I loved how childish and innocent visual is in contrast with brutal bloody story. Locke is suspended after things from first volume, but he needs to get his daughter back and save city from psycho killer maniac. All this with assistance of Spencer and his saucy comments. Action is combined with peeks into Locke's broken and bruised mind climaxing in great finale.

The sequel to Spencer & Locke is even better than the first in my opinion, but it might not be depending on your tastes. The first series was a rather cozy murder mystery. There were few characters, and though a compelling story was unraveling, it remained somewhat realistic in its gritty portrayal of a detective who's barely clinging to sanity.

The second series cranks things up to 11. This is the Terminator 2 to the first series's Terminator. The Aliens to the first series's Alien. Expanding be

Spencer & Locke Volume 1 was one of the best comics of 2017, with a strong hook, well fleshed-out, lovable characters you really wanted to see end up okay, an engaging mystery and art unlike what you'll find nearly anywhere else. And I'm happy to report that Spencer & Locke Volume 2 surpasses it in just about every way.

The book takes a deeper dive into the psychology of series protagonist Detective Locke and digs into the darker implications of his imaginary best friend and partner, Spencer. Ne

The second volume is really the second part of the story, and should probably have been released as one volume. Locke is suspended and under investigation following on from the first part, and Hero is with foster parents, while custody drags on.
Into this comes Roach, a soldier killing off local politicians, and somehow Locke is pulled into it. As Locke is pulled deeper in his madness is echoed by Roaches madness, but where Locke is very much of the Calvin and Hobbes style, Roach is definitely B

Beautiful art, solid plot, and a fantastic concept. Spencer & Locke 2 is a great follow-up to the amazing first series. S&L 2 explores the concept of duality with a menacing villain. It's not perfect, however, due to the inclusion of some unfortunate tropes towards the end of the third issue. S&L 2 is a blast, even if it doesn't quite reach quite as high as the first series. ...more

I don't know if it just wasn't as novel a concept the second time around, but I didn't get into this one as much as the first volume. Still a strong and enjoyable story with solid characters of questionable morality.

I really want to like this - Santiago's art is stylish and versatile, and Pepose weaves some interesting sequences, but the characters (and the circumstances) are too thin and too obvious for it to really work for me.
