Just a girl who loves pushing boundaries in original, addictive noir/dark fiction with genre-busting elements from dark romance, romantic suspense, psychological thriller, mafia, MC, and realism. Intense, thought-provoking, edge-of-your-seat, gripping page-turners that stick with you long after the last sentence. TAT Books are the perfect escape with a delicious beverage, a box of chocolate, and plenty of tissues.

Dear Readers (Raniero Fangirls) have come to expect my emotionally crippling writing style.

I finished A Dark Place hours ago, and since then I've been trying to process all the emotions Mrs Samuels evoked in this fifth opus of the Tomb of Ashen Tears series.
What to say, and how to say it when it comes to reviewing such a maddening masterpiece?

"We’re secrets in salvation, worshipping the only soldier— an invisible magic—balanced between a Dom and sub."

Only reading the title, you can already trust the author to immerse you into the pitch-black depths of her Art.
The intensity of the atmosphere captivated me from the get go, and from then, it was a limitless emotional rollercoaster. Embarking on a trip around the word, Sal, Deacon and Iris found themselves challenged and pushed to their limits in that power war.

"Disciplined only to itself. Dangerous when disregarded. Uncontrolled when disrespected."

The key word of this opus is LIES. Big lies. White lies. Lies to harm, to protect. Power, greed, love...In Sal Raniero's underground world, everyone has their truths, adding their own knots to the already beautifully woven shibari scenario. Oh...The intricacy and delicatess of the design is pure genius.
Undoubtedly, with the lies, questions will arise, while doubts will grip you. Who are the allies, the true villains? If you are familiar with KRS' approach, you know the answers to these questions, though! (Shh!!)

"A woman must play dirty in her service. A woman must keep secrets to preserve the future."

In A dark place, the revelations will either slap you in the face or sneakily tighten around you. Either way, the twists had me both smiling and screaming. I could feel the chill when the betrayal hit, followed by the sizzling rage when it kicked in. The chilly loneliness was palpable when the tension reached scorching levels. And when it's time to serve a frosty revenge, the blood flows red and boiling.

"The waters will flood. Uncontained. Violent. Destructive."

My favorite trio (SDI) proved to be more volatile and calculated than ever. They adapt, they evolve, and they take what is theirs to take. They provoke the opportunities, they stand with magnificence amongst the chaos, and shine, dancing in the darkness. Even at their lowest, they'll find the spark to hold on to. I absolutely loved their newfound maturity. That doesn't mean their trio doesn't encounter issues: their competitive natures, the lack of communication, mixed with their obligations as the leaders of their own outfits brings more violence and threats to their doorstep.
Be prepared (if it were even possible), their frenzied tango definitely rhymes with danger! I savoured every passionate word, sipped every drop of the exquisite and raw (sometimes desperate) sensuality.

"I am harder than a fucking stone, sandwiched by an assassin with his dick ring glossing over my lips and Satan’s spawn of a Saint at the rear. Stop thinking. Start feeling."

I sometimes wonder if this crazy journey is going to end, yes, but, always with a huge devilish grin ... Please, Dear Author, make it last forever! TAT#6, Forbidden Sins...I am already waiting for you!!!

I VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED AN ARC COPY OF THIS BOOK. THANK YOU!!!

I just finished this absolutely wondrous new installment to the story of Sal Raniero, Iris the Lotus Queen, and Deacon Cruz, et al. Let me take a moment to gather myself. I’m rather scattered at the moment. But I wanted to write this review while it was still fresh. Wow, just wow.

On one of the first pages is a quote by Rudyard Kipling which states: A woman’s guess is much more accurate than a man’s certainty. I have to say that this grabbed my attention immediately, and it was very apropos.

Let me preface this review with my feelings and opinions regarding the writing of Kailee Reese Samuels. There are a few authors that I read regularly, and they are all excellent in their own individual ways. But Ms. Samuels is exceptional in my mind. She takes me on journeys that are unique, spell-binding and often heart breaking. She has the ability to tear open my heart and force me to go beyond my comfort zone into some very dark realms, to later lift me out once again. She writes deeply, succinctly, with an expert pen. Her tomes (and they are tomes) are extensive as she prefers to give us an entire story at once rather than breaking them down into short books in a series. I appreciate this very much.

This time around, Kailee presents to us an addition to the Sal saga entitled A Dark Place, and my oh my it surely is. He is after all my sigh-worthy hero. There were moments when I had to put the story down and give myself a respite. This is a dark Mafia world and not one for the faint of heart. The men are true to their shadowy natures and the women are quite strong and resilient. This is a story that adheres to no set rules or boundaries. I loved every page.

The Monster, the Saint and the Angel are beautiful, terrifying and incredibly effective. They are out for revenge and nothing will bar them, nothing. It is an amazing story and one you won’t want to miss. Highly, highly, highly recommended.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review.

He doesn't need training. He doesn't need practice. The invitation dropped in his hand. One he cannot refuse. There will be no shame amongst the famiglia. No boundaries. Not rules. A dark place awaits for a rebellious monster.

This is the fifth book in the Tom of Ashen Tears and a dark mafia romance. You need to read the first four books and those include: Salt Kissed Love. Famous Last Words. Every Minute I Love You, and Diary of a Submissive. These book are all equally amazing and will have you reading them as fast as you can. I will say too that these are not short books. They are long but they do not feel like long books at all you will be so engrossed in the story and what is going on. I don't think that I have ever closed one of these books without my mind being blown and the same can be said for A Dark Place. This too is the continuing story of Sal. Love him or hate him I don't think as a reader we can ever get enough of this guy we love and sometimes hate in equal measure. I also don't know how to review this book and not give something away from the story that might ruin something for everyone. As you know this is a dark romance and that will hold triggers for some and as I have been reading these books for a while they are certainly not for the faint of heart but they are so worth taking the chance on. I love dark romances. I love how they push me and my buttons and at times make me question my sanity. I had to lay this one down and take a break a time or two and process what I am reading. But those breaks never ever lasted for long. I couldn't wait to pick this book back up and read some more. There are not rules or boundaries that aren't pushed in this book. It is dark and gritty and delicious and so so good. I think that Kailee Reese Samuels has written some fantastic characters that your going to love spending time with. I too have this thing where I love me some Sal but I after this book think that Deacon is sealing his place in my heart. That man I swear....the things he can do to a woman!!! Do not miss this or any of these books in this series. The Angel, The Monster and The Saint have a story to tell and you don't want to miss it!!

"Journey my ass... this is like a trip to Mars on an untested rocket with the crazy uncle at the stick, and a face eating chimp riding shotgun!"

This was a comment I made to fellow ARC readers when I was about 1/4 of the way in. The rest of the book did not disappoint.

This is a romanitc dark mafia suspense thriller that is not for the weak. I challenge anyone to read this series and become completely engrossed in it. Sal, Deacon, and Iris will feel like part of your family. You will laugh with them, cry with them, love with them, and bleed with them.

The best book I've read this year!

Nothing I write will give this story the justice it truly deserves. All I can say is my mind is blown and wow...just wow. Another rollercoaster of a ride with my favorite guys that leaves you breathless throughout. KRS is a masterful storyteller who pulls everything out of you and no amount of alcohol or chocolate will help you along this journey. A major hangover will ensue so be prepared for this dark tale that is so damn good you will not be able to even formulate words. Just read it. She never disappoints.

Warning: If you do not like dark romance, violence, or complicated yet enthralling plots, this book is not for you. But if you dare, you will be satisfied. And mildly stalkerish.

Sal Raniero is a man among men. It is too hard to explain Sal, unless you've read the previous books. Complicated beyond measure, Sal's world is an everchanging mix of twists, turns and power struggles. His only constants are Cruz and Iris. This group faces even more challenges when those relationships are challenged by known and unknown forces. Lies, betrayal, sex and power.

Kailee Reese Samuels has a knack of writing complex plots full of powerful and sexy characters that keep you guessing. My emotions are all over the place. Things I knew were "true" were false. Alliances are shattered. Unholy unions put into play. The truth? A mirage.

This book has me once again proudly declaring myself a Sal groupie. I sit here with baited breath waiting to see what happens next. I need more Sal like I need oxygen.

“Desolate roads lead to nowhere and yet...everywhere.”

KRS managed to rip my freaking heart out and butcher it to tiny little pieces. I cannot even process my emotions enough to write a full review at the moment. I don’t think I have ever had a book affect me this much in my life. I’m a complete freaking mess. I don’t know how I feel right now...broken and confused. My heart actually hurts. IT PHYSICALLY HURTS!!! This one is brutal so be prepared because it will destroy you in a way that no other book has before.

“My scars won’t be forgotten.”

Full review to come.

As normal I have no idea where to begin. My heart and head ache. Sal, Iris, and Deacon continue to steal my heart with their strength, growth, and hotter then hell chemistry and faith. This author continues to make me hunger for more. ADP has a plethora of emotional highs and lows. Tests your intelligence and memory then twists it in a million directions and when you think you got it, you really don't. I absolutely can not wait for more, an absolute must read and reread.

We will never be the same.

The journey continues in book 5. The trio is back! Sal, Deacon and Iris take us on a ride we will not soon forget. The lies and secrets run deep.

You are the devil, Raniero

It never fails that I find myself mind blown and at a loss for words after reading a TAT book. Wishing I had the words to write a review worthy of this book. My head is still spinning. This one is raw, gritty, it flat out hurts. Physically and emotionally hurts. These characters, this world KRS has given us you don’t just read... you live with them. I can’t wait for more of the trio!

Hurt mine; suffer in red.

We do not quit.

Have comfort things at the ready before reading...

This latest Tomb of Ashen Tears, Book 5, will absolutely destroy you – in the best of ways – emotionally, psychologically, and physically. If you’re reading this review, then you have been living in the TAT world for quite some time, but don’t be fooled into thinking you can predict what happens in this latest tome … go into this with an absolutely open mind. This is truly a character study of everyone involved, and I do mean everyone, from the past to the present and also the addition of new intriguing characters. So much information is revealed about everyone involved, things you will never see coming, and you will no doubt be in shock.
I could make this review a lot longer but I feel the best thing to do is to just dive in … you’ve come this far along on this fantastical journey with all of us loyal followers, take the plunge into deeper and darker waters and just keep swimming … and remember, don’t rush the journey, take pauses to breathe and process and absorb everything. It is so worth everything you will experience …

“We weren’t navigating our lives; life was navigating us.”

I find that I cannot adequately review this one to give it the respect it deserves. Every page leads to more secrets and more action. And because I cannot properly review this, I want to talk about something that seems irrelevant but will eventually get to a point. (I hope)

When I watch a drama show, I always look at the whole and decide which character has evolved the most. I'm going to use GoT for an example. I choose Theon because he’s flawed, but he’s an ever-changing landscape, and while he’s sometimes in the background, the moments he’s at the forefront are powerful. His role is every bit as important to the show. Without spoiling anything, I will say that Amber is Theon. And I left this book in awe at how far she’s come.

I always think there mustn’t be any more to the puzzle, and then Kailee goes and dumps 1100 pieces (or pages in this case) onto the board, and it’s time to put it back together again.

“We are blind, bound into the fleeting fight, until a new clarity glides into view and our perspective shifts.” It’s an ever-changing landscape in so many ways. This one is a wild ride, nicely done.

It's been a while since I've read about these characters, so I felt I was going in a little blind. It took me several pages in to gather my memories and tuck myself in. Deacon, Sal, and Iris have that amazing chemistry everyone longs to find, but the pain they must go through with and for each other is excruciating. When one is cut, they all bleed. If you are new to these characters, theirs is not a conventional relationship. It's wild and dirty and spontaneous and crazy. There's so much going on, I need a coffee break throughout the book to come back to normal for a while. Do people really live like this? I think they may and that's why there's Xanax in the back of the top shelf, I'm guessing. Be prepared for a surprise, or twelve, in this story, as in all Ms. Samuels stories. I may be getting too old for these stories. I seriously feel the need for a strong coffee and quite possibly confession.

This author sure knows how to make writing a review difficult. Each book she writes I love even more than the previous book and then I’m struggling even more to find the words to write a review that this book deserves.

A Dark Place is book five in A Tomb of Ashen Tears series. You seriously need to read all these books in order- you won’t regret it.

Sal, Deacon and Iris story continues and what a story it is. I can’t possibly talk about the storyline. Seriously you need to read this for yourself- let the author mess with your head like she did with mine.

These are fabulous sized stories- no quickies with this author. Expect the unexpected with this author....nothing is ever as it seems.

A Dark Place isn’t a story for everyone so be warned. If you enjoy dark romantic mafia stories then I highly recommend you read this!!!

Kailee really comes out swinging in this newest installment! SDI continue to surprise, shock, and excite me as they navigate over and over new twists, turns and f'ed up situations! The witty banter between Sal and Deacon is on a whole new level and Iris' B-A Queen behavior reaches an all time height! Their unholy bond is stronger than ever and anyone who tries to get in the way...look out! Beware of the crowbar.
There have been several times I've had to take a break and breathe and other times when I had to turn my fan up to high because it was so hot! A Dark Place is full of angst, heartache and more emotional upheaval than I can say. There isn't enough I can say to give this book and Ms. Kailee's highly coveted words the respect it deserves. Every book has been better and better. Thank you, Ma'am.

What can I say this was a real ride of a story again Kailee has us on an emotional rollercoaster. She has a way with her words to make you become invested in every character . I love the dynamic between Sal, Iris and Deacon and the love they have for each other even though it gets twisted.
The story takes you deeper into the way of life they all lead, I am an emotional wreak and love it. I will be rereading this one again there is so much that you want to replay.

What a thrill ride. I have never had a writer make me love then hate then love a character again the way Ms. Samuels does. This book had my emotions all over the place. I can’t get enough of her writing. You will not be disappointed by this book. I highly suggest you read the first four in this series before jumping into this bad boy.

I first met Sal and Iris in a "little" book called Juliet and quickly became obsessed! Deacon Cruz popped in along the way and the three of them have been chaos ever since. This is book 5 in the Tomb of Ashen Tears series and OMFG, it gets better and better! These three have a love and bond the likes you've never read about, and lord help anyone who does the other wrong or hurts them... There WILL be blood spilt. This book was hard to read at times and had to step away, the betrayals, the pain made you want to scream, the Holy Hotness of these three will have you grabbing a towel and icepack to cool down. Iris is a force of nature and a Queen to Sal, if Sal is King, then does that make Deacon the dark and dirty Prince? This story or this series is not for the faint of heart, and if your looking for sweet and romantic, run!! This is gripping, emotional, raw, dirty, painful and so much more!! Long Live the Unholy Three!! Thank you Ms. Samuels for each and every book!!

A Dark Place took me on a twisted but oh so delicious journey with Sal, Iris and Deacon holding me captive and pulling me into the story leaving me with a major book hangover. If you have ever read a KRS book then you know what I mean. If you haven't then you are missing out on how fantastic she writes and how unforgettable the characters are. With every book I read I am left speechless, wondering how she does it and when can I get the next book. I don't want to give away any spoilers but I will say WOW, just WOW! Thank you Kailee for another captivating, heartbreakingly beautiful read.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Wow, what can I say! In this pulse-pounding ride, packed with murder, mystery, drama, suspense, kidnapping, and passion continue to keep you glued to the pages of this fascinating story. A Dark Place is book 5 of the Tomb of Ashen Tears, a dark mafia romance that is so intriguing with its twists and turns—some you see coming, some you don’t. This story lulled me into a false sense of security, thinking the story was going to go one way when BAM—out of nowhere, I was flabbergasted with the unexpected revelations that happened, but it is jaw-dropping good! With all the things going on with Lucas Salvatore (Sal) Raniero, Deacon Cruz, and Iris Nakamura Raniero, I was holding my breathe because it was a tangled mess of lies and secrets. It was amazing and my blood was pumping like crazy reading this story. It is like the fog is sucked away from my mind like smoke through a vacuum, then slowly with the truth comes dark secrets to be revealed, but do not put all your eggs in one basket because there will be chaos in its truest form. You don’t know what is going to happen until it’s over!! They will fascinate you and frustrate you at the same time. Lines will be crossed, secrets will be revealed. Will Sal, Deacon, and Iris be able to get past all the abhorrent circumstances that caused a lot of pain? Kailee Samuels took me through several emotional gamut’s and pushed all my buttons. I feel like I got off a crazy roller coaster ride from hell! I felt everything Iris was going through with Sal and Deacon. I was enthralled from start to finish. But at the end of the day, Kailee Samuels is an amazing story teller where her stories will captivate you. Kailee Samuels delivered a powerful, addictive, intriguing, and all-consuming story that left me obsessed and yearning for more. I highly RECOMMEND this book!

Wow what a book!!!!!! Took me a while to gather myself at the end of this and throughout to be honest, I had to put my kindle down a fair few times and come back to the story. But oh my gosh what a story it is!!!!!

So we're of course with Sal, Iris and Cruz again, the connection these three have had over the course of these books has only grown so much again. You feel their pain, sorrow and most of all their love for each other, and you feel everything that goes in to this book. And let me tell you that's down to Kailee, the way she writes the characters and the story has always had my mind blown on how she can pull you right in and put you in the heart of the story. Kailee has been my unicorn author right from the very start and every book just gets me super duper excited!!!!! Yes her books are long, but I'd rather have the story fully then it bring broken down in to a million little books.

This book is titled A Dark Place and believe me it will take you there. Sal is my favourite book boyfriend but oh dear lord does Cruz come a close second, the relationship and chemistry these two have is just smoking hot, then place Iris in the middle and eeesssshhhhhh, Fan me down!!!!!!!!! So much happens in this book it's unreal so yes I had to put my kindle down and have to get me a glass of wine ( oh who am I kidding it was a bottle ) lolol and come back to it but...... I always came back to the book.

Thank you Kailee for an awesome book and journey with these three and now all I ask is...... Is book 6 ready yet, I may need to stock up on more wine lol?? But honestly I do whole heartedly recommend this series to you.

And to think, some of us find comfort in reading! With this book, hell with this Series, I don't recommend getting too comfortable. You will definitely feel like Alice who fell down that hole or into the looking glass. Whichever way you get there it will be a spectacularly emotional journey!
Sal Raniero, Deacan Cruz and Iris Nakamura will keep you astounded by the emotional rollercoaster ride they intend to take you on.
If this is your first foray into the world of Sal, you need to buckle up a prepare for the ride of your life, and I recommend going back and reading the rest of this Series to catch up and see the hidden stories behind each and every character that this book entails.
If you have read all that has led to this Tomb of Tears book, then Bless Your Heart!! Darlin, this is the one you have been waiting for!!
Make sure to have all the necessary supplies on hand, I recommend something to hold and hug in some chapters. No matter how distressed you get, Do Not, REPEAT - DO NOT - THROW YOUR READING DEVICE!!
Step Back, Take a Breathe and Continue, it is so worth it.
Kailee Reese Samuels is an amazing Writer, she drags you along on some of the most Magical, Terrifying, Beautifully Horrifying Journeys I have ever encountered. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
Her Books, her world, her words have helped me through some of the Toughest, Darkest most Difficult Times of my Life
Thank You Sweet Writer for Helping Me through Life.
I recommend this Book, this Series to anyone and everyone just trying to get through this life one day at a time!!

Oh my, I'm once again taken by the power, the beauty and the darkness of all that is Sal, Deacon and Iris. This book, as well as the other TAT books, are all written with depth, with heart and soul, and with sacrifices made. I loved how each little morsel about my favorite trio was set out, crumb by crumb, for me to find and savor. My heart burned brightly hot, then went dark and cold, only to burn bright once again.

I've loved Sal for so long, and Deacon too, although I feel like his heart could never really be mine. And Iris, well, she is simply amazing. Nothing gets these three down for too long, even when their backs are up against the wall. Their strengths keep them pushing back, crossing blurred lines to win at all costs. But that's what makes this saga so awesome! When a book takes everything I thought I knew and throws them out the window, only to come back and restore my faith, I know I've found home. And it's here with Sal, always.

DEACON m effing CRUZ!!!!
I had to start this review with that, because no matter I kneel at the thrown of Sal, no matter I bow to the Bad A Queen Iris, I genuflect to the alter of Deacon Cruz!!! This Unholy Trinity brings me to my knees every single fricken time!!! I am never prepared going into these ToAT pamphlets, not once have i been properly buckled up or tied down. There is no "enjoying" this ride. You hold tight and hope that all your pieces landed close enough together that you can glue your self back together. KRS has to have made it her mission to destroy her readers piece by piece she will take your soul and feed it to the trinity. WE ARE NOT WORTHY!!!! okay im dramatic,  but not wrong. Book 5 will tear you apart. It is raw! It is passion! It is HOT!!! KRS never dissapoints and as always each book is better than the last!

And WOW!!!!! Exactly what I expected from Kaliee Reese Samuels. This series is absolutely dangerous. From alpha women to their alpha men. One thing I do want to say is, even though this is a mafia series, the women are up front and present. I love how Kailee has take charge women.
This book has Iris, she's the Lotus and one of the most dangerous people in this series. Her husband Sal, that man is everything. He's hot, sexy and a killer. Of course there's Deacon, the right hand man, the fixer, the third to Iris and Sal. This man is unstoppable.
So what happens? You'll just have to get this book and dive in. I honestly can't say enough about this book and series. I love mafia books and Kailee Reese Samuels really does them justice.

Forget everything you thought you knew before because you are about to enter the exact title...a dark place! This KRS train continues with Sal, Deacon and Iris and as usual I am at a loss for words! Love, loyalty and betrayal..you fell in love and thought you knew someone...nope guess again! Sal is putting all the puzzle pieces of his life together and the results will blow you away. I thought I knew who to trust..I was so wrong! I am giving nothing away with this one but if you have been on this journey then you know all the players and now you will see just who is on Team Raniero. Prepare your heart because it may never recover!

A Dark Place was an emotional rollercoaster story, the plot was dark and packed with so many emotions that'll leave you all over the place, the story was written well. Kailee Reese Samuels did a great job on the book. Nothing about Sal, Iris and Deacon's journey was easy, their journey had many ups and downs, they were fighters, they were strong characters. The bond, the connection, the chemistry was strong, they were drawn to each other.
This was a great story, I enjoyed it, looking forward to reading more.
Thank you, Kailee Reese Samuels. Great work :)
