Chrissy Kolaya's website is subtitled "Fiction Writer, Poet, Regular Person" and it is the "regular person" part, I think, that makes the poems in her new collection, Other Possible Lives, uniquely enjoyable and accessible. Who wouldn't treasure a "Found Poem" about gossipy small-mindedness in a waste-of-time work meeting? What's not to like in Kolaya's acerbic "Author Photos," which starts out ruminating on whether the pictured literati have ever considered the use of a blow-dryer? And then, of ...more

Chrissy Kalaya's light touch -- brief mention of thoughts and actions -- complete the brilliance of her subjects. As with all good literature, the reader identifies with and has true empathy for the subjects. (less)
