I was wondering if Ezra will have his own story the first time I met him. Then, I met a charming doctor Monroe, then bam! They have a story after all.
The Promise is one of those story with the parents I will hate even in real life. Parents who "knows" what's the best for their children. Familiar with that? Yeah, yeah, hope not tour parents though.
Because, if I was Ezra or Monroe, I won't be that forgiving.
Though I was a little disappointed with how little Ezra and Monroe's efforts, they were

How do you reconnect with the only person you ever really loved? Decades may have passed but Ezra still dreams of his first crush Monroe. Ezra moving away to LA from New York as a teenager devastated the young men and they lost contact. Ezra wrote but there was no answer. Ezra is baffled as to why Roe is so angry when he tries to see him again and is shocked to find his former lover is bitter and hostile when he attempts to initiate a reunion. More surprising to Ezra is when Roe

Family Hurts

Felice Stevens has taken a very big chance here. She brings us Monroe (Roe) Friedman and Ezra Green, a couple of 40-year-olds who were "Nice Jewish Boy" teenage lovers before Ezra had to leave New York City to go with his hard-charging parents to a new life representing models, actors, and other industry bigwigs, in Los Angeles.

While they promised to stay in touch until Ezra graduated from high school, something went wrong along the way to the point that their dreams of a life

The Promise by Felice Stevens is a childhood sweethearts, second chance romance. One of favorite tropes. Gotta love all the angst! Well, Felice did not hold back! She made me feel all the love and pain that Enza and Monroe
continued to endure years past their relationship.
The push and pull had me in knots!

At the tender age of 17, Ezra's family decided to move from New York to California. Leaving him and his boyfriend, Monroe devastated but hopeful. Although the distance would be hard,

How? How does Felice write such incredible, interesting, romantic stories? There's so much depth and range of emotions in her storytelling, plus some of the romantic lines you'll ever read and authentic portrayals of New York City, its cultural depth and sense of community. Oh, and I can't forget! I love, love, love Felice's side characters. They add so much to the main characters and the story itself. You'll see some familiar faces in The Promise!

This book hits hard in the emotional department.

If you like second chance romance, this one is for you.

Ezra and Roe have plenty of history to overcome. Getting over feelings of loss, betrayal and abandonment won't be easy for Roe, but Ezra is determined to show the man he's loved all his life that he means to keep the promise he made so long ago. But first, he needs to figure out just why Roe is so angry, considering Roe is the one who cut off contact all those years ago. Meanwhile Roe, who still finds Ezra as irresistible as he did

Ezra moved back to New York City after twenty-plus years on the west coast. When he finally gets a chance to talk to Monroe, his childhood friend, he's baffled by the hostile response he receives. Monroe missed his best friend Ezra all the years he was gone, but he now just focuses on his family and career. When Ezra tries to talk with him, he is determined to stay away and avoid any more hurt.

Thank goodness that both Ezra and Monroe have so many good people in their lives to be

The Promise, the second book in the Lost in New York series, is a riveting second chance romance by Felice Stevens. With this gem, the author once again reminds me of why I love her writing. Having not read the first book, I can assure you that this is easily read as a standalone.

Former boyfriends Ezra and Monroe are two men who are full of anger and pain, with years of distance and resentment between them. Upon being reunited after many years, the tension is high, and it's a great read.

The Promise is a second chance, enemies to lovers romance that will warm your heart. Its also considered a fake boyfriend story, but these guys want so badly to be together again that they arent faking it at all. Ezra and Monroe were high school sweethearts who were separated when Ezras family moved across the country. They promise to stay in touch and come back to each other after college. Unfortunately that doesnt happen, and when they meet up again after more than twenty years, Roe isnt ready ...more

The Promise is the second book in the Lost in New York series by the talented Felice Stevens. I am loving this series and Felice's writing and I was very excited to know that Monroe was getting a book and with Ezra! These secondary characters from other books stole my heart and I loved them together. They were in love as teenagers and separated when Ezra and his family moved. They lost touch but neither of them knows why the other stopped writing. They never forgot each other and now Ezra is ...more

This was an emotional second chance romance that gave me all the feels. Roe was the leader of the Lost in New York grief counseling group, who we met in Fool for Love; and Ezra was the talent agent friend to Ross in Running from My Heart. These two men needed to find love and happiness, and they both deserved good things in life. Well, it turns out that Roe and Ezra were high school lovers, separated for two decades but still hurt and missing each other. Though they were each successful as ...more

I'm a sucker for childhood sweethearts so Ezra and Monroe's book, sign me up.

Unfortunately, these guys have some major baggage and things started off pretty volatile between them. I knew it came from how hurt they felt and I wanted to shake them and make them talk things out. Every time one of them walked away, I shook my kindle and yelled at them to go back.

But the hurt was deep and one conversation wasn't going to fix it.

Thankfully the universe kept throwing them together. And when their

I loved Monroe and Ezras story. Their second-chance romance was worth their hard fought HEA. They each had such loss and hurt they carried with themselves over their failed relationship at 17. I think more hurt than either realized as they reconnected over 20 years later. I loved Ezraa passion and determination to win Roe back. In turn, Roe was so supportive to Ezra when it felt like his life was turned upside down. Roes patience with Ezras overbearing parents was admirable. I also loved Roes ...more

Why? Why does she do this to me? Felice Stevens rips little pieces of my heart and then slowly puts it back together. And I love every second of it. Gosh, Monroe and Ezra's journey was so heartbreaking. I cried so many times from the emotional pain and from the sweet tender moments and memories.

Of course like with any book from this author, I devoured this in one sitting. I so love this author's writing and the ever present emotion, passion and chemistry you could expect in

A promise between 2 young lovers is a promise of the heart never meant to be broken. But Ezra and Roe (Monroe) never suspected subterfuge could interfere. Step ahead 23 years and friends to lovers to enemies now exist but now hope is born. We, as the reader, learn both POV so we are frustrated by the lack of reasoning, understanding, and insight both men possess and we just want to shake sense into both of these so-called adults. Neither is willing to take the first step to reconciliation but ...more

In real life the world is upside down right now. An avid reader, I have found it very difficult to concentrate on any one thing. When one of my favorite authors puts out a new book I know I will be pulled right out of my reading funk.

The Promise is such a beautifully written, emotional story. Roe and Ezra will capture your heart. This story is full of the promise of second chances. With both your soulmate and your family. I loved that these men are both 40 and rediscovering the lost love of

Felice Stevens has captured my attention again with a love story between two, long lost loves that reconnect after being apart for most of their lives. Sometimes it's hard to forget your first true love and in this case, Monroe and Ezra had unfinished business. Nothing warms my heart more than a second chance.

Seeing Ezra in New York again was the last thing Monroe expected. Monroe's insecurities where Ezra was concerned bubbled to the surface so his reception towards Ezra was quite chilly. While

My first Felice Stevens read, and I am glad I took the chance on this book. I loved that the characters are in their 40's. I always find it refreshing to read characters later in their life and not just 20 somethings. Also, the story takes off right from the beginning. Even though there are a handful of flashbacks, they're not long drawn out scenes. The book is living in the present, and we didn't have chapters and chapters of build-up. I enjoy a more fast-paced story, and The Promise delivered. ...more

I found this extremely boring. The MC were too old for me to believe they didn t get past their first love for eachother. I like second chance stories but not when that is the only plot. The whole book is ab what they felt 20 years ago and who was more at fault for their loosing touch. Ezra's parents were equally ridiculous, the dialog between them 4 when Ezra's parents showed up to explain was so immature. A 40 year old adult? I felt like Ezra was in his 20s.

This is the second book in the Lost in NY series and I loved it. Its a second chance romance between Ezra and Monroe.

They made a promise when they were in high school that they would be together and reunite after high school as Ezra was being loved across the country away from Monroe. Unfortunately, that promise gets broken.

23 years later when they reunite, feelings are so hurt and the guys are so confused over what happened that kept them apart for all this time.

The two MC's are introduced from Running From My Heart & Fool For Love.
Young love lost, time changes who you are, how can you put yourself back in their orbit without fear of being hurt again. This story is one of finding who you are, who's worth fighting for and finally reconnecting with your person, even if it takes awhile. Communication is always key but sometimes the ball is dropped.
Really enjoyed the cameos from previous characters, it always adds depth to the story and I also love

They say the path of true love never runs smoothly and, in the case of Ezra and Monroe, it is so true!
This is the second book in the "Lost In New York" series and, just like book one, both guys have flaws, both guys have suffered, but, not all the suffering is at the hands of authors.
What I absolutely loved about these guys is that while Ezra doesn't really have any family close by that he's close to, Roe does. He has his mum and Grandma, Nettie! She is such a

This reunion between Ezra and Monroe is fill with so much resentment and hurt feelings due a misunderstanding, I really hate Ezras parents. Every time they see each other instead of talking they start hurting one another other and I was so sad for them, you can see that they still in love. If you enjoy second-chance romance then this book is definitely for you. This first book in this series was quite emotional and this one is a rollercoaster of emotions too. It is heartwarming that Ezra and Monroe found their way back to each other after so much time had passed but heartbreaking that they couldn't continue their teenage romance at the time. Nonetheless, their connection persisted and made for a beautiful love-filled story between the two MCs. Ezra came across a bit arrogant and ...more

Young love is beautiful but it can also break your heart like nothing else.
Ezra and Monroe made a promise to each other.
Sadly, life and circumstances beyond their control lad to their separation and then time and distance widened the gap even further.
With the procession of time both men have suffered, especially Monroe who's still harboring a lot of anger and resentment towards Ezra.
So when Ezra shows up back in Monroe's life he's blindsided.
There's an emotional minefield for them to work

Did not enjoy

I tried but just could not getting this at all. For the majority of this it was both MC's having civil conversations with their respective friends but nothing but anger and miscommunication with each other....while they sleep with other people (off page). It creates a sense of unrest as a reader. Then when they kinda get together the dialog is EXTREMELY cheesy....his insides are silk and velvet and couldn't wait to pierce him. Do men really talk like that? Neither MC was likeable...

Wow! Felice has done it again, although that's no surprise. This book was absolutely amazing. It's impossible not to fall in love with Ezra & Monroe, and I loved seeing old friends from previous books as well. The story flows beautifully, and you won't want to put the book down. This is definitely one of my favorite books of Felice's!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily gave my honest review.

Wow... What a tearjerker! It was a terrific read. Ezra & Monroe both needed a butt kicking, so stubborn. When they finally talked it out my heart broke for them both & I was so angry at Ezra's parents... So there was some tears shed. When they finally gave into each other I was so happy & enjoyed reading the book way more. The ending was so good I didn't want the book to be over yet. A Must Read!

What a beautiful, grab-you-by-the-feels, fantastic, amazing, heartbreaking yet hopeful, wonderful, poignant, lovely, emotionally charged, engaging, made-me-shed-tears-of-both-sadness-and-joy, simmering, and totally awesome twist on the standard second chance at romance storyline. I was hooked from the very first page, and I would definitely recommend getting this marvelous gem ASAP!
