Fantastic book. It captures so many examples of everyday encounters that all Afrikaans expats living in the Netherlands can identify with. It is direct, unapologetic and a book that I could not put down.

As a white Afrikaans person in South Africa, it is a book that makes you ponder long afterwards. It is part travel book, memoir, and love story and I enjoyed the combination. The angst was a bit much sometimes, but I still devoured the book. We are reading it for our book club, and it should elicit some stimulating discussion.

Loooooooove it! I stayed up until 01.30 last night to finish it, this is everything I'm looking for in modern academics. Coetzee was progressive, self-questioning, and the way she portrayed her struggle felt incredibly real. Is somebody already translating this into Dutch? Because I can already think of tons of Dutch people who really need to read this book.

Lekker gelees aan In My Vel!
