The Case of the Chatty Road Runner is the 6th book in the Case of the Corgi Files series, and in my opinion, the best yet. All of the books are good, an enjoyable read: a mystery, likeable characters, plenty of ‘tongue-in-cheek’ humour and 2 smart and adorable Corgis named Sherlock and Watson. Yes, just like the detectives. How can you go wrong, right?

Although each book is a stand alone work, there are threads that wind through all of the stories. One of the main plot arcs from these is the focus of Book 6. It is well written, paced to keep your adrenaline pumping, twists and unexpected turns and it has a satisfying ending. But, not so final that the reader can’t expect to return to Pomme Valley.

Cozy Mysteries haven’t been near the top of my TBR (to be read) list in a long time as my tastes have shifted. But, since this series was written by Jeffrey M Poole, who pens one of my favourite Fantasy series (check out Bakkian Prophecy trilogy and the Lentari Tales series), I thought I would give t a try. I’m really glad I did! If you enjoy a good mystery and adorable dogs, you’ve got to check these tales ... ok I must, tales of tails!

Zack, his Corgis, and two friends go to the Arizona city where his wife's fatal car wreck happened nearly two years ago. Someone had been phoning him in the middle of the night for days and then he was contacted by a PI with the info that it did not seem that the wreck had been a normal accident. The man in the car behind hers had dash cam footage which raised serious questions. So comes the who, how, and why investigated by people and solved by the corgis named Sherlock and Watson!
Loved it! Easily a stand alone.
Bob Johnson aces the narration with just the right touch that highlights the humor by downplaying the guffaws.
I won this audio in a giveaway.

Love me some Corgis

Great series with ever so smart corgis and yes as a breed they really are very smart dogs maybe not as clever as Sherlock. Have enjoyed each book in this series of well developed stories and characters. I look forward to the next instalment when ever it is issued.

Absolutely wonderful story! Sherlock is on the case again. The are working on Zack's wife's accident. Was it an accident or was it something more sinister? Sherlock and Watson will find out. Zack and Vance help some, but this time they get help from an entirely different source! Loved this book. Great job!

Another wonderful mystery! The BEST one yet!

This book kept my attention (as they all do) but I really couldn't put it down, lost some serious sleep time. Please don't wait too long to write another one. This is one fan that will be waiting patiently for book 7! 😇 Mary Arias

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and any opinions expressed herein are my own.

This is the sixth book the Corgi Files series. It is a standalone book with no cliffhanger ending. While it is the sixth book in the series, you do not have to have read any of the prior books in the series to understand the events in this book. The author does provide summaries of any prior events he references to bring you up to speed. Having written that, I would urge you to start with the first book in this very enjoyable series.

In this book, we finally learn about the mystery of Zack's wife, which has been teased at for the entire series thus far. I also enjoyed learning about Zack's life prior to his move to Oregon to take over the winery. As always, I love the antics of the corgis Sherlock and Watson and the addition of the roadrunner. Although, it was a bit of a stretch that the corgis were able to find the internet cafe with a possible suspect inside when they were driving by it - but that's a minor quibble. The series has a lot of heart and humor with just the right amount of depth. I can't wait for the next one.

The narrator, Bob Johnson, is absolutely perfect for this series. He adds a lot of warmth and just the right amount of tongue-in-cheek sarcasm to the story which makes it an incredibly enjoyable listen.

Oh, I really liked this book. This is book 6 in this fun mystery series and yes I have read all of them. So why did I really like this book... Well for starters it helps to answer so many questions from the first 5 books. But don't worry if this is your first time reading this series you will not be lost. Jeffrey Poole does a great job of answering the questions while explaining them if you didn't know what the question was about. Another reason I really liked this book is that it was just the distraction I needed from this crazy shutdown. Sherlock and Watson are so great at what they do that you get all caught up in the story and soon your mind is no longer thinking about the shutdown. And lastly but by no means least is the great narrator Bob Johnson. His voice is wonderful as the voice of this series. His laid back style is so perfect for Zack. You get caught up in the story and are lulled into listening to just one more chapter. I was gifted this audiobook with the understanding that I would leave an honest review. Well, this is my own words and I am grateful for the chance to review "Case of the Chatty Roadrunner".

Yup, pretty sure this is the last one for me. I did want to find out what happened to Samantha, and now that I know, I've had enough. Biggest pet peeve I had in this was Vance calling Samantha VIC, like he's trying to separate himself from her to remain neutral. I would have agreed with that, but in front of her family? I am quite sure police don't call people's loved ones VICs to their faces. That irked me to no end. The story this time was sequential and made sense, so it is an improvement over the last couple of stories. So even though I have a couple more on my reader, I think I will be moving on from them to something else. I may come back, but I will have to be desperate for something to read I think.

Another excellent book by Jeffrey Poole!

It's Scooby-Doo meets a romance novelist.

Yes, that does sound funny. Yes, this book has good comedy in it.

It's a Cozy Murder Mystery. It has heart, a killer voice, and two incredible dogs: Sherlock and Watson. There isn't much that could go wrong.

I love the characters of this book, and the voice of the author.

And let's not forget Bob Johnson's excellent narration for the audio book!

Following immediately on the last book this story sees, Zack, the Corgies and his friends heading off to Phoenix to follow up on his 3:30 a.m. telephone call regarding his wife's death.
The characters are interesting, the dogs are adorable and although the story deals with some very heavy issues, including murder, the story is an entertaining, light hearted read.
I love this series and this book.

Best one yet

I love the Corgi Case Files and this was the best tale yet. Zach, Jillian, Vance, Sherlock, and Watson head to Phoenix after Zach gets an anonymous tip that his wife's death may not have been an accident. The corgis are on the job, so their humans need to pay attention. The story is well-written and the characters feel like friends. I'm ready for the next book.

Yet another book. I couldn't put down.!

The Corgi Case Files are a great read. The idea that two dogs solve the cases is both original and intriguing. I must say I look forward to these books and hearing more about Zach and his dogs. Whatever will they get involved in next!

This is the last in the series so far (2019) where Zack travels back to his previous home to see if he can find out what really happened to his wife Samantha, was she killed in a tragic accident or was it something more sinister? As ever, his 2 corgi friends are by his side along with Jillian and his good friend Vance. Will be be able to finally lay his wife's soul to rest?

I really enjoyed reading this book and am hoping for more in the series in the future. ..

Zack, Jillian, the corgis and Vance travel to Phoenix to see if they can learn what happened to Zack's late wife, Samantha. This one has action and lots of emotion, and of course the corgis are in top form searching out the clues. I loved it!
