AMAZON

When Natalie has a sexy reunion with her high school boyfriend, world famous rockstar, Brennan, on New Year's Eve, she knows it'll be just a temporary one night kind of thing. So imagine her surprise when it lasts a bit longer than that. Alas, he has to get back to his life, and so does she. Will their lives ever intersect again?

This is a sweet, sexy second chance novella. I loved Nat and Brennan together. He may be a rockstar but he's no womanizer, he's just a regular guy who happens to have an extraordinary talent, and Nat is the sweetheart who only loved him for him, not for his superstar status.

After having read and loved this one, I'm really excited for the next installment of The Dating Series.

A Date for Midnight is Book 1 in 'The Dating Series' by Heidi McLaughlin and L.P. Dover. This series is a collection of standalone novellas that I stumbled upon on Amazon since I've never read a book from either of these authors.

The blurb is pretty self-explanatory, this is a cute second chance romance set on New Year's Eve. Since it is just 90 odd pages everything that happens is quick and sexy with minimal or zero angst with a happy ending.

As it is a novella, I can't expect for much but I would have appreciated one extra chapter to tie in that ending and some more space for Brennan and Natalie's spark to shine through.

2.5 - 3 Stars!

Brennan is a famous Rockstar who reunites with his first love when he finds himself temporarily back in his hometown. There are many things that he likes about his career but the media scrutiny and having to wonder if people want to be with him for him or for what he can do for them is not part of it.

After her divorce Natalie isn’t looking for love or a relationship but when she and Brennan reunite the chemistry between them is stronger than ever. When their relationship ended it wasn’t because they didn’t love each other but will this be their second chance or are their different dreams for the future too much to overcome?

Sweet and sexy I enjoyed watching the relationship unfold between them as they determine what is really important in their lives.

I didn't know this a novella... or sort of. I didn't read the details, just the blurb. When I saw it was from two of my fave authors, I signed up right away.

This was a short, swoony and fun second chance romance. I totally enjoyed it and read it in one sitting.

Rock star Brennan McLean is unable to return to NY bc of a snowstorm and is forced to spend the next couple of days in Boston. But instead of staying at his parents house, he decides to go to his friend Jordan’s party. On the way he stops at a grocery store to buy beer and there he meets his high school girlfriend Natalie. It turns out that both of them are going to celebrate the New Year with their respective friends, and coincidentally, both parties are held in the same building.
When they meet again, the feelings of the past return and both decide to leave the parties and go together to Natalie’s house where they spend the next 2 days having mind blowing sex. But duty calls and they have to separate again.
He and Nat keep in touch by phone, but when Nat sees him in the internet with another woman, she decides that it is better to remember their short time together and leave it there, but Brennan is not going to let her slip away again.

My heart skips a beat. It’s been years since I’ve seen him. Brennan McLean. I knew him as my high school boyfriend, but the world knows him as a superstar. I never thought I’d see him again, certainly not after he rose to fame. Letting him go all those years ago was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. But, he needed to follow his dreams, and they all came true for him.

Natalie O’Brien was my high school sweetheart and the one I let slip through my fingers. We wanted, and it seems, achieved different dreams. Our relationship started when we were sixteen. It was during the summer leading into our junior year of high school. We’d known each other for a while and hung out with the same crowd, although I was a bit of a music geek back in those days. But that summer, the one where Natalie came with her friends . . . it was life changing. I knew from the moment I tripped over the amp cord and busted my knee open she was my angel. When you’re eighteen, you shouldn’t have to face life altering decisions. I wanted to, but never asked Natalie to come with me to Los Angeles. She wanted college and never asked me to go with her. Back then, maybe I would’ve. Ask me today, and the answer is yes. I would’ve followed her anywhere knowing what I know now. Life’s funny that way.

I can’t help but smile back. “Tell me it won’t work. Tell me I’m being stupid and thinking about her is going to get me nowhere. Tell me I shouldn’t text her.”“Nah, man. Look around.” He turns me toward the living room. “You have your pick of pussy. Each one guaranteed not to call you the next day, not to hound you with memories from high school. We’ve moved on, man. Gotta leave the past in the past and welcome in the new year with someone you don’t have to remember the name of in the morning.” I don’t agree with him. “You want what you lost, is that it?” I shrug. “Maybe. Or maybe I want to spend a couple of hours with someone I know I have a connection with. What’s wrong with that?” “Nothing, man. I will never understand your emo moody ass, but the women dig ya. Go get Natalie, bring her up here. I want to see what ten years has done to her.” With that, I walk out of the apartment, down the hall and to the elevator . . . and wait.

“You know what? I think you should go to him. It’s New Year’s for goodness sake. Think of it like Las Vegas. What happens on New Year’s, stays on New Year’s. What do you have to lose?”“I don’t think I can,” I say. Emerson grabs my shoulders and squeezes. “Yes, you can. If you don’t, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life. You might never get this opportunity again? He’s upstairs right now.” She shakes me. “Go to him, Natalie.”I blow out a nervous breath and stand. “Okay, I’m going. Wish me luck.”Heart racing, I shut my eyes as the elevator comes to a stop and the doors open. The second I open my eyes, my heart stops completely. Standing right in front of me is Brennan looking just as surprised as I am. “Brennan,” I breathe. “What are you doing?” He smirks. “I could ask you the same thing.”

Everyone around us starts counting down, ten . . . nine . . . eight . . . seven . . . six . . . five . . . four . . . three . . two . . . I turn her around in my arms, cup her face and press my lips to hers. It’s the first time, in a long time, I’ve wanted a New Year’s kiss, and I’m so thankful it’s with Natalie.

A Date For Midnight is the first novel in The Dating Series by Heidi McLaughlin and L.P. Dover. The second chance romance is short and sweet. I'd call this one a novella given there are only nine chapters.

Brennan McLean craves the anonymity he used to have before he became a superstar. Being in the music business makes one realize, your days of trusting are long gone. Now Brennan is back home and after a huge snowstorm hits, it looks like he's staying home for the new year.

Newly divorced Natalie is ready to pick up the pieces and start her life over again. So imagine her surprise when she runs into her high school boyfriend, Brennan, at the local grocery store. Fate has a funny way of intervening.

My Thoughts:

Over the past few years I have quickly become a fan of second chance romances and I have to say, Natalie and Brennan's romance takes the cake! This romance is just as sexy as it is sweet. I couldn't get enough.

I loved the fact that Brennan and Natalie were high school sweethearts. But as they were growing closer to graduation, they realized their dreams and goals were leading them on two different journeys. Brennan wanted to reach for the stars and sing his songs while Natalie wanted to help people and save lives. So with two different career paths, they ended their relationship on good terms. Now A chance encounter forces Natalie and Brennan to meet face to face once more. I could feel the sparks and the heat between these two characters as they locked eyes for the first time in years. The connection was still there and I can assume was just as great as it's always been.

I loved Brennan and his need for freedom and a life away from the limelight and I loved Natalie and her need to feel the worth that she's capable of feeling. I loved how both characters were a bit jaded but as soon as they stood in each others presence those broken pieces started to mend again.

Overall, I loved A Date For Midnight, but if I'm being honest, I wanted so much more from this story. I would have loved to experience Brennan and Natalie's beginning years in high school. I wanted to feel that first time love they talked so highly about. I wanted the passion and the vulnerability that comes with first love. Basically, I wish this wasn't a novella. I wish we would have gotten a more in-depth version of Natalie and Brennan's story. There was so much potential for a novel from a novella that I really enjoyed.

3.75 stars— A DATE FOR MIDNIGHT is the first instalment in the contemporary, adult DATING erotic, romance novella series co-authored by Heidi McLaughlin and LP Dover. This is emergency room nurse Natalie O’Brien, and rock star Brennan McLean’s story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Natalie and Brennan) A DATE FOR MIDNIGHT follows West Coast rock star Brennan McLean as he is stranded in Boston for the New Year. A last minute party invite finds Brennan face to face with his high school sweet heart Natalie O’Brien, an ER nurse who is currently struggling with a direction in life. What ensues is the rebuilding romance between Natalie and Brennan, and the potential fall-out when Brennan’s time in Boston comes to a close.

Natalie O’Brien’s life fell apart one year earlier when she discovered her husband of two years having an affair. Fast forward to present day wherein all of Natalie’s friends are desperate for her to find her happily ever after but Natalie never expected to find Brennan McLean back in her hometown. A few days together, rekindling their relationship ends when Brennan must return to California, a return that results in potential betrayal to the woman with whom he is falling in love.

The relationship between Brennan and Natalie is one of second chances; a rekindling romance wherein Natalie falls for Brennan all over again, but gets her heart destroyed in the process. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

A DATE FOR MIDNIGHT is a quick read that covers a few days in the life of our leading couple; an erotic story of fun, friendship, celebration and love. The premise is captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are colorful and energetic. A DATE FOR MIDNIGHT is perfect for a lazy afternoon

4 Star Review of A Date For Midnight (The Dating Series #1) by Heidi McLaughlin & L.P.Dover
Both Heidi McLaughlin and L.P.Dover are relatively new to me; I have only read one book from each of them prior to this collaboration. This was an entertaining second chance at love story that kept my attention from the first to the last chapter.
Natalie and Brennan, high school sweethearts whose lives have gone in different directions, Natalie as a nurse and Brennan as a rock star. Two worlds that are so far apart it is impossible to think that they could have anything in common anymore.
However, fate works in mysterious ways and the chemistry that they once had is still there simmering between them. Could it be that easy? Could they pick up where they left off? Perhaps a one night stand? Or could this be the start of something more?

I really liked these characters, they were easy to relate to, these two were meant to be together and I really cheered for them to get their happily ever after.

A Date for Midnight is a short quick read. With a bunch of kids home from school right now I was worried about finding time to sit down and read a book, this so was the perfect length for me. Brennan is a sweet nice guy. He's a famous rock star and back in town for the holidays. Snow gets him stuck for more than we wanted to stay for. I liked that even though Brennan is a famous rock star, he's not really isn't a player. Him and Natalie once dated when they were in high school. There paths cross again while he's home. Natalie is a nurse. She's hardworking and a sweet girl. I liked these two together. This one is a nice sweet read.

A Date for Midnight (The Dating Series # 1) by: Heidi McLaughlin, L.P. Dover

McLaughlin and Dover give sex appeal a heart. Natalie and Brennan are a tempt that should not be missed. A Date for Midnight brings a touch of bad boy fantasy with a smidge of real world romance. Used to be lovers get a second chance to maybe get love right. Packed full of swoonworthy moments and heartaching angst, Mclaughlin and Dover put their best heart forward. These two talented authors are perfectly in tune when it comes to speaking the language of the heart.

I love Heidi's writing but this book was rather unbelievable. High school sweethearts who reunite years later and instant feelings after multiple hookups and all of a sudden they love each other and he can't live without her. Maybe if there was more of a story, more character development, I would have liked it more.

This is a super fun short read second chance romance. Its New Year's Eve and Brennan is supposed to be heading back to California but a snow storm ruins it but he's headed to meet a friend at a low key party. He runs into his high school sweetheart at the grocery store. These two have a insta connection all over again. There story is a little rocky once real life is back in force. Can't wait for the next one.

I really wasn't expecting the book to be as short as it was - just as it got going it was done. The characters grew on me by the end but it was all just a little too quick.
April 25, 2020
I've read this authors other co-written series and I loved that series a lot, so I was excited when they announced that they were writing more books together! I signed up for an ARC of this book and started reading it as soon as I received it! I also thought that this was going to be a full-length book, but it's actually a novella lol! This means that I read it in one sitting! I loved the speed of the plot and what happened in it! It was a very sweet read and There wasn't any action or suspense in the plot, which I wasn't expecting, but there was plenty of romance! I loved the way the romance developed and that it was all about the characters reconnecting years later! The romance allowed for a few seriously hot scenes too! The ending of this novella was also left at the perfect place, but it still left me wanting more lol! The characters were also amazing and made this novella even better! Natalie was the main female character, and I had a lot of respect for her in this book because she was a nurse and she worked hard and long hours! Natalie was also an easy character for me to connect with because there was something very likable about her! I loved that she got to reunite with the guy she really loved as well! Brennan was the main male character and love interest of Natalie! Brennan had made an amazing life and career for himself in this novella and he was a famous musician! Brennan wasn't that big-headed though, even though he was well-known and had money! I loved the way Brennan was with Natalie as well! She made him realise a lot about what was important in his life! It was easy to see that Brennan had deep feelings for and Natalie and wanted to be in a relationship with her! I loved that this novella was written from Natalie and Brennan's point of views! I was hoping that it was going to before I started reading and because of the way the synopsis is written! This novella being written from two authors also made me think that it would be written from duel point of view as well! It helped me connect more with Natalie and Brennan and see how they really felt about reconnecting and also being apart! It allowed more things to happen in the plot as well, which helped as the characters did spent some time apart and had their own situations going on! I now can't wait to read the next novella in this series! I know that it's going to be a complete standalone and not focus on any characters that make an appearance in this novella! This has me really excited to read it and find out what's going to happen in it! I know that the next novella releases next month, which isn't long of a wait at all! I'll definitely be reading it as soon as it releases! I also love the cover for this novella a lot and it would definitely draw me to it! I love how well it suits the feel of the novella and what happens in it as well! The cover image also suits the characters! Big thank you to L.P. Dover and Heidi for an ARC of A Date for Midnight!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

It's New Year's Eve and Natalie has a rare night off from her shifts at the hospital. Determined to have fun with friends, she stops at a local store for provisions. There, amongst the craft beer and pork rinds, she comes face to face with her high school boyfriend, Brennan McLean. He's a rockstar. She's a nurse. To say life led them in different directions would be putting it mildly. Still, time hasn't lessened the electric chemistry between them. By the end of the night more was dropping than just the ball. Convincing herself she could have fun without getting attached Natalie treats herself to a weekend tangled in the sheets with him. But that lie she told herself pops faster than champagne bubbles. With media rumors swirling around Brennaan, can the pair find a way to make their unlikely relationship work? Or will Natalie's resolution not to get her heart broken meet a painful end?

This is the first in a series of novellas from Heidi McLaughlin and L.P. Dover. This story is a second chance romance told in both characters point of view. This is the story of Natalie O'Brien, and her ex Brennan McLean. He is not a rockstar and she is an emergency room nurse. Two careers that are so far opposite each other that it wasn't even funny. However when he gets stuck in town and she runs into him on a rare night off the sparks are flying. Can these two get their second chance or are two many things stacked against them. This is a novella so it isn't a super long story but it is a complete one that you are going to fall in love with.

When Rockstar Brennan McLean found out he was stranded in his hometown of Boston for the new year, he reaches out to his best friend from high school to have somewhere to go for the celebrations. Imagine his surprise when he’s shopping for beer at a local store and runs into his first love Natalie. Natalie’s heading over to her best friends for the new year and stops at the local store to pick up more beer for her best friend’s husband and the rest of the partygoers. All she’s worried about is figuring out which kind to get from the shelves upon shelves in front of her. When she tries to look past where the bundled shopper happened to be trying to decide his choice, she gets a shock to realize it’s her first love, and now Rockstar Brennan.
The coincidence only intensifies when they discover they’re heading to the same building, but different parties. When Brennan asks for Natalie’s phone number, she never thought he would actually use it. But with her thoughts stuck on Brennan and their shared past, her friend encourages her to leave the party and see if she can’t find him.
After amazing weekend together, how will the two of them be able to sustain not only a long distance relationship, but the fact that Brennan is a superstar and is seen with other women all the time. Can the two of them figure out how to get things right and have a lasting relationship?
This is a fast burn romance that will heat up your kindle. With great writing, an intriguing premise, and wonderfully written characters. You’ll definitely want to read this story if you’re a fan of Rockstar romance, witty reads, and insta-fire in your romance.

Natalie's New Year's resolution is "to make better choices". After her divorce, she threw herself into her work and didn't have time for a social life, but her best friend, Emerson, has other plans for her.  So, Natalie is finally taking a night off as an ER nurse and attending Emerson's New Year's Eve party which includes meeting a blind date.  However, Natalie runs into her old high school boyfriend, Brennan McLean, who is now a superstar singer, and all the feelings she had for him years ago have resurfaced. Their meeting turns into a few days of hot sex until Brennan has to go back to California. Did she just make another bad choice?

On his way to a party, Brennan runs into Natalie. The beautiful girl he fell for in high school is now a beautiful woman and he realizes his feelings haven't changed for her. It is so refreshing to be with someone who knows him as a real person and not as a famous musician. But he has to return to California and he can't stop thinking of her.

This novella is a good start to a promising series. Brennan and Natalie are a great couple, but have their lives changed too much?  Will Natalie be able to deal with Brennan's showy life with promotions including fake girlfriends? Will Brennan be able to concentrate on his next album when all he thinks about is Natalie?  If you enjoy romance reunited, give this one a try.

Thank you to Ms. McLaughlin and Ms. Dover for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

A Date for Midnight is book 1 in the Dating Series written by Heidi McLaughlin and L.P.Dover and if this book is anything to go by this is going to be a series we will want to read.
Book 1 is a second chance romance for Natalie and Brennan who were high school sweethearts but their life have taken them to very directions, Natalie became a nurse and Brennan a rock star.....
The timing wasn’t right as teenagers but fate seems hell bent on pushing this couple together as adults and when they meet up they find the chemistry they shared as kids has now risen to a whole different level. The chemistry is sizzling but can they pick up where they left off ......
I loved the characters and I loved their story, I was drawn in from the first page and this entertaining read held my attention to the very last line. Looking forward to book 2 in the series.

A Date for Midnight is the first book in the dating series by Heidi and LP . This is a quick, sexy, fun read that introduces us to Natalie and Brennan . They were high school sweethearts that took totally different roads . Natalie followed her dream of working in the medical field. She is now a successful ER nurse working in a busy hospital in her hometown. Her job makes it difficult to date but she is constantly be set up by her wonderful friends .
Brennan was always musically inclined and his path was the road to rocker stardom . He is in the eye of the public but he is still the same warm, funny man that he always was and needs to feel real again.
A snowstorm, and chance meeting in a grocery store and the possibilities are endless for a second chance at the one that got away! Loved Natalie and Brennan and their try at second chances !!
