Alessandra is tired of being overlooked, but she has a plan to gain power:

1) Woo the Shadow King.
2) Marry him.
3) Kill him and take his kingdom for herself.

No one knows the extent of the freshly crowned Shadow Kings power. Some say he can command the shadows that swirl around him to do his bidding. Others say they speak to him, whispering the thoughts of his enemies.

a book is worth five stars if i am willing to sacrifice one of my favourite things - sleep. i started this when i got home from work and stayed up until 2am (even though i knew i had to get up early) because i just could not. put. this. down.

there are so many qualities and aspects to this which make this story so wonderful:
- a female MC who is unapologetically herself. even when her feelings and motives change, she is still true to herself.

- a female MC who is ruthless, as well as kind. usually

Was this book perfect? No. Did this book deliver on everything I've expected from it? No.
Do I care? No. Why? Because it was such a long time since I enjoyed "YA"/fantasy book so much as I did enjoy this one.

As I previously mentioned, I was sold when this book was labelled as "Slytherin".

If only he knew I have my sights set a bit higher than that.

Yeah, I was hyped when I started this book, and the beginning was so good, I had problems to remember to breathe, and then I was close to

Allesandra will not settle for marrying a Lord or Duke. She has eyes for only one man, The Shadow King himself.

It's not really the Shadow King she wants but his kingdom and to be able to rule from his throne.

But first she needs to woo the King, which is made difficult by the fact that no one is allowed to touch him. And protect him from his enemies who threaten his life and intend to take his, soon to be her,

This gave me all the Cruel Beauty-vibes I've been craving and my favourite 2020 release thus far. I nearly read this WHOLE THING in one sitting with a grin on my face. It was SO GOOD. Morally grey characters who are so unapologetically bad...and I loved it.

Do yourselves a favour and pick it up when it releases in February. This

This book really showed me just how much our first impression of anyone influences how we react to their actions in any given situation. Alessandra, introduced as a vicious, scheming woman with no loyalties, but, honestly, captivating in her intelligence, held my

Although Im too much of a HUFFLEPUFF to be like Alessandra or to even have the guts to do half the things she does in this book, The Shadows Between Us wooed me in all its SLYTHERIN glory.

Tired of being constantly overlooked, Alessandra is determined to prove just how cunning and villainous she could be. The plan is simple:

1) Woo the Shadow King.
2) Marry him.
3) Kill him and take his kingdom for herself.

What could possibly go wrong? Nothing. Except for one scenario shes not at all

Life isnt easy either, no one will give you anything for free.

But instead, he broke it. He tore it apart.
So she killed him.

Official review to come, but i LOVED this!

I loved Warrior of the Wild from the author. I liked it so much that I set my expectations too high for this one. Unfortunately, my expectations were not met, and maybe this is just another case of "it's me not you".
There were too many inconsistencies for me to be able to fully enjoy this book. While in WotW I loved the writing, in this one the writing always felt too abrupt. I enjoyed the first 40% of the book and from then on just lost interest.
So without further delay,

3.5 starts, and I feel so conflicted!

Normally I like the fact that Tricia Levenseller's books are quite short (330 ish pages), because to me it means that no matter how stressful my life is at that point, I will still be able to finish it in a reasonable amount of time. The problems with reading short books, and standalone novels, is that I always end up wanting more. More world-building. More background story. More character development. More tension. More everything! The Shadows Between Us is

THIS WAS SO GOOD!!! Maybe more of a 4.5 stars but I immensely enjoyed this reading experience and this had one of the best romances I have ever read. Full review to come!
I think that when you care enough for someone, you reach a point where its far more painful not to have him at all than to have him and risk losing him. You realize the risk is worth it. Because happiness, however short-lived, is always worth it.

I've read this book extremely fast.
I pick it up so I could read the first chapter and when I realized I was already halfway through.

I have read every book by this author and she's yet to disappoint me.

This book was addictive. There is no other word to describe it.

The story was quite original. The concept that the main character wants to kill the Shadow King after she marries him so she can have the crown and power was brilliant.
And the execution was done perfectly.

The story was well

I have a new game in mind. Im going to woo the king. I suspect it wont be longer than a month before hes helplessly in love with me.

I found a sort of disclaimer Tricia wrote saying, My characters have unapologetically questionable morals. Don't expect them to change. It's who they are. I will confirm that this is 100% true. I will also confess that its part of the reason I love the book most. This book isnt about becoming a better person. Actually, if there was any kind of lesson in this book,

They've never found the body of the first and only boy who broke my heart. And they never will.

Spoiler alert: they did, actually, and it didn't matter. Because nothing in this book makes any sense.

This was so predictable and very disappointing. Im not sure if Im outgrowing YA or if Im just picking up shitty YA books. Either way, I didnt enjoy The Shadows Between Us at all. It felt extremely formulaic, severely underdeveloped, and wholly uninspiring. I was so bored.

Wow this was incredible! Its like The Cruel Prince meets Cruel Beauty, with a hell of a twisted villainous romance thrown in. Absolute perfection!

The synopsis totally speaks to my soul. Im so hyped for this! 😍

I couldn't put this down!
Tricia Levenseller does such a great job creating kickass, independent women and this was no exception. I loved how our main character knew her worth and didn't let anyone else tell her otherwise.
I really enjoyed the sex positive nature and also her shameless flirting. The banter was *chefs kiss* good and I couldn't get enough of her and the King interacting and watching their relationship grow and develop into its own thing.
I think Levenseller's writing just keeps

this was bland. so goddamn bland. did I mention bland?
I went into this so excited and ready for a villain/villain romance and a kickass main character...but where was it? the only thing I liked about our mc was that she was sexually active and not a virgin like most ya fantasy mc. but other than that? nothing. I stanned her for the first three chapter and then I just did not care. she was far from a villainous, cunning queen. she had so many opportunities to show that she was, but never did so

"I know when I've been beaten, and I have barely even started."

The Shadows Between Us is described as a Slytherin romance and I could not agree more. This was my first novel from Tricia Levenseller but it absolutely will not be my last, especially considering I have her other books sitting on my bookshelf waiting to be devoured.  If you're like me and love a good fantasy book with ruthless characters, love, lust, deception, and so many betrayals then you absolutely need to save a spot on your

I'm upset this is over. I'm upset I read it in two days. I'm even more upset that it doesn't come out for several more months (I need the hardcover now!!).

But in all seriousness, this is the type of story I shouldn't love. I'm not a fan of hate-to-love main characters, but I gotta give props to Alessandra. She's cunning and smart, and I appreciated her ambition and ability to take her own fate in her hands.

To say I am OBSESSED with the romance in this book is an understatement. I needed this

Its a villain love story. Its a VILLAIN love story. ITS A VILLAIN LOVE STORY! My goodness, I was so excited to get this in my hands. I was promised a Slytherin romance. At 30% I was beginning to doubt that.

From what I know, Slytherins are cunning, shrewd, and ambitious. Though I can state the Alessandra is ambitious, it just feels that it wasn't enough.

I was hooked at the first 10% of the book but after the 20% mark it was getting a bit dull.

Alessandra is so focused in getting rid of her previous beau (who I find, in fact, is quite annoying) that her interactions with the Shadow King is being overpowered. Myron

Two books have made me cry in one day. Im so damn sappy, I know.

First let me say, LOVE that this is a standalone.
Who doesnt love a good ol standalone novel? We get to start reading an incredible story, read the meat of it, get to the heart of the matter, & end with a thrilling conclusion ALL AT ONCE! The author paced it pretty perfectly as well.

I really enjoyed this one! I loved Levenseller's writing in her previous books so I had a feeling that I would enjoy this one as well. When I saw the cover and read the synopsis, I couldnt do enough to get my hands of this book, friends. I am such a fan of books with a heroine whos cunning and goes after what she wants.

Alessandra was my kind of girl. Shes killed, isnt afraid of her sexuality in a world that wants her to be, and was so vindictive. I couldnt help but admire her. She made a plan
