Cruel Black Hearts #4

Vile Wicked Eyes

Rate this book
My name is Stella. I used to be empty, broken, a shell of a person watching as days passed me by.

But then I found out the truth. What I’d done. What I wanted to do again. My three killers took me and shook my world upside-down, stopping only when I faced the fact that I was just like them.

A brute. A monster. A beast with an innate craving to make others bleed.

The family takes us in, but the road to acceptance won’t be easy. Obstacles will be thrown in our way. The one in charge of the family might not want me to join the Scotts’ legacy, but I will. I’ll become one of them, no matter what it takes, regardless of what I have to do.

The Scotts have never met a butcher like me.

**This is a dark RH romance, featuring a cast of familiar characters. There is violence, there is blood, and there are a lot of steamy scenes, so read at your own risk. Vile Wicked Eyes takes place after the original trilogy, but before the epilogue in the third book. Think of this as an extended epilogue, of a sort. 50k words. There are also ties to Sins and Hillcrest.**

Hey guys! I'm a writer, an office worker, a wife, a mother to two dogs and two cats, and half of a strange pair of young adults who flip the houses they're living in with the goal of having no mortgage (so that I can eventually focus on my writing career!). Needless to say, I'm busy.

Still, I somehow find time to write, to read, and to enjoy life. Wish there were more hours in the day, really!

If you're active on Goodreads and have similar interests, friend me. I don't bite. Or if you'd rather follow my reviews, you can do that, too.

Happy reading!

Minus one star because this has my absolute most hated trope ever! But I still really enjoyed being back in this world with these psycho characters. It was really interesting seeing the different series come together in a way and it was fun seeing them again too. Just wish that one thing didn’t happen then I’d have given it 5 stars.

Epilogue to the CBH trilogy - Very dark RH

I absofreakinglutely love this whole series and these crazy characters. Yes, it's RH and it's probably my favorite series in that genre or at least in the top three! ;)

Trigger warning! Lots of blood, sex, violence, gore, torture, bondage, and a whole lot of crazy. It's a serial killer romance where all the guys and leading lady are homicidal maniacs. There is no redemption arc here, so use caution when reading.

This book takes place before the epilogue in the third book. The story is about how (spoilers if you haven't read the other three books)...
.

.
.
... Stella gets her name as The Butcher and how the guys find out, and how she finds out, she's pregnant.

It's utterly perfect! I love this author's mind and all her books!

Ughhh, I’m sad it’s over. This is definitely not usually my type of book .While I love horror I am not usually into trashy sex books. Having said that, there was something about the characters in this book namely Lincoln, that I literally fell in love with. I could not get enough of him. The rest of the characters were whatever but he was amazing.
The basic synopsis of the whole series is a girl meets these two guys that are psycho killers and I really have no other caring for any other human. They really seem to only care about each other in a platonic way. She meets them and they instantly fall for her to the point where there is no other girl in the world for them but her. She then feels the same way about them then are all together. Then enters a serial killer who she also falls for. Can’t tell you much more beyond that but they are very much into violence And sex.
There are extremely graphic scenes of torture and mutilation so if you are sensitive to that don’t read. I was a little disappointed in this book because I felt like there wasn’t much of a story in it, I felt she was just trying to wrap up the story to be done with it. Either way I love reading about the guys, especially Lincoln. I hope she writes a story of just Lincoln and his backstory or some stories of him while he goes off away from “the family“. PLEASE MORE LINCOLN.

Oh and one last thing, there was one kind of big glaring Pothole, wasn’t Lincoln a cop? No one ever questioned why the cop just disappeared at the very same time that Stella and the Angelmaker did? They all lived in the same city, they were seen at a bar together. Just wondering why it was never mentioned again about him being a police officer.

Evil perfection

I will never, ever get enough of this universe, EVER. Revisiting Stella, Edward, Lincoln and Killian is such a welcome reprieve in this tumultuous times of quarantine. The author not only managed to give us a very extended epilogue of the Cruel Black Hearts series, she also seamlessly ties into her other related series. And I even have a feeling we'll be seeing more of other characters soon. Again, this book is NOT for the faint of heart, the author doesn't pull any punches when it comes to graphic details. But for those of you that loved the Hillcrest and Cruel Black Hearts series, this will be just perfect!

I loved returning to this world. I can't get enough. This book felt like it flew right by because I was so engrossed in it. I love all the cross-overs from Candace's other three series. Two are out already and one is still in the works. I never thought I would love something so dark but I do. This book is awesome and I hope there is another one after it.

A much needed return to Stella and her serial killers!!

I loved the series with Stella and her serial killers but I am so happy the author decided to make a novella (even though this was much longer than a usual novella which made it 10x better). My favorite part about this book is all the cameos of the different characters that either have their own series set in the same world or who could potentially have their own (Markus????).

The book focuses mainly on Stella and her men adjusting to life with The Family which is new for Stella and one of her men. There is a little more information given about exactly how The Family works and how Stella eventually earns her title.

I loved the opportunity to be able to come back to these characters and get a more detailed epilogue. I cannot wait to read more from Candace and this huge and complex world she has created with serial killers and psychopaths!!

Dark, sexy, and fun.

This is such a dark but super hot series. As awful as serial killers are you can't help but be fascinated by them. I love how each of the authors series tie into each other but you can read each series individually. But I do recommend reading each book in said series in order.

Omg read this

This whole series and the ones connected to it (hill crest and sins) are phenomenal. This world is twisted and dark and glorious. This is not for the easily triggered. If that is not a problem then dive into this twisted world by Candace. Bravo girl!🥰

This book picks up right where the last book left off. We get to see Stella meet the family. We also get to see familiar faces like Travis and Marcus which was great!
I love this series I can’t get enough of Stella and her guys. They are all going to have to adjust to living in the family more so Stella and Killian as they are going to have to earn the family’s trust in order to join them and become apart of the family . I love how Candace has crossed over series with Travis from Hillcrest am a fan of Travis , Lincoln and Markus I must have a thing for the Scott brother.
You will not be disappointed in reading this book it was amazing and I need more of Stella and her guy. If you have not grabbed your copy yet, go get it now!

Good... until the end.

If you like dark and graphic this is definitely the book for you. This book had me on a roller-coaster of emotions in the best way and if I stopped after book 3 I would have given this series a 5 but the 4th book felt like a throw away. Instead of wrapping up the series it left me confused and wanting to know what happened. There were suddenly a lot of questions left unanswered. I'm sure she was trying to set her self up to lead us into another series but it felt so unfinished and I hate that.

So this is the last book of the series.

As conclusions go.... Its a little disappointing, sadly. There's no big reveal. No emotional climax. No "wow" factor. No extra info to fill any gaps..

It was basically telling us how their lives was going to be from now on.

Edward has been selected to go work in the kitchen thanks to his talent. Lincoln and killian are first put on clean up in the basement but then moved up to kills. But as killian is still going to be recognised his kills are always in house, and Lincoln goes on "hunts".

As for Stella? Due to her mental health, Marcus puts her on rest for a long time. Which fair play to him, is the right thing to do, despite her not being too happy about it! But slowly she gets little mini torture jobs, she gets to watch thru the windows (with Marcus curious at how she reacts).

We meet Travis here (who if you continue to read the authors books, will recognise from HU) and it's here she starts to really enjoy chopping parts of a body off.

After all this.... She finally gets put to work. It's not long before she gets her own moniker...."The Butcher". No surprise there really!

What was a surprise.... The birth control pills she believed she was on....? Nope. That was part of her hallucinations. So this then comes as no surprise that with all the sex shes pregnant.
The reactions of everyone is a little interesting.

What is wierd is where the ending of the book is. It feels like it should be a little more.... But it then suddenly jumps to an epilogue of 7yrs later.

So. They all get away with murder. Literally! The Angel Maker is never found, nor is Stella. But she keeps a very close eye on her family - especially her sister.

Their relationship stays just as strong. They're a family in their own right. Lincoln still hates that ginger but I think it's with more of a fondness by now!

I'm not sure how else it could have ended really. We wouldn't have wanted any of them caught or killed I guess, so this is the only way it could have happily ended.

With the Hillcrest uni due to be the next on her list to be read its very different I think to this, but I'm taking a small break to go into a pnr and will be back!

Death had always been this mystical, magical thing to me, and I grew up wondering what it felt like to die. It had to be thrilling, didn’t it?
.
.
Stella used to be empty, broken a shell of a person until she found out her truth. What she had done and what she couldn’t wait to do it again. Her three killer boyfriends turned her life upside down and making her face that she was like them, a monster. The family took them in, put them to work, obstacles will be thrown up them, will they make it together or will it all fall apart?

I can’t lie this has to be my favourite out of this series, I think it could of had been book 1, 3 and this book and think it would of flowed a lot better. I enjoyed meeting the family and it was really good to see a different dynamic between everyone, I will have to say Stella was a lot more easier to like in this book and she didn’t come across half as annoying. Although, Lincoln has been my favourite character throughout this whole series, I loved his personality and the amount of banter he brought to the table.

I would give this whole series a 3 out of 5 stars, I think it had potential however, it just wasn’t for me and I think it just didn’t hit the mark.

I love how this book went back and picked up with Stella and the guys beginning their new life with the family, and especially the fact that it covered her pregnancy which we totally missed out on with the epilogue in the last book. I was disappointed with that in the last book, so this made me happy. Seeing each of the guys reactions too was fun. I enjoyed getting to see how Stella works her way into the family business, and I hope we get to see even more as this ending was just not enough.

Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. It's dark, it's depraved, it's completely f*$&ed up, and I love it!! Sometimes we just need that kind of story, and this one really goes deep and messy.

I also think the writing itself has gotten a bit better. Not that it was bad at all, but I had noted a great deal of repetition in previous books which can become a little grating. I didn't notice it nearly so much, not enough so to pull you out of the story as it occasionally had for me previously.

I don't know if there are any future stories planned for Stella, Ed, Lincoln, and Killian, but I certainly hope so.

A New Beginning

After the mess left back home, the gang of killers are holed up in Lincoln's family estate, where a whole new world of wonders await Stella. This family is unlike any family she's ever known. But, there's a price to be paid...in blood.

Well, this is the end of the series and it's been a wild adventure. Though the subject matter is rather gory, when I got to book 3, I think I'd acclimated to all the disturbing subject matter. That being said, the part that scared me the most is in the idea that our brains can trick us into seeing things that aren't real, whether it's from a chronic mental disorder or a breakdown or drug usage. Made me wonder about when people see ghosts or ufos. Could their brains be playing tricks on them? Or is all of this a giant simulation?

And on that note, I'll bid you farewell. This was a crazy series. I'm happy to have read it for entertainment, but more for the opportunity to see the ideas that run through Candace Wondrak's imagination. Amazing!

I have been in a reading slump for almost 2 months. I have been reading but not nearly as much as I usually do. I somehow lost the inspiration to read and was STRUGGLING to get through books, even though they were great books.

This series just cured me.

DARK, why choose romance. These books are twisted, depraved, and filthy. AND I LOVED EVERY PART OF IT. I was hooked a couple chapters into the first book. My jaw was actually dropped at so many different parts and I had to put down my kindle multiple times and think about what I just read. There’s so many scenes where I had to sit there and be like WTF.

10/10 would recommend 😅 If you are a dark romance lover, PLEASE go read this series. It’s so freaking good and you will not be disappointed. I read all 4 books in two days. Could not put them down. Check triggers though because there are A LOT. This series is not for the faint-hearted.

Wow Wow!!!!!

I'm sure some might read these books and not finish. I am not one of them. I cringe and I'm sure I make the most animated facial expressions that one would make when visiting these topics on a show on Investigative discovery true crime shows. However these books, in this series, are so much better and darker. This has moments where I was laughing because of the dynamic between Stella and her men. If you read the first three then you need to read this last book before reading the next series. I'm hooked on Candice's books because they're so well written. It's got some very very gory scenes in this one so prepare yourself. It's off to another series of hers for me!

I am in awe!!

I am left in awe of this series and I am only on last b book or is it?.I have become a great lover of Candace Wondrak work but this is something else. I never knew I like dark dark theme quite this much. All I know is these characters and story has drawn me in . I am honestly captivated Stella and her unique darkness. An men are just obsessively dominating and flaming hot. I need more about these characters, because no one does cliffhanger like Candace, an I am lucky because this series linked and closely connected to Sins and Hillcrest series. An with the ways this end I honestly think we have more learnt from Stella and her men.

What a conclusion

So technically this wasn’t the conclusion to the series but more of a gap between the technical end of the last book before we read the epilogue. It definitely explained why she’s the butcher. And what her life was like before we got the glimpse of seven years in the future.

It also set the stage for at least three more Scott stories if I’m to be correct on my assumption. We shall see if they are more messed up then this gang.

Definitely a different read all together. Possible triggers if you don’t like death, blood, gore, torture, murder etc.

I found this series intriguing.

I was going through my shelf and was surprised I honestly forgot about this book. Strange since I made sure to read the others. This story took place between what happened after they fled back to the family and the epilogue. No new info really. Just about Stella finding acceptance from Marcus. Liked that I got a glimpse of Travis (my favorite psycho) and what happened to the guy that attacked Ash. The steamy parts were very well written and the torture scenes quite graphic. I'm disappointed we weren't shown Stella and the guys adjusting to parenthood. Feels like the story ended before the best part.

Premise for The Desecration of Innocence

This book is the premise for the start of The Desecration of Innocence series. Stella moves into Markus' mansion with her men. Killian - The Angel Maker serial killer has been on the news on TV along with a picture of Stella's face. They are going to have to stay low for awhile. The others are introduced to the basement but Stella wants an in too. So Markus plays her some CDs to watch of previous kills. Travis allows Stella to help with one of his kills, then she gets her own and is crowned The Butcher. Something happens to change all of their lives forever. Hot read.

Fantastic series 🤩

I don't think I can praise this series enough. It is so freaking good I love everything about it.

This book picks up right at the end of the last book and we get to see Stella meet the family. We get to see familiar faces like Travis and Marcus.

We get to see how each character adjusts to joining their families and how exactly she became known as the butcher 🔪

Not much story going on, really just felt like set-up for other books with how all of these Scott men are just introduced.

Had to skim the gory bits bc HNGHHHH that's a lot of detail, but checks out for these characters. Somehow it doesn't feel in keeping with these characters for Stella to not , but oh well it comes with the territory of RH I guess.

This book was everything I didn’t know I needed in life. This series is one of my favorites, I have read it at least 5 times so having this follow up, a follow up that tied into other books was absolutely beautiful in a dark twisted form of perfection. I couldn’t put it down. I love love love Stella, I couldn’t read it fast enough and hated when it ended.

Another hit

One would never think blood and sex could be so hot!! But Candace strikes again!! I enjoyed this book probably more than the first 3. And I loved the Cameo from Travis and the way their timeline's crossed ! I definitely hope there is more because there is just so so much more I need to know!!!

Great addition to an amazing series

I really like the addition of this book to Stella's story while it also brought most of the books in this world together. The Scott family is kinda crazy and I really love the world they created for themselves, hopefully we get more of this family in the future (mainly mister head man himself).
