Recommends it for: sci-fi and horror fans
Originally I had this shortstory collection marked down as fantasy, but that was pure ignorance, because I hadn't yet read it.

It's not fantasy! It's science fiction... and its excellent!

Lots of amazing stories here, like the one about the old warmonger returning to earth, only to find it completely changed, so changed that he himself has to change in order to see it again... a truely horrific and sad tale...

These days, Holdstock is best known for his Mythago Wood sequence of novels, beginning with the novel of that name. But he originally started out writing science fiction – in fact, his sf novel Where Time Winds Below is still one of my favourites, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to tell him as much at a con way back in the early 1990s. The 1970s were an especially strong period in British sf. It’s mostly forgotten, or ignored, now, of course, but you had writers like DG Compton, Richard Cowpe ...more

Grosse déception, pour moi qui avais adoré le cycle des Mythagos.

Les nouvelles sont essentiellement de la SF, et de la mauvaise SF si j'ose dire... et les nouvelles de fantasy ne sont pas très abouties non plus. La plupart étaient en plus archi-prévisibles, ce qui est très dommage.

Holdstock était un très bon conteur, mais qui avait besoin de prendre son temps, de descriptions, etc... et là, clairement, le format de la nouvelle n'était pas pour lui.

Mon conseil : zappez ce recueil et attaquez-vou
