Sweet Melody

*REVIEW* ☕☕☕☕
Lately, I just like stories about bakeries and coffee. Sweet Melody is indeed a story about a bakery owned by Lindsay, a young woman with a tragic past. She witnessed the death of her parents dream restaurant, and not long after, they died in a car accident. Now, here she is in a small coastal town in Washington, working to keep her bakery open and pursuing her bi

Sweet Melody is the first book of what I hope develops into a series set in idyllic Seabrook, Washington. On the one hand, the plot is a familiar one – girl meets boy, attraction and friendship soon grow into something more, but certain facts are held back that could crush any chance for a positive outcome – yet the skill and execution of author Heidi McCahan elevates the story to so much more. It’s a fun, heartwarming, emotionally engaging r

Sweet Melody is one of those books that is full of whimsy and has just the right amount of sweetness without giving you a toothache.

Lindsay is the owner of a bakery in the small coastal town of Seabrook in the Pacific Northwest. She’s devoted her life to continuing her parents’ legacy even if it means losing herself along the way.

Rhett is the son of a wealthy businessman and restauranteur. With his song writing career dwindling, he leaves Nashville I hopes of pleasing his father in the family b

I’m excited to kick off the week with Sweet Melody! This was a charming love story, that will bring a smile to your face.

Rhett is trying to make it in Nashville (I always get excited when someone writes about the town I live in!) but when he has no luck, he returns home to Portland, OR. His family owns a successful restaurant chain, so when his Dad asks him to move to a coastal vacation spot to see if they should put a restaurant there, he jumps at the chance! He figures he needs a job to fit in

“It’s everything I never knew I wanted.”

Another sweet and heart-searching book by Heidi McCahan. The author’s writing style, as always, is easy to read and the plot is well-paced and easy to follow. The main characters Rhett and Lindsay are both emotionally broken people but so lovable. Rhett, broken by the world’s and his father’s rejection of his music, becomes unwittingly involved in his step-brother and father’s scheme to expand the family’s restaurant business into a small resort town of Se

UPDATED *Finished listening to the audio book version and it was very good! The narrator did a good job and had a pleasant voice. It was so nice to experience this story through audio this time!*

I really enjoyed this romantic story! Now, this is one of those situations where sometimes I wanted to talk some sense into the hero, Rhett Foster. He could have saved a lot of heartache between himself and Lindsay Carmichael if he had spoken up about who his family was earlier in the book. However, the

“It was worse than she thought.”

That first line may be the case for poor Lindsay but it was definitely not true of Sweet Melody. Heidi McCahan is an author whose backlist I now need to devour as soon as I have time (pardon my slightly-stressed crazed laughter at the thought of free time) and whose future releases will be must-reads for my TBR pile.

Sweet Melody was, in fact, everything I wanted it to be.

I really really enjoyed reading this book. It was such a comfortable and easy read.
Right away I admired the strong spirit and determination of the Lindsay. Despite all she had been through I loved reading about how she was determined to make her dreams of her bakery come through. I loved reading about how hardworking she was. One admirable virtue of hers that strucked me was the way she avoided speaking harshly to people that hurt her. She avoided verbal confrontations when she was sure she wou

Sweet Melody is a sweet story. I loved that it was written surrounding a bakery. I think I was hungry for some dessert the entire audiobook. Lindsay's life hasn't been easy she's had more than a few bumps in the road. And having her own bakery can add more weight. It's her dream to have her bakery take off to add a food truck also. But with competitors in both store front and food truck Lindsay's faith is tested. When she needs part time barista she meets Rhett. When something sparks between the ...more

I listened to the audio book version and it was very enjoyable! The narrator did a nice job and had a pleasant voice. I love audiobooks and listen to many of them and I liked the voice the narrator had.

Lindsay always had dreamed of owning a food truck for basically as far back as she can remember. In order to keep her parents legacy going strong she opens a small bakery. She still is wanting for more, but her small town is offering good profits for her business. She is just nervous that she may

Lindsay Carmichael has dreamed of owning a food truck for as long as she can remember. She's managed to open a small bakery and keep her parents' legacy going through her tasty treats, but she dreams of more. The small tourist town of Seabrook, Oregon, only offers good profits for part of the year, and as summer approaches Lindsay hopes she can make enough to keep her doors open year-round.

A tasty treat

Sweet Melody is delightful and filled with romance.

Lindsay was still reeling from the destruction of her parents' dream closely followed by their death. Feeling compelled to have her bakery succeed to preserve their legacy, she did all that she could. One problem after another seemed to impede her progress.

Rhett felt rejection from his father ever since his mother died when he was a young boy. He never felt he was good enough and did feel like he was constantly being compared unfavo

What I Loved:
This story is set in a bakery, and I loved how much of the story really surrounded this store. It was fun to read about the relationship between the two characters and how it grew during experiences there!

How I Felt:
I love a sweet story, and that's totally what Sweet Melody is! Lindsay owns her bakery and has fallen on some hard times. She's got new competitors to deal with, a barista who can't work due to an injury, and some cruddy reviews to top it off. Her dream of owning her own

Or should I say Audio book review...🤷‍♀️
Anyway I really enjoyed my first audio book experience.
Sweet Melody by @heidimccahan.author brought me to a small town bakery struggling to survive, amidst some tough trails, many yummy sounding recipes, a dash of romance, and a hint of mystery this story made me smile (which I am sure made people look at me oddly while I was running). I think listening to the audio version enhanced the book as I could focus on painting a

Ok, let’s just get this out of the way. If you want to make me a happy reader, then include a couple mentions of my hockey team in your book. Thank you, Heidi McCahan for giving Rhett some Nashville Predators pride.

And while that, ahem sweetened, the story for me, it was just a fun little fact to come across. The heart of Sweet Melody lies in Lindsay’s and Rhett’s challenges and persistence to realize their dreams.

I love when I can relax and enjoy a book that makes me feel good to read it. This one fit that to a "T".

This is a sweet romance about two people who are trying desperately to make their chosen careers work. They both have issues from their pasts that they are hanging on to and need to let go before they can heal and fully move on with their lives.

My heart went out to Rhett. He was dealing with a ton of disappointment and hurt. Nashville left him empty instead of giving him a boost to his music

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

First of all, this is a sweet romance novel that I would consider faith-based. The Christian faith is woven into the framework of the entire story, and I couldn't be happier for that. There is not ANYTHING that is inappropriate, so read this and enjoy.

Secondly, this takes place in Washington State! That's my home state and where I currently live. Mentioning a

I always enjoy reading a clean contemporary romance about someone following their passion and Sweet Melody has two characters learning to follow their dreams! This book read like a comforting Hallmark movie. There is a meet-cute with instant attraction, hidden details, determination, and bumps along the way, and of course a sweet romance.

As this is a Christian romance, there were some moments mentioning God and faith. When religion came up in the book, I was caught off guard. I often tend to thi

It doesn’t get much sweeter than Sweet Melody! This is a fun story with charming characters that make me smile.

Having a bakery backdrop gives it even more points. I love stories with bakeries, diners, and cafes. Perhaps because I love visiting these places in real-life as well. This bakery gives the story depth and a sense of home.

Seabrook is just as charming as its townsfolk. I’d be happy to be a part of this coastal town, and after finishing the story, I feel as if I’ve been there.

The story was cute and sweet. It's set in a small coastal town of Seabrook in Washington. I love that it is a real town. Lindsay owns a bakery but she needs help. In comes, Rhett who seems to be the answer to her prayers until secrets come out. I enjoyed watching their relationship grow and change. Both were people I'd like to be friends with. I liked most of the characters in this book.
I listened to part of this book as an audiobook. It was easy to bounce back and forth between audio and ebook.

Step up for some sweet treats and romance...

Sometimes a person just has to take a break and either read or listen to a sweet romance. Something not to difficult, where the characters have problems but still get their happy ending. Sweet Melody was that for me. I've read quite a bit of mystery/suspense/historical lately so Heidi McCahan's contemporary romance was the break I needed.

I really liked Lindsay, though how she could be nice even to people who were very unpleasant to her was more than I

Sweet Melody was a really cute summer romance. Lindsay is a bakery shop owner in a small tourist town, who wants to open a food truck to expand her business. Enter Rhett, country song writer yet to make it big, who heads home to join the family business. But can they work together or will his secret destroy everything she has?

This is a clean Christian romance that almost precisely followed the typical movie formula that you’ll find on a certain cable network in December, set over summer rather t

Sweet Melody is a delightful story about two adults that come together with baggage of their own and push through to find each other. Lindsey is a small bakery owner that is fighting to make a name for herself in a small town. Rhet is a talented musician that is trying to make a way in music. Bonding over baked goods and difficult past, these two work together to create something sweet.

I give this novel a 3.5 star rating, which is not a bad rating at all. This was a good read, that I listened to

While I can’t say Sweet Melody grabbed me from the beginning, it certainly drew me in slowly, like a fish on a hook, especially after Rhett was introduced. My biggest question was, will Rhett ever finish writing his song? Lindsay is a likable character, who thinks too much and talks too much, but has a big heart and some crazy dreams. When she and Rhett meet, their interactions start out as hilarious and quickly turn into something more serious.

The plot of Sweet Melody is interesting enough, wit

Lindsay and Rhett feature in this sweet contemporary romance set in the northwest in a story of what you don't know can hurt you. Both main characters are wondering what's next for them, hoping to find a way forward in an uncertain future. Through a turn of events, Rhett ends up working for Lindsay but isn't completely honest with her.

While they both fight their attraction but are still pulled together, they come to terms with their pasts and have to learn to let go of the past in order to find

This is a sweet romance that starts out as employer/employee, builds into friendship and finally blossoms into romance. Lindsay is hard-working and focused on fulfilling her dreams. Rhett is trying to get over the loss of a dream and figure out what comes next. The blending of these characters suits this story so well.

Rhett's family is unpleasant, but eventually they try to do the right thing. Lindsay is a bit trusting, but doesn't have many options. They both experience a lot of growth and I e

I’m relatively new to Heidi McCahan and her novels, but after reading Sweet Melody I think I need to go on a reading binge! Sweet Melody is an excellent contemporary romance that I enjoyed from start to end. It reminded me of the very best Hallmark films — the ones where the storyline is highly engaging, the chemistry between the hero and heroine is fierce and palpable from their first meeting, the kisses are sweet and swoon-worthy, and the ending is so satisfying you just can’t help but sigh. I enjoyed this story about a determined young woman who's had her heart broken once and the songwriter who feels he can never make his dad proud. I liked Lindsay's perseverance but did feel like she bit off more than she could chew with buying the food truck. She was also angry at the family who had ruined her parents' business and was pretty bitter toward them. Rhett sounded like a g
