When Sarah Gooding returned a valuable brooch to the elderly Dowager Countess of Densbury, she had no idea it would lead to a job as the lively woman's companion. Nor did she expect to admire the Dowager's youngest grandson so much, even though the difference in their stations means nothing will ever come of her daydreams.

From my previous review of The Christmas Heirloom: Four Holiday Novellas of Love Through the Generations

The Christmas Heirloom is a beautiful collection of heartwarming stories filled with the spirit of Christmas!

I love the idea behind this novella collection! Four authors who each write in very different styles and equally different time periods joined together to write one story that spans generations. The execution was flawless and each author took special care in making sure her story ble

Legacy of Love by Kristi Ann Hunter is one of four novellas in the Christmas Heirloom collection by four well-known Christian authors. It is a finalist in the Christy Awards for the 2018 season.
The first scene showcases Ms. Hunter’s stunning sense of humor and her quirky heroine, Sarah Gooding. Sarah is a companion to Countess Densbury. It is her duty to do the Lady’s bidding including playing the piano for the family’s weekly dinner. However, Sarah has a habit of speaking her mind which someti

There is nothing I do not love about this novella. Despite the small number of pages, the story feels well-rounded and satisfying. I can easily re-read anything that Kristi Ann publishes and this is a perfect one to get lost in for an hour or two.
Sarah is a minor character in the Haven Manor series. It's great to see the life of one of the children once they're grown and on their own.

Grown-up foster child Sarah Gooding once did The Dowager Countess of Densbury a huge favor finding her most prized possession, a large amethyst brooch she had lost in the snow. This resulted in securing her a position as the countess’ companion. One of the tasks of this job is accompanying the countess to the weekly dinner with her family. During the event she sits behind the piano hidden from view playing music to entertain the family. Sarah dislikes them all, save for one, Randall Everard who ...more

“And if it’s all the same to you, I’d rather not be one half of a tragic love story.”

Such delightful, witty, and satisfying Regency romance from Kristi Ann Hunter. This clever novella can be read in one sitting and can be read as a stand-alone (and fans of the Haven Manor series will adore this “extra” storyline).
Sarah and Randall, though born into different stations in life, are very similar in that neither of them has any claim unless they choose to stake a claim in life and work hard for it.

For a novella, this story packed so much importance into every word that the pace flowed naturally and didn’t feel rushed at all. Add in a physically ailing but mentally sharp matchmaking grandmother with two young people who feel left out on the edge of their respective worlds, and you’ve got a heartwarming, poignant tale of familial and romantic love that is sure to lift your spirits. Although this could be considered book # 1.5 in the Haven Manor series, it can definitely be read as a stand-a ...more

I loved Sarah and Randall's story. His Grandma was wonderful. She had such spunk. I really liked her character. I loved the little nudge she gave Randall that finally allowed him and Sarah to start building a relationship together. I was surprised how the story ended, but it seemed perfect.

A short & tender story of love and selflessness. A story of what is most important in life. A story of what can happen when one relies on God and tries to follow His leading. No sex or profanity. ...more

I know it'd be short and the romance quick. I really liked the grandmother and really liked Sarah.
Also, this should be book #2.5 at least. I haven't read book #3, so maybe it should be #3.5.

loved this sweet novella and all of Kristi Ann's books. I do wish publishers wouldn't push them to do novellas all the time, I believe a lot of these stories would be amazing more fleshed out with more details, and then the leap from hardly knowing someone to being in love doesn't seem quite so drastic or unbelievable. With that being said I think Kristi Ann Hunter does a great job bridging this gap and making the story believable while keeping the characters true to form. I have never been disa ...more

...more

Kristi Ann Hunter has added, Legacy of Love, a second novella to her Haven Manor series. When Sarah Gooding performs a kind deed for the elderly Dowager Countess of Densbury, she soon finds herself with a new job to perform: companion to this sweet woman!

In the midst of Sarah's duties, she crosses paths with the Dowager's youngest grandson, Randall Everand. Sarah finds it hard to keep her thoughts and eyes off this handsome young man; however, she does not feel like she is on the same financial

Enchanting! Adorable! Hilarious! Swoon-worthy! Kristi Ann Hunter is one of my all time favorite Regency writers. Her spunk and heart come through in her characters so vividly. Heroine Sarah Gooding is the companion of the Dowager Countess Densbury and starts off in a family scene playing the piano and dreaming of cake. Keeping her strong opinions to herself is complicated but makes for genuinely funny moments. Randall Everard is the grandson of the Dowager and he is so charming and romantic. The ...more

This is a wonderful start to the collection of novellas that follows a brooch through several generations. There was some laugh out loud humor, a matchmaking grandma, and the challenge of feelings between two people in different stations. This novella is included in The Christmas Heirloom, but can be purchased and read on its own.

Loved it!

When I first started reading this story, I thought it was a little strange. I’m glad I decided to continue reading. It was short, but sweet and can’t wait to read the next one!
