This book is actually a reprint from '07...surprised me. I have to break this one down.

Angela Knight "Dragon Dance"- 3 stars.
Weird. I have no other word for it. Just weird.

Diane Whiteside "Caught By Tides"-2 stars.
Not such a fan of Diane Whiteside. It was boring and confusing. Girl sees emergency beacon on beach from mage ring, mage is unconscious, and super hot. They combine magic, beat Napoleon's mages, and live HEA

Emma Holly "Queen of all she Surveys"-1 star.

From Beyond the Dark Antho...

Okay, here's the thing. I'm not a big antho fan. I know what they are- nothing more than a marketing tool with a short story by one author I do like in order to get me to read a short by an unknown before the release of unknown's new book. Yet I fall for it, because, dangit, I can't resist a story by an author I love.

I broke it down per story, so here goes:

In a Wolf's Embrace by Lora Leigh

A cabin romance, Matthias- one of LL's Wolf breeds, has known Grace as his mate
Story available in print format in Beyond the Dark anthology.

Merged review:

- 'In a Wolf’s Embrace' by Lora Leigh (5 stars)

Did Not Finish:
- 'Dragon Dance' by Angela Knight
- 'Caught by the Tides' by Diane Whiteside
- 'Queen of All She Surveys' by Emma Holly

This was a shorter book, but just as good. Loved the characters, loved the story.

Recommends it for: Lora Leigh's fans, Breed fans, maybe Angela Knight's fans
Dragon Dance by Angela Knight
I don’t particularly like stories about super-power infected humans, but Angela Knight does it with such style and certain panache, I just can’t hold the theme choice against her. As with all things Knight the steam is up in the stratosphere, and the leather-clad hunks and that chops licking tiger sticking his head out of Tracker’s chest more than compensate for the whole aliens-did-it hoopla.

Caught by the Tides by Diane Whiteside

I'd read 2 of the authors in this anthology before, so I figured I'd enjoy at least their stories. Surprisingly, this was a fairly strong anthology, perhaps because it felt like the stories were longer than the usual short story format. It also introduced me to a new writer who's works I will have to investigate further.

Now--to "grading" the individual stories:

Dragon Dance by Angela Knight. This story was not set in any of the previous worlds that I'd read by her, but I have to admit--I really h

The first two stories (Knight & Whiteside) I give about a 3....the other two (Holly & Leigh) I give a 5. That's why this is a four overall. Even the first two stories are good though. This is well worth the time to read, and for novellas the story lines are pretty well developed. The first two are pretty good but the second two blow are much better. The hot steamy scenes of the second two are great, typical of Emma Holly and Lora Leigh. Leigh's story is the Breed Series #13, but you don't have t ...more

I only read Lora Leigh's story. I found it to be a sweet addition to the Breed Series.
I posted this ages ago but I remember I'd only read the Breed short story by Lora Leigh...

I had this book packed away after a move for far too long. I love Angela Knight's erotic paranormal and SciFi novels, so her story in this anthology was the delightful read I expected. She can write the hottest sex scenes. Whew! Enjoyed all of the other stories, too. Lora Leigh's story tugged at my emotions so hard, I cried for the hero, Matthias. He earned every bit of his happiness. This anthology is so much fun to read.

5 stars for one story. 2 and 3 stars for the other stories.

This book contains the following four stories.

5 stars for DRAGON'S DANCE by Angela Knight.
Creative, new, different, fun. Humans with special powers are called Hypers. Some are good and some are bad. I don't want to give away some of the fun surprises, so I won't tell any more of the story, other than it was well done and worth buying. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: three. Setting: current day Blue Ridge Mountain area in

An anthology of four sizzling, erotic tales of the paranormal from Lora Leigh, Angela Knight, Diane Whiteside, and Emma Holly.

"Queen of All She Surveys" (Tales of the Demon World, 5)
"In a Wolf's Embrace" (Breeds, 13 although I think this should come before "Kiss of Heat" (Breeds, 4)

The Stories
Angela Knight's "Dragon Dance" is a tale of invasion and super powers as we follow a hostage negotiator, Arial Dean, attempting to save a mother and her children from her crazed husband. A Hyper. Who
Dragon Dance By Angela Knight
4-stars. This was so amusing. Loved the ideas on how they got their powers and I LOVED Arial's powers. Was great for such a short story.

Caught by the Tides By Diane Whiteside
1-star. I could barely get through the first chapter. I was so bored.

Queen of All She Surveys By Emma Holly
3.5-stars. wowza well the sex was steamy. The lore didnt really make sense but it was still an entertain read.

This is the first time that I have read any authors in this book and I bought it because the synopsis on the back looked good. I was disappointed in what I read and although I know that the writers were restricted by the number of pages they had to work with (novella length) none of them managed to develop an entertaining story. Because the book was marketed as paranormal erotica the stories all had that as the main focus but the sex scenes were not tied to cohesive and plausible narratives. I a ...more

The Lora Leigh story in this anthology is what earns this entire book five stars. It made me cry and that's a good thing. I absolutely adore the hero.

I enjoyed all four stories. Emma Holly's was super hot - the most different "romantic" scenes I've read so far. I really liked all four stories.

I only read the Breeds story and based my rating on that alone. I loved how he wanted her to give her heart to him without the influence of the "mating heat" so he refused to touch her.

Rated for the Lora Leigh 'Breeds' story - my opinion, this novella is to me the best book of the entire 'Breeds' series so far. The characters' actions and reactions are believable within the scope of the world, neither of them are TSTL, the male isn't obnoxiously alpha (a failing common in this series) and the female isn't obnoxiously stubborn (another failing common in this series).

My favorite part (view spoiler)

I chose to read this anthology because I wanted to read Lora Leigh’s In a Wolf’s Embrace, part is her Breed series. I went ahead and read the other 3 stories so I can review them all.
Dragon Dance by Angela Knight: This was the first book I read by Angela Knight, and it spurred me to read some of her other books. There was an interesting twist on how the characters achieved their paranormal powers. Very creative.

Caught By the Tides by Diane Whiteside: An historical piece about European Magick w

This was the only the 2nd book to show exteneded family and it was so sad when they met their daughter's man for the 1st time. Loved how he refused to kiss her until she was ready, so she would have some of her freewill and not be lead by overneed hormones as the kiss would give her. Not to mention, the compromise they made to each other for happier life together in their job choices.

And, the series 2 doctors finally merge...hopefully, with their findings too. I thought i was reading 2 separate

Breeds 10.5
Matthias has been using his mate as an 'in' into the hotel were she works in order to kill one of the scientists that experiment and torture Breeds. She witnesses it, so now Matt is kidnapping her to a remote cabin to try to convince her not to go to the police. If she does, she might not survive the experience. Also, she is his mate, and at this point he only wants her not to see him with repulsion.

I liked it. I liked how her family accepted Matthias with open arms.

Matthias being a breed never knew what it felt like being wanted or loved, but that all changed when Grace came into his life. Grace knee some of the breed world but when she witnesses Matthias assassin her boss everything changes. He kidnapped her and this starts a chain reaction and her world and Matthias will never be the same. one thing for sure is Matthias finally found his home..

I read this anthology for Lora Leigh's breed story and Angela Knight's story. I enjoyed In a Wolf's Embrace very much. Angela Knight's story was okay. The rest were kind of just there. I read them, but more out of obligation.
