Add danger and mystery to a wonderful romance and you have…the perfect book! The writing, as always, is superb and the characters are complex and robust. The mystery is exceptional, there are a number of twists and turns that will keep you rapidly moving from page to page and there is a beautiful epilogue. What more could you want?

Just when I think Madeline Martin cannot possible write a better story, she does. There are several layers to this wonderful story of trying to find oneself and shedding the burden of living up to someone else's expectations and approval.
Yes she wanted his opinion. "You are cold, as they say. Polite? Yes, but you have no Joie de vivre...your delivery is without feeling. You have no... passion. You will go through life in an endless routine of changing gowns and attending luncheons and soirees u

How to Tempt a Duke is the author’s first book for Harlequin Historical. It was an amazing book and a great way to start off. The book was fast paced and had wonderful characters.
Society had labeled Lady Eleanor Murray as the Ice Queen when the gentleman that had been courting her proposed to another women. She had been raised with the understanding that showing emotions was a weakness, Murrays were strong, and they did not show fear. Her father belonged to the Adventure Club and when he passed,

How to Tempt a Duke by Madeline Martin is a magnificent work of romance that explores the depths of the human spirit. Martin pushes her characters to their limit. She layers them, and they spring off the page with vitality and vulnerability. Lady Eleanor Murray is not the typical Regency heroine. She is emotionally shut down and earns the name Ice Queen among the ton. I think Martin does an astounding job of peeling back Eleanor’s layers to the woman deep within. Her hero Charles Pemberton the D ...more

Adventure, danger, and love! That's what you'll find in this book. Our hero, Charles, is stubbornly holding on to his quest to fulfill his late father's last request. Many times I justed wanted to smack him and scream at him to open his eyes and see what's right in front of him. Our heroine, Eleanor, is so much more than just an 'Ice Queen'. I loved watching her 'melt' and show her true self. I liked that she was so persistent in becoming the woman she really wanted to be. There is also a sudden ...more

How To Tempt A Duke By Madeline Martin. 5 Stars!
My Perfect Date Companion!
This is a beautifully written historical romance with vivid and engaging characters, fun and exciting plot, surprising twist, mystery, secrets, treasure, and an awakening romance. I really enjoyed the interesting details of the journals, the secret code key, the mysterious archeology treasure club their fathers belonged to, and the details of the political, financial, and extraction red tape of the treasure/artifacts busi

Very well written - as per usual for this author. It's a traditional M & B Regency historical romance set around 1814 with good historical details. There are some steamy romance scenes after a slow burn start. An interesting book that I enjoyed. ...more

Temptation at its best, engrossing, massively compelling romance, filled with intrigue, suspense with a dash of sexual tension.

Loved this book, if only they would take the 5 stars away, I give it as many as I could, that’s probably why they have to do it.

Lady Eleanor Murray has been rejected for the very last time, no more for this lady, until mother gets involved to the extent that she will send her daughter off to a courtesan to learn how to appeal to a man.

Brilliant!
The story grabs you from the beginning. Lady Eleanor Murray has lived her entire life holding her feelings in check, as she was taught from a young age by her unloving Scottish father. She becomes known in society as the Ice Queen. Her mother arranges lessons for her from a courtesan so she will be able to overcome her Ice Queen moniker. Eleanor is publicly dumped by Hugh at a ball. The embarrassment of being called an Ice Queen is difficult to overcome so her mother hires a courtesan, Lottie, to teach her how to flirt. Lottie wants nothing more than to find a new way to make money as she was a vicars daughter before being ruined so she asks her friend Charles to help her out. I absolutely loved this story. I began this story when I went to bed thinking I would just get it started and finish it the following day, well there was no putting it down once I began. It was so captivating and the characters just drew me in. It was quite a unique and creative story for regency times with an interesting twist near the end. I loved Charles, Eleanor and Lottie and there are other interesting supporting characters as well. I am hoping we will get their stories at some point. I do ...more

I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I have thoroughly enjoyed most books by this author. She keeps a story moving, the men rugged but not too obnoxious and the women strong. Although I did enjoy this book, I had a hard time getting sucked in this time. The characters at first seemed dull and the story took a minute to build up. However the once story started to change, there was a turn that I had not expected. I was not expecting the plot to turn into a 'who done it' and treas

I have always loved Madeline Martin's writing style but I have to say that How to Tempt a Duke has got to be the best yet. This is a story of intrigue, treasure hunting, and a distant enemies to lovers story. Charles, the Duke of Somersville, agrees to help his childhood friend give lessons to Eleanor in the h ...more

Eleanor is so uptight; it really makes you feel sorry for her. Her stiffness makes her misunderstood and you can feel how much she wants to be accepted and loved. I understand how she is left out because she is so unapproachable.
Charles can’t think about anything except completing is father’s last request and even if he is handsome, hunky and sexy on the outside, I just want to shake him at times. I felt sorrier for him than I did for Eleanor at times.

The characters in this book took some time to reveal themselves to me. The story became real to me once I understood the relationship with their past and how it manifested itself into their daily lives.
The book was very enthralling because each character brought a different perspective and emotions to the story. I needed to continue to read in order to bring together the strings and make it come together into the fascinating tale that is this book. This author is one of my all-time favorites, sh

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

Madeline Martin made me visit all the emotions in this book. I laughed, cried, cringed, and fell in love with Charles and Eleanor.

Eleanor is a red headed, ice queen. She has to visit a courtesan to learn how to be open and friendly. Enter the hot duke, Charles. Add a treasure hunt, a jerk Of an ex, and a little bit of true love and there is an amazing book.

I say this all the time, but this is my favorite Martin book. She is an amazing author

I have this book 5 stars, and I would have given it more if I could! Madeline Martin is such wonderful author, I buy every book she writes! She is that good. I know I'm going to love the book before I start reading. And I always do! It's not often that you fall in love with the two main characters in a book, but to fall in love with a third also! I loved Charles, who wouldn't, and Eleanor, so brave. I also fell in love with Lottie! Such

The Heart of Fire

Lady Eleanor's mother hires a courtesan to train her daughter in the art of flirtation. Lord Charles, Duke of Somerville, is asked to help. Lessons and flirtations aside, there are the journals that hold the secret of finding the Coeur de Feu. He has the key, but he needs the journals that belonged to Eleanor's father. Somebody else wants them, too. A few twists and turns lead to surprises. Nice plot!

Oh my Goodness! Madeline has been a favorite of mine for a few years now... I love her style of writing and the strong women she writes about! This book was so intriguing for me! The twist near the end was unexpected but loved it all the same! Read it in one night.... couldn't put it down! When Eleanor takes all of her "coldness" shield away.. I wanted to fist bump her! HAHA! A nice change from the medieval stories, Ms Martin has been writing lately although I enjoyed them too. We all need a change and this one fitted the bill nicely. It was filled with drama, adventure and romance. It was lovely to watch the ice queen melt and find love. As usual, the characters had depth and feeling. I loved the secondary characters who bring more life to the story. I received this as an ARC and was happy to do a review.
