Comfort Songs by Kimberly Fish is a 2019 Fish Tales publication.

An all around great story!

We are often a product of our past and AJ’s hasn’t exactly been a bed of roses-

AJ’s parents were country music legends. They reached the pinnacle of success, but their marriage didn’t survive. Her parent’s lifestyle, and the betrayal by the man who promised to marry her, left AJ irreparably changed. She fled the music scene and now owns a highly successful lavender field that attracts tourists from all ov

Put together some washed up musicians, a cantankerous grandmother, a young woman trying to hold everything together, and a man that sees potential in everything and you have discovered Comfort Songs, a story that will touch your soul and make you laugh and cry all at the same time.

Each chapter starts with a snippet from a book that AJ is writing called Lessons from Lavender Hill.  Knowing the author and her love of the outdoors and plants, this was a natural fit for her and her characters.  The

If you're a fan of the show This Is Us, then you will absolutely understand what it feels like to be completely captivated by a family that makes your heart swoon in one beat, but break in the next. Every moment and emotion of this redemptive tale was vivid, richly portrayed, and masterfully relatable, casting a magical spell over me while reading that made it so rewarding to reach the end, yet so hard to say goodbye to these characters.

"Good thing you came to Comfort. We specialize in changing

Everyone has a backstory. And as you read Comfort Songs by Kimberly Fish, it is easy to envision how the lives of those who have gone before us can have so much influence on what makes each of us who we are today. Strong work ethics, stubbornness, soft-heartedness, the need to control, the desire to create and so many other personality traits are tightly woven into the strands of our DNA. It seems, our ancestors can have stronger influences on the way we live and breathe and perceive than we are ...more

"Sometimes, we all need a moment to forget the world and fall into a song."

Comfort Songs by Kimberly Fish is the perfect combination of sweet romance, rocky relationships, hurtful assumptions and grudges, songs to mend broken hearts and create new beginnings, a field of lavender to soothe the soul, and a dog named Beans that offers soft kisses and constant companionship.

Autumn Joy "AJ" Worthington owns and runs a lavender farm in Comfort, Texas, that actually reminds me a little bit of Wildseed

In COMFORT SONGS, author Kimberly Fish has done everything right. Rich descriptions put readers in the middle of the Texas Hill Country where we can see and feel and smell the goodness of the great outdoors, where nature has its own way of giving hope and healing. Detailed and robust characterization makes the people alarmingly realistic. Multi-tiered, meticulously written, and intricately woven plotlines transport readers into other places, other times where life may seem simpler -- but it is l ...more

The story was one of family, forgiveness and for me hope. AJ (Autumn Joy), our protagonist, had to learn how to forgive, how to let her family be, and how to let love and hope back into her life. She had the unimaginable burden of caring for a grandparent who was dealing with the early onset of dementia and being the referee between parents that were not fit to carry the title.
The author did a good job bringing me into the story from the onset via AJ’s point of view. I had not read the previous

When I read books, my brain tends to turn the story into a cinematic experience. Comfort Songs by Kimberly Fish very easily converted into a movie in my mind because of its vivid imagery (and lovely smells!) and natural dialogue. I wasn’t surprised to read that several of the characters from the companion book, Comfort Plans, reappear in this novel. Fish obviously has a clear picture of each character and effortlessly translates that image onto the page so that we can see it as well.

I didn’t get

This book. I'm a big Kimberly Fish fan, but COMFORT SONGS may be her best yet. The magic is all in the title, the setting, the characters, the true to life story. Think of lavender, country music, and the comfort that family, friends, and love can bring. COMFORT SONGS is like the way you wish the TV show NASHVILLE would have ended up. COMFORT SONGS is a LifeTime TV show just waiting to happen, perfect for fall or for anytime you are longing to step back to a simpler life.

Alright, so I liked it

I reviewed Kimberly Fish’s previous novel Comfort Plans two years ago, and it was a pleasure to revisit her writing and the world she’s created in Comfort, Texas, with this novel, Comfort Songs.

With this story, set in the present but with flashbacks to previous eras, Fish really demonstrates her prowess at writing compelling tales of women in transition. Inez (aka Gran) is facing the descent into Alzheimer’s Disease. July, whose retirement as a performer opens the novel, is facing new directions

Comfort Songs is a wonderful story! Kimberly Fish is a seasoned professional when it comes to crafting stories that cling to your heart, yet provide enough action (and other stuff) to keep all readers interested and entertained. With that mindset, I can say this novel did not disappoint me.

This novel, in particular, touches on some things not often included in fiction. One of those things is a character showing symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. Although this character is not the main character, t

“Baby, we can never go back. We can only go forward,” Inez said breathlessly. “And you can start over as many times as you like.”

Kimberly! Kimberly! Here I go again, I am crying. Another book that had me in tears by the end. I am not complaining in the least. I love gardens. I love plants. I love lavender. I love a perfect story. Crying is so much better than having no emotions at all about a story.

Kimberly Fish truly wove a gem of a family and a garden story with Comfort Songs. The story mainly

Comfort Songs is a heartwarming, beautifully written, easy to read (and harder to put down) contemporary fiction novel that I read in the course of a weekend. It owned that rare magic where you don’t want to put it down all while wanting to stretch out your moments in the book.

This is a story of family and forgiveness, and oh, goodness, is there a LOT of room for forgiveness in this tale! The main character, AJ, is likable and relatable, and you will quickly find yourself wanting to shake everyo

I'm a fan of reading about women who find their purpose, can forgive those who caused them pain, and chase hope as it lead them into a better understanding relationships. Plus, I really like lavender farms. And big friendly dogs.
