Halle sat there like a fucking bump on the log. I wished I could say that was the end of Cookie's OTT flirting, but then Cookie told Halle to her face that she couldn't handle a man like Dade and she should give him up because a man like that liked rough sex. What does Halle do? Just tells her cousin and Cookie that it's time for them to go and quietly escorts them out the door.

Not on my fucking watch. Cookie would've gotten crumbled bc wtf?

I'm also upset that Halle's cousin Missy didn't check her friend enough for her friend's behavior.

This was a low angst, short, steamy, small town, interracial, werewolf/human romance with a lower key alpha werewolf guy. I did enjoy reading a lot of it but it wasn’t that interesting and I almost felt like I didn’t need to finish it when I only had like 20 pages left because the story parts that I cared about were all wrapped up by then. It was cute and had an interesting werewolf mythology and I appreciated that the alpha was not a billionaire and the heroine was a waitress so very normal people as the stars of the story. I also like that although he came on strong at the very start, he was willing to be sweet and patient with her while she adjusted to the idea of being his mate. It was also cool that werewolves had only recently come out into the open and this story takes place shortly after humans are aware of their existence. Made me think of True Blood in that aspect and with the heroine being a small town waitress. It has some drama with an ex and a woman who really wanted to be the alpha’s mate and tries to sabotage their relationship so if you don’t like those elements in a story, know that that is one of the main issues in the book and I would pass on this one if that is not something you like to read. It is, however, not overwhelmingly done most of the time and is even satisfyingly handled in other instances. If you need a low angst, short werewolf romance read, give this a try.

——ALMOST READS LIKE AN EROTICA.

SYNOPSIS :

Alpha Dade is almost 30 and hasn’t found his mate yet and he’s very happy when he does only to realise she’s human.

CHARACTERS :

Both the characters were great if not more on the platonic side but still not bad.

I loved Dade’s relationship with his family and also how he tried to take things slow with Halle was adorable.

Halle on the other hand stayed true to her character of being the confused and completely taken of guard human girl whose been claimed as mate to some alpha. I liked how she didn’t immediately cave in just because he was handsome and seemed to be caring for her.

ROMANCE :

The romance was everywhere since the only thing going on was them opening up and then claiming each other then fucking fucking and more fucking. So yeah I did not completely mind the frequent sex cuz their chemistry was so good and in fact found myself having fun.

4/5 on the spice scale 🌶️

REVIEW :

3 stars —— It read more like a erotica due to the frequency of the sex and little to no plot and tbh we all came here for the plot so kinda disappointed on that part however I did enjoy this one and had a fun time reading it.

RECOMMENDATION :

Yes if you like werewolf sex ;)

There was a lot I liked about this shifter romance but it was a bit uneven in some aspects. However, I enjoyed reading it!

The FMC (Halle) is a Black woman in a small town, working for a cafe where she meets the white MMC (Dade) who is from a neighboring town. In true shifter fashion, it is a case of one sniff and he fell head over tail (lololol). The existence of shifters had only recently been discovered so humans were intrigued but leery of the weres. Dade, for the most part, was sweet. He wanted to care for Halle and have a life with her. Both MC's had supportive families.

What fell short was some of the characterizations of the "bad" characters from Halle's past. These characters essentially exist to uphold Halle as "not like other girls". Also, as is common within paranormal romance, the alpha urge to be all like, "YOU WILL BE MINE SO I AM GOING TO TELL YOU WHAT TO DO" did pop up. Overall, Dade wanted Halle to choose him but he also had an entitlement mindset that doesn't always work for me.

CW's: explicit sex, biting, cheating (FMC has ex's that had cheated on her), primal play

The Best Book I have read thus far

I'm so thrilled that Halle's grandmother convinced her to give into her doubts of being with Dade. It was destined for her to be with him and him with her. Time had passed and neither of them were any close to ever being with anyone else. So it only made since that a magnet of fate brought him into that restaurant and for Halle to end of at his corner to wait on him. I could definitely place myself into this book when I was reading it, laughing and frowning when Halle was letting everyone get into her head about werewolves and how she finally can stand up for herself and her family being the Alpha female. They will have an enjoyable life together. Even though I know this is fictional, I would trade in a day to be in Halle's shoes. To always be wanted and shown that want for the rest of her life I envy a love like that. So overall rating this book deserves more stars than was given. Can't wait to read more books

If this book was walking down a catwalk in a fashion competition I would have to label it as safe. Not something that's eye catching, exciting, or even memorable. It coasted in the mildly entertaining medium. The main characters were likeable, the hero wasn't an overbearing douche, though he did have moments where he overrode Halle's wishes under the guise of her being his "mate" and therefore he knew what was best for her. There is a lot of sex in the book, much of it I happily skipped. Reading about someone being pounded like an actual animal makes my vagina curl up. Lovely. There were some typos and grammatical mistakes, but other than that, this was a simple read. Not much happened in the way of plot. Though the climax very much went out with a whimper rather than a bang. Having read two other of this author's books, I will say this one balanced the main characters getting to know one another before the sex much better, so points for that!

Nobody ever likes describing people...lol

This is the first book I've read by this author. I really likes this book. But...it took me getting almost through chapter 7 to realize that Halle was black. The author clued you in to the fact that her cousin, Missy, was black but that doesn't mean anything. I'm black. My family is huge and predominantly black but we also have white relatives. I'm black with brown hair. My sister has black hair. Hair color is racially color blind. You can't expect people to know from the bare descriptions in this story. Curvy, black hair and brown eyes doesn't equate black person. So a little bit of heads up would have made it so I didn't have to revamp my images and voices of characters half way through the story...lol. All in all, it was a good read and I really recommend this.

3.5 stars rounded up for GR

Short, sweet, werewolf shifter romance. Dade is approaching 30 years old, where if he doesn't have a mate by then he will be impotent for the rest of his life. Halle is a small town waitress with a d-bag ex-boyfriend who quilts and isn't looking for a man. When Dade smells that she is his mate, her life is turned upside down!

I liked how Dade, after his growly Alpha announcement that she was HIS, gave her time to get used to the idea. I mean how is she supposed to just walk away from her life and accept being turned into a werewolf and have his pups right on the spot. He didn't force and I appreciated that. The sexy times between them were hot, he was demanding and rough but still sweet and concerned with her pleasure.

I saw the villians coming but liked how Halle was the one to save the day.

My favourite kind of hero is when they're sweet and attentive but still dominant and JP and Dade was exactly like that!!

Obviously the book is too short for any kind of deep character development, but I really liked the characters and loved their connection. Despite Dade wanting to be with his mate immediately, he gave her three weeks to adjust to the idea while they talked on the phone every night and formed a connection.

The world building was also not like any other shifter book I've read (I haven't read many so this might be more normal than I thought). Humans are able to become shifters as well if their mate bites her during coupling.

The sex scenes were hot, so much scratching and biting 🥵🥵. And don't even get me started on the OM and OW drama, I loooooved it. Particularly how uninterested both H and h were in OW and OM 👀😏.

Re-read

For me Ms. King can be hit or miss but this book is a favorite. Instead of getting new books, I am going through my extensive kindle library and revisiting some of my old favorites. Her Sweet Alpha is one of the first shifter books I read and it is exactly that....sweet. The lore about shifters changes from book to book. Here Dade is almost thirty and he has not found his true mate; this situation renders him almost an eunuch. Unexpectedly, he encounters local waitress Halle and in front of God and everyone declares that she is his mate. In the story, shifters and humans exist together for the most part peacefully. His job now is to woo and convince her that he is her mate. He does so nicely and sweetly.
