Abū Zakariyyā Yaḥyā ibn Sharaf al-Nawawī (Arabic: أبو زكريا يحيى بن شرف النووي; 1233–1277), popularly known as al-Nawawī or Imam Nawawī (631–676 A.H./1234–1277), was a Sunni Shafi'ite jurist and hadith scholar.[3] He authored numerous and lengthy works ranging from hadith, to theology, biography, and jurisprudence.[4] Al-Nawawi never married.[5]
Sh. Abu Eesa Niamatullah cites this book during one of the first lessons on 'intention' in his fiqh class, Logical Progression. I ordered it ages ago but finally finished Volume 1 today! Took me about two Ramadans to read it. I would highly recommend it to all or any students of knowledge, looking to understand Imam Nawawi's 40 hadith. The commentary has a few typos but the powerful content makes one overlook them.
Update on October 9, 2020 after finishing Volume 2:
I have nothing more to add since my reflection for Volume 1. This entire work did wonders for my soul. It is truly a gift to find happiness in consistently seeking knowledge and pursuing educational endeavours. May God bless everyone related to the existence of this book.
That is the best commentary that has ever been written on the 40 hadiths of Nawawi. Zarabozo has done a great effort in gathering almost all related traditions and Qur'anic verses to every hadith, and interconnected them to produce the most complete picture in front of the reader, especially knowledge seekers. My only negative view for Zarabozo's approach is that he inclines greatly towards the modern Salafists' views and neglects or degrades other views. I didn't like that. Otherwise, this book is an excellent read; and surely, an important one.
