Earn your place. Earn your myth.

i don't think it will be useful for me to review this book by focusing on its actual contents, because even if you've read the first book in the trilogy, The Bones of the Earth, it would be confusing as balls. if you feel like reading my review of the first book, it is here, and you can laugh at how hopelessly confused i am by the fantasy genre in general; with its tendency towards unfamiliar names and tropes, and how this book specifically confused me.

I'm blessed... or is it cursed? Either way, it's one hell of a good ride.

We don't get much of the previous novel's MC, but that's okay, because I have no problem with getting back into this wonderfully imagined post-Trauma earth, filled with dark magics, dark hearts, dark forests, dark societies, dark gods, and dark character progression.

Did I mention that it's dark? I mean it's horrorshow dark, and that's exactly what I want and need. Let's take all the good bits from the campy horrors, the scr

Holy child... this is one hell of a series. I've never read anything quite like it and doubt I ever will again, that is, until Scott graces us with even more of his intricately woven plot lines.
The complexity of plot and depth of character progression is phenomenal and anyone who decides to delve into these books will not be disappointed. Morals are blurred and protagonist/antagonist roles are anything but clearly cut, giving it a sense of realism that most grim fantasy or post-apocalyptic horro

Seriously, why hasn't a major motion picture picked Scott up yet and begged him for a contract? I NEED to see this in a motion picture! It would trump any fantasy/scifi/horror movie I've ever seen!

Firstly to those who haven't read book 1, you can absolutely read 2 then book 1. Scott has been careful to tailor it to noobs and seasoned readers of book 1 alike. Thank you! This is a rare trait to find so relish it people!

Scott Hale did not disappoint in his second book that follows from Bones of th

I was asked by the author to be a beta-reader for The Three Heretics at the end of May. As a business owner, I don't always have the amount of time I would like to dedicate to reading. If I would have had it the way I wanted... I probably would have finished this book in a day or two... it's REALLY that good.

Hale's last novel, The Bones of the Earth introduces the reader to an incredibly dark post-apocalyptic Earth. The world is now riddled with nightmarish monsters, wicked landscapes, corrupt m

Found it a little harder to get into than the first book - think there was a little too much going on story arc wise and personally I would have loved a whole book just about the Holy Child...

But it has all the weird darkness and all the dark weirdness that I love - looking forward to more.

"The Three Heretics" by Scott Hale is like coming back to an old friend - I read "The Bones of the Earth" back in July last year, so I was surprised (and pleased) by how easy it was to jump straight back into this series.

This book is a lot darker than the first - there's plenty of gruesomeness for those who love more than a splash of horror - but there's also a lot more humanity on offer here too... and I guess you'll just have to read both books to find out what I mean!

I had some problems with

I don't know how to put my thoughts into words. Other people have expressed how good this series is better than I can (that's how I discovered it). The amazing stories in this books take place in a very rich world and I love going back to it to discover more of the great worldbuilding, characterisation and exquisite plot. There are so many details and wonderful things to explore. Good storytelling, so I'm really happy to keep reading. Even more happy now that the 4th book has a release date! :D ...more

Three heretics was a horrifying and intricate adventure that immediately pulls you within three main characters. Each section of the book made want to know more and more about the universe Scott hale has created. After reading bones of the earth i was immediately wanting a sequel, and boy does this deliver. The story telling and detail to previously mentioned story lines is immaculate. It creates an amazing flow that made me almost never put the book down. The detail's in the book also give so m ...more

"The Three Heretics," is a very good follow-up to "The Bones of the Earth." Heretics is a substantially more ambitious book than Bones, and though it stumbles a bit once in awhile, it is generally very good, especially at the end when everything comes together.

I say that Heretics is more ambitious than Bones because, where Bones was a very linear and swiftly paced story, Heretics offers the reader some non-linear narrative and multiple perspectives. Heretics is made up of three parts, an

I promise you. You have never read such a strange and creative book such as this, where the fantastical is, and the worst of your nightmares come to life.

Welcome to Scott Hales world, The Bones of the Earth series, the second installment entitled, The Three Heretics. I have nothing but good things to say about this tale of macabre and suffering. Now having read the second book, I can truly say Hale possesses a unique voice unlike any other author in the world of horrific fantasy. He was bred for

What a great book! This was really a pleasure to read. Like I said about The Bones of the Earth, this isn’t a book you can skim or breeze through. It really takes some time to read because there are so many important details and pieces of stories that are woven together. Hale does a great job of intertwining the stories without creating too much confusion and I really enjoyed slowly figuring out what is going on and how the stories of different characters play into one another. Scott Hale has always been obsessed with all things horror. While it's not uncommon for his writings to blend multiple genres together, Horror is ever-present, be it in the scenarios themselves, or the uncomfortable truths he dares to explore.

Scott is the demented mastermind behind The Bones of the Earth series. Six books and four years later, the series has come to an end, but his addiction to wr
