In amidst a year+ of working from home and having umpteen gazillion video conferences a week, I've discovered a) it reduces my wardrobe needs to about zero, and b) it makes focusing on small stitches for both clothes sewing and embroidery much more difficult. I'm not sewing clothes at all right now, and I now rest my eyes, regularly and frequently, including staring into the middle distance and also including slowing waaaay down on the kind of handwork I love. Sigh.

Happily, crochet (at least, if

My first reaction was meh. According to the cover it explains the differences between Japanese and Western crochet styles. I didn't really see that. I found it oddly structured, and full of stitches I had seen/used before. There aren't that many patterns and as often happens most of them didn't appeal to me. As I looked closer with an eye toward making a couple of the patterns, I did see that there were some approaches to using the stitches that I hadn't seen before. For example, the cover photo ...more

The patterns are gorgeous but the instructions are like looking at an Ikea diagram. I got this from the library and after looking at the intro pictures, I was convinced I would buy it for myself. Then I got to the instructions and frustratingly had no idea how to even start. Instead of words and number of stitches needed, you are left with 3 point form notes on how to approach the pattern, then a schematic with measurements and I think the number of stitches next to the centimeters. Some pattern ...more

I've found the craft books I've read from Tuttle Publishing are meticulous and this one is no exception. Although there are only a couple or three patterns I would attempt, this book has some pretty impressive pieces in it and stitches I'd never seen or worked in a totally different way. The Crocodile stitch bag (the project I'd most likely attempt) and the reversible crochet patterns are amazing. But this is no beginner, or maybe even intermediate, crochet book. You must understand crochet stit ...more

One of the best kindle crochet book that I have come across. This publisher has used the latest tools to enable you to get the most from this publication. I can zoom in on the graphics, just brilliant. If you enjoy this craft I recommend will not be disappointed. A real excellent reference tool.

For experts and designers

Directions were not easy to follow. Such beautiful patterns but the possibility of creating them is not high. But was not detailed enough for those ready for intermediate level work. More for experts and designers.

This is a great crochet book for experienced crocheters wanting to learn new ways with old familiar stitches. The new "ways" produce interesting patterns. Got this from the library not expecting much but pleasantly surprised. Must buy this for myself. ...more

One of my favorite crochet books, but the charts are extremely small and low-contrast. Not recommended if you have vision issues.

Too hard for my crochet skill-set. Could have been improved with more explanation of the special stiches in each project.
