Raven Point Pack #2

Shades of Magic

Rate this book
Our wounds are still fresh, but I refuse to give up. Declan Black messed with the wrong shifter and I won't stop until I've made him pay for what he's done.

Having the help of the witch coven we searched for brings choices I wasn't ready to make, but as I say goodbye to one family member and welcome back another, I use the rage consuming me as fuel to continue moving forward in search for retribution.

As a battle nears, my heart and head continue to fight over what to do about my responsibilities to the pack and my mate bond with Liam. He's a risk I'm not sure I'm willing to take, but I'll need to decide soon before the choice is made for me.

Though, when the dust settles, and the consequences of my decisions become known, I may just reach my breaking point.

Shades of Magic by Heather Renee is the second book in the Raven Point Pack series. After my adventure with book one I couldn’t wait to start this installment. I needed to know if Taya would get her revenge and locate the witch who could save her father.

At the start of this installment, Taya finds herself in a difficult situation. She needs to make a choice, which will require sacrificing a member of her pack. Will she be able to do it even if meant doing so would save her father? No matter the decision she makes, the pack will be plunged into mourning. If that was not enough there may be a traitor in the pack.

On a positive note her relationship with Liam is developing nicely. However, the road to true love does not run smoothly. Tragic events will throw a wrench into their plans for the future. I am curious to know how this will develop.

Taya’s strength shined through in this installment. Despite all the challenges faced she did not break under the pressure. It helped that she had the support of Auggie and Liam.

I continue to enjoy the camaraderie and humour that the characters brought to the story.

I expected there would be lots of action in this installment, but this was not the case. Though that the one battle that occurred was intense and had me on the edge of my seat.

The story ended with a cliff-hanger leaving me with more unanswered questions.

Narration
Kasi Howell continues to narrate and does a great job capturing the tone, personality and the voice of the characters.

Conclusion/Recommendation
Shades of Magic was a fun read. I had a good time with this installment and I am looking forward to listening to the third book, Shades of Deceit. This series is perfect for fans of urban fantasy, werewolves and witches.

The writing is basic and the characters vacillate between acting like children and adults (which drives me crazy) but the story is engaging enough that I’m picking up the next book!
*Warning* Yet another giant cliffhanger for an ending. While it does push me to continue reading, it actually makes me hesitate before trying any further series from this author.

Totally knew that was how it was going to end. I wonder if Liam will stay with his pack and they will break up.. or if he will still pass it on to one of his brothers. So many questions...

Shades of Magic was a bit more interesting than the first one. Yes, we get another short battle and we get to know more about the evil sorceress. I'm just wondering if we are going to see more witch on witch fights.. like the whole coven is in the next fight or if all the packs are finally going to combine for a bigger fight against Declan's pack.

Again, I have so many questions and I have no idea what is going to happen in the next book. Yet.

Other than that, the romance is still there and alive. I'm really enjoying Liam and Taya growing closer to one another but we haven't see them in his pack lands yet. I'm also worried that if she leaves then her own pack will be attacked again. Ugh, onto the next book to find some answers!

Well holy dang shifter babies I thought the last book was emotional but yeah this one totally just hit that out the park. I'm not a big crier in life but I was definitely internally ugly crying for sure. Seriously it felt like so much went down in this book and my emotions were legit all over the place. Heather really turned up the emotional heat with this one but it was incredible. I'll just walk through the fire coz its totally worth it.

If you loved the first instalment there's absolutely no reason why you won't love this one! The story keeps up a good pace and I continued to love how everything unfolded. The plot is easy to follow but not to the point you think its too easy...honestly nothing about this storyline feels this way when your reading it. It picks up right off from where book one finishes and gets right into it which is fantastic since book one stops with a fairly decent size cliffhanger. Honestly though it doesn't come quite as close as to how book two finishes. I wasn't emotionally prepared for what happened and it kinda felt a little like this

I really hope Declan Black will pay - oh how he must pay.

On to more happier notes...ohmygosh eeek Liam and Taya are soooo adorable. I just love their relationship and how it has grown. He's still as protective as ever and a wee bit possessive but well I find it adorable. Taya is so cheeky though with how she is always messing with him and trying to push his buttons to get a reaction. Its just too amusing. Here is one of my favourite scenes.

“We needed privacy. They didn’t look like the type to give it to us. Turns out I was right.”
Laughter once again took over my body. She was good. The next time I turned back toward the window, Liam’s face was fully visible in the glass, and he was glaring daggers at me.
I strode over to the window and pushed it open. “Hey there, Romeo.”
“Not funny, Taya. We couldn’t hear anything. We had no idea if you were alright. What did you think “we would do?”
“Well, considering I had no clue you’d been blocked from the room, I’m at a disadvantage. Had I known, I would have placed bets on who would come first and how long it would take you to come up with a plan and execute it. That was a missed opportunity.”
“Move,” he grunted.
I slid back, watching as his muscles pulled taut and he climbed through the window. Totally worth it.
“It’s not funny. You can wipe that smirk off your face now.”
He was being a party pooper. Grouchy old man."

There's just way too many amusing moments between these two and their friends. I've come to the simple conclusion that if Taya is involved there's never a dull moment. Seems like someone agreed with me too lol.

"I glanced back at Rick. “Glad you came with us?”
“Never a dull moment when you’re around,” he replied with a small smile."

There's just so much to love about this book and I can't wait til I can get my hands on Shades Of Deceit. Too bad I rushed through Shades Of Magic in like 6hrs so now I gotto wait a month or so until the next audiobook is released. Funnily enough though I had this super weird dream last night
of someone hiding the audiobooks from me so I couldn’t listen to Shades of Deceit and then were teasing me about it when they gave it to me...I then threw a pillow at them in frustration for keeping it from me. Like I said sooo weird 😂 I may be more like Taya then I realised haha. You're totally welcome for being brought in on my odd dream lol.

Anywho I'll leave it at that lol.

Thanks Heather for another amazing read!

This is book 2 in the series and basically picks up in the same conversation that book 1 ended on so you need to read the books in order to understand what is going on. The plot builds in each book and in my opinion gets better so start at the beginning. The audio was only 5 and half hours making this an easy read to power through and the writing is engaging enough that you don't want to stop anyway.

Liam is pretty dang dreamy. Everything about him was just about perfect and Taya is a lucky girl, he was what she needed to help heal her multiple times broken heart. I really loved their interactions, be it sweet and understanding, romantic or steamy. I was so concerned how they would overcome their pack status and location issues, but it was handled perfectly (pending how the next book plays out). They are very quickly moving up the ranks to be one of my favorite werewolf couples.

I listened to the first book on audio and this one on audio as well and the narrator is fantastic. She is a perfect Taya, able to convey spunk and determination and I feel like she brought her to life in the best way. Also, the narrator has distinct voices for all the side character so you always know who is speaking. Overall I feel like she did a great job making me get lost in the story.

The ending to this book was awful! Seriously, the worst and I can't believe the author would do this to me. I need the next book in the series like yesterday so I can keep going and see how everything will end. I highly recommend this series for anyone who likes werewolves, paranormal romance, action and a strong feisty heroine

This is the second installment of the Raven Point series. It begins where book 1 left off. Taya is faced with making a difficult decision to save someone she loves. *yikes* Very tough decision, and man it is a tear jerker to see who is sacrificed. I don’t think it dwells to much on that which is good for ME or I would be a sobbing mess. Liam and Taya take their relationship to another level but then something drastic changes their plans and now we don’t know what will happen next with them. I’m still shook over what happened and I have come to really love Taya. I love how she stands up for herself and for the ones she loves. I look forward to reading the next book.

Audio: I love the narrator and she added another layer to this series. I really believe that she is the perfect voice for Taya and portrays it and the guys very well. I highly recommend.

At the beginning of this installment, Taya is dealing with the news on how to save a loved one’s life. How can she make such an impossible decision? Add to that, she and Liam are growing closer, and she isn’t sure she or he is prepared for what a lifetime commitment means. This books deals mostly with those things, and the consequence of the decisions to be made. I really like this series, and at the end of this book, I was shocked and wondered just how they are going to get over this latest hurdle. If you like YA/NA paranormal romance, you need to try this! Highly recommend! I was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.

Shades of Magic continues on following the conclusion to Shades of Fury. Taya’s father is still in a coma, but with a plan in place hopefully it won’t be for too long.

Taya and Liam’s relationship develops into a beautiful love story, that’s still on beginning. The emotions are again so well expressed as Taya, her family and pack are hit with multiple situations.

Just as the story unfolds and things start looking better, the ending will throw all that out the window.

I highly recommend the second book in the Raven Point Pack series by Heather Renee, and have the third book ready to go - luckily.

It's the second instalment of the series and honestly this story is just getting better. Main character got a very difficult choice to make, the one which gives you a heartache for her. Despite this all we witness Taya growing up to be even more awesome, independent and badass than before. I love strong females and Taya with the boys quickly became a part of me imprinted in my mind forever. Another amazing book by Heather with the best cliffhanger ever! I simply can't wait for next one!

Just wow

I just love this series. The story and characters are so well written that once you start reading it, you can't put it down. I love how Taya, Liam, Auggie and the rest interact with each other and how strong the relationships are between them all.
But, damn that ending....

This is the second book in the trilogy and as expected, I started reading this book immediately and it was equally good as the first one. And although it might seem a bit calmer in the beginning, due to some tragic events, it is still fast paced and gripping.
Taya is learning to relax and rely on others, as the pack dynamic shifts somewhat. Everyone is working together to fix the damage caused previously, while the main villain is still at large. The group dynamics among Taya, Jamie, Augie, Liam, Caleb, and Aiden are fun and entertaining but also quite serious.
I have to admit that when I realised that I am two days away from having the last book, I stopped reading halfway because I could not face another cliffhanger, without the last book, so I found a nice relatively quiet point in the book to make my break. Naturally, this book also finishes on a shocking cliffhanger and I continued reading the last book immediately as soon as it was downloaded to my kindle.
Reading order is: Shades of Fury (Raven Point Pack Trilogy #1), Shades of Magic (Raven Point Pack Trilogy #2), and Shades of Deceit
(Raven Point Pack Trilogy #3).

Can you just not with the cliffhangers. I'm going to tag this as ALL one book when the last one comes out because I can't handle waiting. *glares evilly*

Taya and Liam FINALLY hit their stride, just in time for dear old daddy to wake up. How convenient. I'd be mortified, even as a werewolf. A whole lot of things in this book seemed conveniently set up though but given that it is the second book in the trilogy I expect that. Like we know who is really going to take over Liam's pack. If he left, I may have to go on an author hunt.

Augie is still my favorite character. Period. No questions. He's absolutely adorable and exactly what Taya needs.

As a practicing witch, I approve of these witches. They are, admittedly, high fantasy versions. But! Very well done Heather! I'm so glad. I would not follow my recommendations of this book on how the witches were and that is definitely a good thing because I'd be recommending this book for the good things!

"Basically I was up shit creek without a paddle." Best first line 🤣
.
We pick up shortly after Shades of Fury ends. Taya and Liam are figuring out their relationship and how serious they want things to be. And theres some Pack drama that needs serious attention.
This series has THE BEST banter. The characters are so fun and realistic...besides being werewolves of course 😅. Lots of fun and of course there's some action and surprises and ... some heartbreak. Lol Then just as you think things are wrapping up in a neat little bow...WAM. Cliffhanger!
The narrator Kasi Hollowell did absolutely amazing! So much heart and emotion in this one. Just fabulous!
.
"Holy shit. This was some soap opera drama."
.
I glanced at Liam, "We have your gravesite picked out already if you break my heart. You still want in?"
.
"You look like you had a fight with a chainsaw, Firecracker."
.
"Well, shit." Best Last line 😂

Dontcha just adore cliffhangers?! This one will make your jaw drop! Just when we think it could not grow more complicated or intense, Ms. Renee ramps up the drama! She's quite talented at accomplishing this particular task. Taya is ready to take a trip with some of her favorite fellows when a tragedy strikes. This was one action packed and emotionally fraught edition. Taya and Liam grow closer, Augie grows confident in his new role, we read a few farewells that are tragically sad and we see a whole new side of pack life. This series just keeps on entertaining and surprising it's readers. The covers are memorable and draw you in! They're simply gorgeous! I cannot wait for the third book, as I'm left dangling in the wind as to what will happen to some of my very favorite characters ever penned!

That ending will get me every time! This was everything I needed in a sequel to book 1. There was action, there was humor, and there was some much-needed sexiness. What else do I really need to say? Heather did an amazing job picking up the story right where she left off in book 1 and gives us the answers we had been waiting for since she gave us that heart-stopping cliffhanger. Of course, the answers weren't necessarily what we wanted and Taya struggles with the aftermath of everything that went down with Declan in book 1. In book 2 we get to see more of Taya and Liam and get to see their relationship develop so perfectly into what we all hoped it would be since they first met in book 1. Not to be outshone by book 1's ending, book 2 has an even more jaw-dropping, heart-pounding ending that you won't want to miss!

Shades of Magic is the second installment in this fascinating trilogy, and continues with Taya and her friends as they try to find a solution to save their alpha and take down the enemies among their shifter community. Book two definitely takes it up a notch, and I loved the emotional layer that the author added to understand the level of familial closeness of this tight-knit pack, as well as the growing complexity of the romantic relationship that Taya and Liam share. And just when you think everything will work out, it ends in another cliffhanger and this one is a doozy! I can’t wait for the conclusion to see how it all unfolds. The narration carried over consistently from the first book. Kasi Hollowell gives a perfect performance throughout, giving the fiery spunk to Taya that makes her the heroine to adore.

OMG CLIFFHANGERRR! 😱

It was nice to see Taya start to crack her hard exterior in this book, beginning to think more about those around her and getting to witness first hand the difficulties associated with the shifter life during mishaps within their world.

I loved the banter between the characters and the various elements that Heather created in this story. The writing in general was really wholesome whilst emotional which was a nice change from my usual really dark reads.

Augie was my favourite character throughout as he’s really just what everyone needs in a bestie and such a genuine guy!

The story was a little repetitive at points, especially during the monologues, and I would enjoyed a little more dialog and action and exploring so to speak to get to know the other characters and explore their pack home a little more.

Will be diving straight into the next book!

I don’t know, I really enjoyed book 1, but this book (#2) just felt scattered & disorganized. I really wanted to like it more or as much as book 1. The flow was stop and go, and was not holding my attention very well. I almost quit the book at several points in the story. The story seemed to jump locations (traveling here & there for various reasons) with no real sense of time frame to hold it together other than random mentions of “weeks” thrown in. I also felt Taya was not likable in this book, especially how she treated Liam. And Liam definitely didn’t seem so “Alpha” in this book. Book one definitely felt Y/A, this one more N/A.

Favorite Quotes:
“You two still haven’t talked about that?” Augie shook his head in irritation at me. “I know you’re good at avoiding stuff when you want to, but this can’t be avoided or you’re going to get your heart broken. Then, I’m going to have to hurt Liam’s face for hurting you and he’ll likely hit back harder. It’s not good for any of us.”

“Awe. Well, isn’t that sweet of you.” I batted my eyes at him like a southern belle.
“Being adorable doesn’t get you off the hook for disappearing,” he growled.
“Fine. It was worth a try.”

Shades of Magic (Raven Point Pack Book 2)

OMG 😳😱!!!! ……… I started reading the book and figured I would only read a chapter or two because I wanted to go to bed early, well finished this book and well after this ending need to read hopefully a chapter or two and definitely need to go to sleep…. LOL 😂😂😂

Oh my lord! The emotional roller coaster that Heather has taken me on with this series! She is a matter of the art of cliffhanging! The flow of both is like a smooth river, going from book 1 to book 2, then there is the absolute amazing story line, and the characters that don't disappoint! When is the next one because with that ending it would just be cruel to have to wait for the story to continue!

The second book of the series did not disappoint! We once again follow Taya and the pack in their fight against Declan, the sorceress and their pack of wolves, and honestly once I started reading I could not put the book down! I felt every emotion along with Taya, who I must say is a kick ass MC and I love her relationship with Liam. That cliffhanger at the end though, I don’t know if I can wait much longer for the next book! Once again Heather thank you for sharing your amazing work!

Meh

This book is actually 3.5 stars and I'll explain why. Without giving out any spoilers I had a little trouble with Taya the main character. I'm just not connecting with her and I feel she's a bit of a weenie. I've already bought book 3 and 4 but I'm going to take a break with this series. I am hopeful that book 3 might strike my interest a little more. At least I'm hoping it will.

Hmmmmm.......
I’m not sure about this one. I like the overall story and how it played out but I felt it was missing something and a little monotone.
I’m not sure what happened but I feel like Taya and Liam “lost” their personality in this one, they kinda lost their spark and became boring. I don’t really know how to put it.

I’ll pick up the next instalment and see how it goes but I’m not sure. I will be honest I did skim the last 40% of the book.

Who doesn’t love a great sequel??? This was fantastic! I love Taya, she’s a fantastic FMC! As this story continues to unfold we grow to live her and all of the other characters more and more. Emotions all over the place, and cliffhangers get me, but I’m happy to see that this series just keeps going and getting better!

Wow this was an awesome book. I loved getting to see the characters grow and become more complex as the book went on. I love how powerful Taya is. I love that we are able to see a strong woman doing what she does without men being surprised she could do it. I can't wait to see what else happens in this series!!!!!
