A mission-focused cyborg battles a captivating and dramatic distraction.
***
North, the second-in-command of a cyborg crew, has two priorities—he has to explore and collect data on Balazoid Minor, a small planet in their sector, and he must bring his three-being team back to the ship alive and fully functional.

When he encounters his brash, bravado-wielding female, the one being genetically designed for him, he recognizes her for what she is—a distraction that might get him and his brethren killed. He WILL claim her, but only on his terms, when his mission is complete and everyone he is responsible for protecting is safe.

Myrina the Magnificent is the best warrior on her planet and possibly the universe. She has captured an unparalleled fourteen males for her all-female tribe. Once she has secured the fifteenth male, she will be a legend. Her name will live forever. She’ll earn the undying adoration of her sisters. Glory will be hers.

The male in her sights—and in her snare—is a huge, gray-skinned, blue-eyed cyborg with a skill for war and lips designed for kissing. One emotionally charged battle is all it takes for Myrina to realize she wants North for herself. She won’t share his caresses with anyone.

Their forbidden love might be destined to be, but it won’t be easy to maintain. Myrina will have to fight her sisters, an all-powerful male-eating plant, and her cyborg’s unbending will to make North hers and hers alone.

Great characters including a sentient plant named Steve!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🖤💜💖
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌎
Character development: 😟🤭😤☺️🥰

The Hero: North - he is a D model cyborg and is second in command on his warship. He is military through and through, from his polished boots to his pristine uniform and posture. He is an example to the rest of the men on the space exploration mission. He was a bit emotionally damaged when the men didn’t include him in their conversations, but that was more about his position than his personality. Though since the captain found his mate, he hasn’t been communicating with North as much either. Their mission was to document the details of every planet in the cyborg-controlled sector. The Planet they were exploring next was Balazoid Minor.

The heroine: Myrina the Magnificent - her tribe was all females and she was a Dreck. A Dreck is a genetic deviation within the Balazoid warriors. Dreck’s were easily notifiable by their soft hair rather than tentacle-like verme on their skulls. Dreck’s were not allowed to procreate, so Myrina decided if she couldn’t have love, she would have the adulation of her people. The female warriors in the tribe would often go out in search of males to capture and return to the tribe for breeding. Myrina had already captured more than all other females and finding one more would be the icing on the cake and put her in the history books.

The Story: - North was leading a three-man team to catalog the planet. He chose Truth and Dissent to join him and they landed on the planet. Their exploration mission was given to them by Power, the leader of the cyborg council. Apparently, Homeland, the main planet where the cyborgs reside is getting close to overcrowding and they are checking out the rest of the planets in their sector to see if any will sustain life and be good for them to claim as their own.

I liked this book from the start. It was hilarious to me when North picked his two teammates and one of their women wanted to come along. North had to explain to them how the fact that they would all protect her since she was a smaller, weaker, human female would be exactly the problem because it would slow the team down and put them all at further risk. Of course, when she said she would then stay on the ship, her mate decided he would as well, which frustrated North to no end. But eventually she told her mate that he should go and North had his small team ready.

Myrina and her tribe were every bit as fascinating as the cyborgs. She was known as the great giver of life since she captured the males that were used for breeding. She was treated as a celebrity as she walked through the streets of her village even though she was a Dreck. Myrina’s enemy is the Taker of Life, and next in line for the throne. Her sisters want her to be challenge for that position, but Myrina can never be queen anyway and can’t take the thought of killing all the male babies that are born and killing the males when her sisters are done with them. Their ‘god’ is a sentient plant named Steve and he doesn’t allow any males to exist other than himself. He is also a jerk.

“While we’re waiting, we should review the rules we’ve both agreed upon.” That had taken quite a bit of negotiation. On both of their parts.
Neither of them liked rules.
But they were necessary, or Steve would eat every male who set foot on the planet, and her kind would die out, unable to produce future generations.

The world building in this book was terrific. I like the idea of a sentient plant that takes of most of the world and keeps a little bit as his friends to draw others from space. I especially liked Steve’s origins and found that I really liked Steve as a character. Like all the other Cynthia Sax books I have read, there are many terrific characters in this book. I loved both Truth and Dissent and can’t wait to read their stories. Since I started this series with this book, I hope to go back to the prior books, but they weren’t available on my Libby app, so I will have to buy them at some point if I want to read them.

I love North and Myrina the Magnificent is wonderful. They are great together although they have the whole star-crossed thing going that they have to work through. As always, the universe is a dark place and the love between H/h lights the way. The bad, I'm super ambivalent about the Steve, the carnivorous plant.

North has seen everyone on the Reckless slowly find their female. But they had a mission and he was the second-in-command. He needed to make sure he relayed all the information they find on Balazoid Minor. The cyborgs numbers were growing and the planet they did have was getting too small. Myrina was the best fighter on Balazoid Minor. Her people revere her. She is not going to fall for any dream lover.
I love North. First off he has seen almost everyone on the Reckless find their female. He may be second-in-command but he still has a heart and would love to find his. But he has a mission and nothing with distract him from it. Not even Truth and his silliness. But Myrina and he are perfect. He needed a female that could match him as well as bring out the true cyborg/lover. I love it. Myrina cracks me up. She is so funny with all her fanfare. She deserves all that she receives from her people. But I sometimes worried that she wouldn’t realize that she is so much more. Thank goodness for Truth, Dissent, and North going on this mission. And what is up with Steve. At first I thought they were talking about another male but nope. It is a plant. And a very protective one at that. Very interest change. I like it. Of course the sexy is off the charts. So so good.

I really love Cyntha Sax's cyborgs 5 wonderful 🌟's
I've read each and every one of Cyntha Sax's cyborg novels and I really have loved each one. North Bound is no exception. This was the bright spot I needed in all this quarantine madness. North is second in command on the Reckless he's all about duty and carrying out his mission in the safest most efficient way possible. The Reckless and her crew are charge with checking out all of the planet's that can sustain life in and around cyborg controller space. North thinks he's headed on a regular exploration mission, little did he realize that this was going to be the most important of his life. Myrina the Magnificent is the most incredible warrior of her tribe it's life bringer. She knows to no man and wants nothing to do with them. She exuberant, sassy and confident filled with secret longings that she can never let her tribe find out. What happens when you toss a duty bound cyborg warrior in with a confident, I can take care of myself head strong female warrior ? What you get is absolute chaos and fun. They have very different out looks on life and several misunderstandings along the way but watching their relation unfold and the respect for each other that builds between them is wonderful. The fun banter will make you smile, laugh out loud and melt your hear. Add a dash of a deity man eating plant and you've got yourself one hell of a great story. I
Cyntha Sax's cyborgs never disappoint when they love they love with everything they have heart , mind body and soul. I can't wait for Truth' story next.💖

Two magnificent warriors - excellent!
North encountered the most intriguingly distracting female on Balazoid Minor, but “..he couldn’t find it within his duty-driven soul to regret that distraction.” Myrina the Magnificent has responsibilities of her own, but North provides very compelling reasons to make her forget them (for now). Myrina is such a fascinating character! She seems boastful, she’s very flamboyant, but she treasures spending time encouraging youngsters to do their best. You’ll need to read the book to discover why this is so.
Oh, the battles they have! North and Myrina both enjoy them immensely (so did I). Steve, the only male to remain on the planet, is another fascinating character. You’ll get a kick out of him, too! Do read and enjoy the excitement and surprises throughout!

Myrina the Magnificent truly is magnificent. I think that she's the perfect match for North. I love that she makes him think about certain things, and to reconsider some things that he was thinking. I'm pretty sure that every single cyborg ever is going to adore Myrina, because I'm pretty sure that she will be able to give them a real run for their credits. Of course, North may try to kill anyone who hurts her, but we'll see.

It was okay but...

I waited so long for North’s book and he get a flamboyant woman!?! I am not a fan of narcissistic character traits like flamboyance and so I was not interested in this book after reading the first few
pages of Myrina’a POV. I put the book away and haven’t bothered to read it until now. While I still didn’t like her “Magnificent” persona once the story was about her and North it got better enough to hold my attention so I could finish it. It gave a satisfactory HEA but I felt there were loose ends to the story.

I don’t know if I will continue with this series after Truth’s book. I LOVED this cyborg series, but it was more interesting when they were fighting the alliance and I liked the idea of this exploration mission but it’s pretty boring in the intense survival aspect. It’s definitely missing the high impact of a powerful enemy as the main point of conflict.

Still, I will finish this series with Truth’s story as I waited for him too but I dislike these overly self centered female characters. I loved the secretive ones in the earlier books or the ones that rose above their oppressors. They had strength and resilience that I admired and loved reading about. I mean you have a serious personality flaw if you have confidence only when pandering to and from a crowd. Smh. All of the FMC’s skill and training meant nothing due to that. You just lost me with that.

It was an okay book. Steve was too funny for words. Cynthia Sax writes GREAT side characters. But not always great main characters. North flip flopped too much for my liking and he failed with his seniors in one vital scene that I think the author goofed on. I don’t know but it was a little lacking something in this story. Enjoy.

North Has Now Been Pointed In The Right Direction

From the time one of the females expressed wanting to go on the survey mission and him shooting it down, we knew that his mind would be changed on that matter.

What we got in way of our new female was a bit more surprising. It don’t know if I have her body type down even now at the end of the book.

At first I thought that she was just fit, and a little on the tall side. But then she keeps talking about her muscles and at the end it hits me that she’s doing bodybuilding poses. So now, I’m questioning what she looks like outside of her eye, hair and skin color.

As for the rest of the story. Steve was surprising until the end. I don’t get how some people could just turn on you like that one girl did. Apparently the duel had to happen to get rid of that woman, but I actually wanted to see the village in the wake of the duel, but I guess not.

As much as I can hope that we are with them when they come back to visit this planet I highly doubt it, but I am willing to be surprised again.

I was going to say that this is kinda like Vapor’s story, but this far in, you would be hard pressed to get a completely new and different story.

I liked that story too btw.

After the very short story from before, I wasn’t surprised to find that this one was a much longer book, but it almost feels like not that much happened once you are done reading it.

Maybe you will feel that way, maybe you won’t, but it’s still a good read.

Oh, I almost forgot the mystery. 😁 So maybe it wasn’t that short after all, I was just wishing for more in one or two directions.

Later.

Ha. North is one of the more uptight cyborgs and Myrina is...kind of flamboyant. Which might seem like an odd combo, but North did need a little fun in his life before he imploded from loneliness, so it ended up working out.

Not without a bump or two along the way, of course.

Because North is VERY dedicated to his position and his captain and he's determined to make sure every mission he takes part in runs at 100% optimality. Finding his special lady friend while on a planet that does a very good job of killing most men (not that cyborgs are like most men, mind you!) throws his careful plans into disarray. He can't abandon the mission (no way!) so he figures he'll stash Myrina away and deal with her after.

Except...Myrina's not down with that. And she's warrior enough to fight him on it and show him she can hold her own. Even if she couldn't, stifling her larger than life personality would damage her just as surely as being stabbed or shot.

So North has to recalibrate his plan. And possibly work on communicating better. Which he totally figured out. Totally.

Anywho. The cyborgs continue to find their mates, explore distant planets, and stride gleefully into battle. *thumbs up*

Series: Cyborg Space Exploration #5
Rating: 1.5 stars - It wasn’t great

North, second-in command of the cyborg crew, has been tasked with exploring and collecting data on Balazoid Minor. While exploring he realizes the planet is populated by an all female race and one of them is his mate.

This book is the first book in this series I haven’t really enjoyed. I did not like Myrina at all. She was an extremely annoying heroine who constantly was seeking attention and praise. By the end of the first chapter I was done with her antics but I stuck it out hoping it would get better. Sadly, for me it didn’t. North has been the stoic and emotionless cyborg throughout this series. I expected him to open up more and be more emotional in this book but that didn’t really happen till the end. He ended up being a pretty emotionless hero who I will completely forget.

As I said, this one is my least favorite of the series so far. I kind of wish I had skipped it but at least it wasn’t a very long story.

North Bound

Myrina is the best Giver of Life her tribe has ever had and she loves her role in the tribe. Though her life is sometimes difficult due to being different she thrives on being able to bring men to the women to bring life new life into being. Though she wants a child of her own she is not allowed to have one do to her differences, then one day that changes.
North is a Cyborg on a mission to catalogue Myrinas planet 🌎 when he finds the female that is meant to be his for always. He must try to convince her to change her mind about leaving her planet 🌎 to live with him. But he must finish his mission first. Can everything be done and taken care of without anyone getting hurt? Can Myrina change her mind about leaving her planet 🌎? Read this recommended book to find out.

What a great pairing the fates put into bringing North and Myrina together. North thought he'd never find his female and settled into being the best 2nd and protecting the ones who needed him. Myrina was raised to be different but made the best Bringer of Life with the best diety known to all ;). North knows he won't be leaving without her, even if it means a fairly awkward capture lol

I love this series.

I love this author and enjoy reading her books. This one started out slow and I didn't much care for the female MC. Didn't care for her to be and how her people loved but it was what it was. She turned out to be an awesome character. Then there was their deity Steve. Great book!

On to North

Each cyborg in this series becomes another beloved character that you love, and how he changed over the story is what love is all about. Myrina is his strong, versatile and talented kick-ass female warrior who is a powerful match for North.

This is a first for me. I've loved everything I've read by Cynthia Sax. To be honest I did love Myrina and North. What I didn't like and why it got 3 stars, was the repeated use of the phrase Myrina the Magnificent, which was used 96 times. Also the word magnificent which was used 111 times. Needless to say because of this, this book was not one of my favorites.

Myrina took me a bit to get used to, but once I did, I thought she was fabulous. A match for North, definitely. Good read.
