Snow White, a.k.a. the Magical-Girl Hunter, is searching for her dear friend Ripple when she's summoned by one of the Three Sages, the Magical Kingdom's highest authority. The Sage asks Snow White to locate a missing magical girl-a simple enough task that ends up throwing her into the middle of a bloody war between two opposing Sage factions. Meanwhile, Princess Deluge is on the warpath, hell-bent on avenging her fallen comrades...which puts her and Snow White's allies in conflict!
I forgot I finished this a long time ago, but never got around to putting in the review... (thank goodness for internet history) but since I'm getting other things out of the way too I thought I might as well do it now.
I did enjoy it, but it was right around here that it started giving me a rather Tower of God feeling; continuing and getting more complex while seeming to perpetuate and perhaps not even go anywhere. Or at least, setting up to go on forever. Also, the translation on these later installments were a bit rougher back then and harder to follow.
As for the story itself? It's still a world I love looking into, but this one featured a lot more teasing of progression than actual progress. It did feature one of the most interesting fights in this series, which for a light novel is pretty good, but in terms of characters it felt a little lacking. Endou has gotten a little bit too used to making their characters expendable, imo... but there's a pretty large cast leftover now that bodes well for the next one.
It's been like 3 months since I last read one of these, but I'm actually coming close to the end of where the light novel has been written, so stay tuned I suppose :>
No matter how much like the protagonist someone seemed, if she died in the middle of the story, that meant she was nothing more than a side character.
*shakes fist at Asari*
The ending! I was not expecting that. My sense of security has been falsified. Well played, good sir. And that quote above. What a perfect way to encapsulate the MGRP series.
Who would've stayed loyal to Deluge after taking my poor Shadow Gale as a hostage? Certainly not me! But despair not, my fellow friends! Deluge is still by our side, and that is something we should all be proud of, right? I didn't like this arc quite a lot, probably the worst -after Unmarked, the first arc that couldn't attract many readers- but it's still a good read! The only arc to which I'm giving a 3.5 . Too bad :/
