Israel/Palestine: How to End the War of 1948

Rate this book
In Israel/Palestine, Reinhart traces the development of the Security Barrier and Israel’s new doctrine of "disengagement," launched in response to a looming Palestinian-majority population. Examining the official record of recent diplomacy, including United States–brokered accords and talks at Camp David, Oslo, and Taba, Reinhart explores the fundamental power imbalances between the negotiating parties and identifies Israel’s strategy of creating facts on the ground to define and complicate the terms of any future settlement.
In this indispensable primer, Reinhart’s searing insight illuminates the current conflict and suggests a path toward change.

Mostly focuses on demonizing the Israeli leaders from the late 90s to early 2000s. A lot of the content was describing politicians acting just like every politician does and making that seem like an argument for Israel being evil. Almost no content about Palestinian leaders or Palestine's stance on the issue even. The aim of the book was blatantly to make Israel sound evil rather than to take reasons why Israel is evil and actually explain them.

When I started this, I knew very little. When I finished it, I knew a lot, but understood very little. I guess that's the point.

I picked up this book to read as a history book but it shocked me how relevant it was. I read the chapter about the Temple Mound the day before the violence this week. So sad and disillusioning what has happened in that region.

Very good account of the politics going on around 2000 or so (with some historical background). Most interesting for peek it gives to not just Israeli politics, but the kinds of games all politicians play to keep us at bay.
