Engaging, insightful and authentic. Shelley has come through the darkest experiences, but instead of becoming crushed and embittered, she has used these to bounce back. As anyone who knows Shelley will attest, she is one of the most vibrant and generous individuals, using her unique talents to share love and compassion in the most practical of ways. Inspiring and highly recommended!
The author's emotional journey takes place on the day of her grandmother's funeral, as she is inundated with memories of the major events of her life while on her property. Her feeling of being lost and unsettled are relatable and the author does a great job of conveying the way that she was able to make sense and find peace with her memories and heal.

“Negativity is like a virus that latches on and waits for the most inopportune time to cross the barrier. Day after day of antagonistic behavior from others can lead to tension that begins to replicate in our psyche. Adversarial conduct from outside sources can eventually deplete our system, resulting in disastrous health consequences. Depletion leads to further depletion, propagating a vicious infectious cycle. Soon we may feel run down, empty, and with nothing left to give.”

“We show faith in ourselves by setting clear goals. It is imperative that we acknowledge our successes and give credit where credit is due. More importantly, we must put failure into perspective. Faith in oneself and perceived failure are intimately connected. For many of us, when we think that we have failed, we lose faith in our abilities. The way I see it, failure is merely a tool by which we learn life’s lessons all too well. When the concept of failure is put into perspective, we are better able to acknowledge the wounds incurred in life. With positive attention, wounds heal and scars soften. Only then are we able to look through the pain and have faith in the good that resides within our hearts.”
