Having been homeschooled until now, Maeleigh is nervous about starting at her new high school. She knew things would be different, but there was no way to prepare her for Gearden. Nor was she prepared to hear his voice in her head. Born deaf, she hasn’t heard anyone’s voice clearly before so why now? And how?!

That’s not the only weird thing going on in town. There’s a wh

Lots of potential but...

Concept was good. Had and issue with MC being labeled as deaf though. She could hear some conversations but not others, whether or not the speaker was looking at her or not. She routinely spoke and was clearly understood. The various interpreters inserted themselves into conversations which should never be done. I also had an issue with the writing. In one sentence the MC was convinced her mate was disgusted with her but then it was a loving look. The writer wrote in both

The Hunt is a fascinating story of family, Druids, Wolves and other mystical creatures. It’s well paced and intriguing, the author using ambiance brilliantly. What I liked the most, though, was that the main character’s disability, while important, was not the focus of who she was. No spoilers, but she is interesting on a lot of levels. Representation matters and showing “Maeleigh” as a whole person with family drama, the supernatural aspects of what she is and relationship issues made her a wel ...more

Pretty good

This was a pretty good first book to a series, It had a few twists and turns especially at the end. I cant wait to see what happens next.

Not your typical perfect heroine of a shifter story. Maeleigh is deaf but doesn't let it slow her down. She's in a new town and learning about herself and a mysterious new world hidden in plain sight

Good start

Enjoyable story. However, it needs some editing, especially towards the end. I enjoyed that the main character had some different attributes.

Read about Meas struggle to thrive in a world she cannot hear. In her life she moves and comes face to face with her mate a werewolf. Follow as she traverses the world after learning what she is.

There are so many factors that could have made this YA novel GREAT, from the major plot point that the heroine is deaf, to the mixing of races and a mysterious past. Instead, it is a rather mundane offering, that while still a decent read, doesn't quite rise to the level the ingredients allow for.

I enjoyed it, surely, but I was left a touch disgruntled and disappointed with the flow, the over use of the word 'contempt' and the general lack of pacing. That's not to say this isn't worth reading, b

YA at it's best. I don't really go for this type of book. I was impressed by the character development of more than just the hero and heroine. Good scene settings without too much description to distract from the main purpose of the action taking place. I was a bit disappointed that Maeleighs powers were never defined, just a blip towards the end. Did her mom and dad ever make up? More questions to be answered maybe in the next book. Not sure if I'm really into the series, but the story is

This book was interesting especially with all the different folklore but it felt like I was reading a rough draft, it just wasn’t completely put together. some parts had too much detail and other parts were vague and the whole thing somehow felt drawn out yet rushed like everything is kept a secret for no real reason other than to make the book longer. Also no real connection between any of the characters, it was like reading a conversation between strangers

Different but good

I'm pleasantly surprised at how different this book is from other shifter books I've read. There are of course similarities but the difference make the story I think.

Not Bad but Obvious

The beginning few chapters was a bit stilted in some places with a few point of view errors (switching from first pov to third in the same sentence) and the misspeling Hermione. Probably could have done without Derrick's pov esepcially since it didnt occur very much and made it very obvious where the story was going. The stilted feeling came from including Derrick and Brianna's povs which could have been left out to add to the mystery (derrick's) or relegated to Gearson or Ma

Great read/story. Needed some editing here and there, but not that much. It didn't take from the story at all. Nice build up and story line. Excited for the next read! On to the next! #HappyReading ♥ ...more

Fun read! Looking forward to the next one, which is beside me right now :)

I am not a fan of cliff hanger endings and this book does a good job of wrapping up the conflict and letting you know more is to come.

Cute story. I liked the story line but felt like this was not much of a romance. It was more for a young audience. The story got really good towards the end and I am looking forward to see what happens in book 2.

There were some typos. I did appreciate how the author added some actual deaf norms to the character unlike some books I read where they disregard what it means to be deaf.

I love this werewolf story. Unless I’m late with books this is the first one I have read from the teenage wolf’s POV and not the adults. Every time I read one it’s more adults and their problems within the pack and threats to the pack while just mentions the kids they have. This book focuses on the teenage wolf and their viewpoint of the problems within the pack and the threats to it while they deal with being a wolf and being a teenager. Maeleigh is a deaf teenager that just started a new high ...more

This book was received from the author for review. All opinions are my own.

(Note that my rating is actually a 3.5, but Goodreads still doesn’t allow half-stars.)

I have to say, the absolute coolest thing about this book (and series, it’s a got a sequel coming out! Today, actually, according to Goodreads at the time of writing this!) is the fact that the main character is deaf. (Note: I don’t think she’s Deaf, at least by what I’ve learned, but I could be wrong.)

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Maeleigh and Gearden! There were a lot of twists that I didn’t see coming which was a nice surprise. I read a lot so some books feel like more of the same with different names. This was definitely NOT one of those times! The background on the FMC was a bit more complicated than expected and brings some extra drama and layers to the interpersonal dynamics. I’m definitely looking forward to more.

The Hunt had several elements that many expect and love from a YA fantasy - a new girl/character introduced to a world they didn't know they belonged to, fated mates where the newer paranormal is reluctant upon facing so many changes at once, and the family that one finds when embracing their true life.

The immediate standout here is that our main character, Maeleigh, was born deaf. As it's a disability I've rarely come across while reading (though one I personally can connect with on some level,

*I received an ARC from Reedsy Discovery*

In The Hunt, we have the main character, Maeleigh, who is deaf. I found it fascinating to read about as it really added another layer to the story. Since the story is partly told through her POV we had to rely on her other senses and it really made a unique reading experience.
We also get the POV from multiple characters which is one of my favorite features in books. I always feel it adds more to the story and makes it more rounded out. It was not a disapp

The Good: The fact that a new student who is deaf instantly makes a lot of friends at a new school across the country. It almost seems too easy. She has translators and gets by nearly effortlessly.

The Typical: bad boy future alpha discovers his mate. He doesn't care that she is deaf. He is also not accepting the mate claim because she has no idea about what is going on. As they begin to explain to her about shifters and druids and other super naturals the book takes a turn.

Are you a fan of the trope where the average girl turns out to be extraordinary? If you are, this story is for you.

The main character, Maeleigh, steamrolls her way from new girl at school to hot commodity. She’ll make any reader envious of her ability to sidestep the awkwardness of high school. Popular guys vying for her attention; she has it. Good-natured pretty girl wanting to be her bff; she has it. Most sought out seat to sit at lunch; she has it. And that is only chapter one, my friends.

I don't know how else to report this I will retract my review when I figure it out or if someone decides to contact me

About 10 to 12 chapters in I can't really look at this moment the audible narration for this novel turns to straight crap and the author even goes completely out of character and cusses because she continues to mess up. I actually paid money for this and can't do anything about it right this minute. I am so floored at the lack of professionalism in the fact that I had to pay for
