Nancy Paddock writes with great range and honesty. Fearlessly, her poems stride across fraught emotional territory, drawing beauty from the more challenging moments of life by placing them in context with the larger world: the cosmos, the "fire flare" of a poppy, a bee entering the womb of the flower to be "born into sweetness." The poems testify to the way in which we so often must pass through trial in order to gain new appreciation of Earth and our own existence: "Trust the wild/ heart to go on/ beating even as it breaks. / Trust the heart's forgotten language / to teach you....Trust love as you trust the boundless/ reservoir of your tears. Trust love..."
