The characters in Asesina are dynamic. The author conveys their feelings and their backgrounds well and this helps us understand the motivations for their actions both good and bad. It was a nice change to follow the story of the female assassin who is intelligent, nimble and skilled with a gun. It was equally interesting to follow the actions of the greedy doctor.

Asesina is an incredible book for our era. It combines a woman who is an assassin, and also has a backstory; a surgeon, who is both funny and frightening in how hedonistic and flippant he is about the life and death of others, while wanting to protect his own life and make a fortune in the process; the greed of the modern day healthcare system; peripherally Gavin Newsom, now the man of the hour; and my favorite character, a Mexican police detective, the only nice guy in the novel.

I really enjoyed this novel! Much like another of my favorites “Inferno” by Author Dan Brown, who not only tells a great story but he makes you think about things actually going on in the world.
The story kept you captivated but at the same time Craig Keffeler’s attention to detail grabbed your imagination and helped you feel like you were actually walking in the shoes of the characters and visualizing everything they saw and experienced.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! For me, the key to a great book is the author's writing skills coupled with a genuine knowledge of the topic. If the details are not believable, no amount of good writing can rescue the plot. Keffeler's experience in the health care industry clearly led to believable details that were woven into a great storyline that kept me reading. I am looking forward to more great books from this author!

A smart, well crafted thriller. Amazing attention to detail. Easy for me to suspend reality and be sucked into the the lives, times and locations vividly described by Keffeler in his exciting debut novel. It's hard to imaging the amount of time that must have gone into research to enable the detailed, realistic pictures created by his words.

I read the ARC and this novel was excellent. I loved Angel, the asesina, a very modern, clever, athletic killer. I will certainly order this book for our library. I'm glad NetGalley forwarded the advanced copy to me. I have a lot of time to read at home and finished this novel in two days. Great ending.

I received a promotional online copy from a friend at our local newspaper who thought I might enjoy it. She was right. I identified with the main character, Angel, who was very independent and together. The author, Keffeler, keeps the plot moving and creates a thoughtful, realistic conclusion. I'm glad I read the novel and I highly recommend it.

Via my work, I received an advanced trade copy of this novel from the publisher. Really superb writing for a debut novelist. It's a different take on medical/healthcare thrillers that I thoroughly enjoyed. Worth reading especially in today's political times.

Gonzo is stuck on the couch. Got advanced copy from publisher--finally a chica who rocks. First fifty pages grab your ass but don't know why the publisher has distribution throughout States and Europe but nothing in Mexico and Latin America. Book needs to be translated in Spanish. Juarez scene is very hot. Read this rag.

Incredibly timely novel. Great characters. The plot moves nicely. The author obviously knows healthcare. I was pulled into the book by how California implements Medicare-For-All, which is fascinating. Definitely recommend to anyone who wants to make a change in our system. Great binge reading while stuck at home.

4.8 out of 5. I was emailed an ARC from the publisher. So I read this book last week. Keffeler really knows Juarez and cartel history. I like novels that move and this one does. Dialogue is very real starting in the first twenty pages. Great modern novel. It also gave me something to do while I was stuck inside.

This is a gripping tale that gives you a peek into the minds of some very unsavory characters as well into that of at least one good guy who has the odds stacked against him. The author seems very familiar with medical care administration, and many of the subplots deal with this aspect of the story- where the politics and hidden agendas seem more bloody than the operating table. The action takes place California and in the desert Southwest on both sides of the border, and seem true-to-life. The

Received this debut novel as a holiday gift--truly outstanding! Five stars. Quick-paced and exciting, very contemporary with a cast of interesting characters. Well-thought out ending. Loved Angel, the asesina. She's believable and breaks several stereotypes. I look forward to Keffeler's next novel. I recommend this book.

I have absolutely nothing against this book. It is not badly written, the story seems to be going somewhere, and it hits the ground running. These things will please many thriller readers. It just isn't a book for me. I am not a fan of thrillers and I like to know why characters do the things they do or I lose interest. The author has not supplied much of that two and a half chapters in, so I am moving on. I hope that the target readership finds this book for I know many people who enjoy the dis
