Is this a trilogy or something? Because I need more of these brothers. Logan Williams is perfect, but Harrison? Oh man, he has my heart. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I have always wanted to read a mashup of romance and thriller. I didn’t know what to expect since I’m primarily a romance reader, but the concept has me completely intrigued.

Though I did enjoy some parts of this book, I did have a lot of problems with this story. I wanted more from Julianne, but she fell short in every possible way. She’s a smart resident in a competitive field, but has no common sense. She is flighty with personal decisions, indecisive when it comes to her heart, and not the st I have always wanted to read a mashup of romance and thriller. I didn’t know what to expect since I’m primarily a romance reader, but the concept has me completely intrigued.

Though I did enjoy some parts of this book, I did have a lot of problems with this story. I wanted more from Julianne, but she fell short in every possible way. She’s a smart resident in a competitive field, but has no common sense. She is flighty with personal decisions, indecisive when it comes to her heart, and not the strong heroine I was hoping for her to be. I had a lot of trouble with the way the author did the love triangle and how it poorly portrayed Julianne. I didn’t like how she would claim to like one brother over the other to just then go and make out with the brother she claims she saw as a friend. I understand that feelings are muddled but I felt like this whole situation could have been handled a lot better.

The mystery/thriller aspect of this story is also disappointing. I love the mystery that pulls you in the moment you start reading. Everything seems to be a clue of what’s to come. In the beginning, I was interested to see where this story would go and I was instantly drawn into this world. Once I got in, I didn’t like how everything played out. I felt like the author was grasping for this box office movie scenario, but ended up delivering a Lifetime movie. I found myself becoming more discouraged as I continued to read and not wanting to continue.

There are times where third person narrative could enhance a story, but then there are times where it causes a disconnect with the reader. This was the case for this book. At first I enjoyed the third person narrative. I thought it enchanted the “mystery” part of the story, but as I read on, I felt myself distancing myself from these characters and story. It made it hard to connect with them when every scene was irritating me and I couldn’t get more of an explanation of why or how a character acted a certain way or what their inner thoughts were during certain scenes. There was a lot of miscommunication that could have been better done if this story was done in first person.

I wished for more from this book and I wanted so badly to love it, but this was not meant for me. The writing was choppy and didn’t have a flow to it that made it easy to read or follow, the story was interesting in theory but fell short in execution, and the characters were not the multifaceted people I was expecting. Instead they were monotone and flat.

I was captivated by the story from the start. A young resident, Julianne, tries to strictly separate work from her private life. This was a fantastic debut novel by Jamie Everlee. I really enjoyed the running group aspect of this book. It definitely made me want to find my love for running again and join a group for the encouragement and support (yes even while I was reading about runners going missing). This was a fun page turner! I really liked how the mystery of the missing runners unfolded. This is a light-hearted, action, love-triangle rom-com. Flew through it in a day. It reminded me of the Reece Witherspoon movie This Means War.

The only thing I wish I had more of was character development, but I think part of that was to keep me guessing.

REVIEW: Holy suspenseful romance! This debut novel by @jamieeverlee had action, romance, and a love triangle that kept me turning the page to see what happens next. I'm sorry I really tried but this book was not for me. Do you know when you're in a bookstore and you read the first few pages to see if you want to but the book? Does it connect with me? Does it flow? Is it interesting? For me these questions could all be answered by a single word. No.
