This is a book I should've dnf-ed at the very beginning, because the writing was boring me to no end. But I thought it would get better when the story got going...and it didn't.
There's a lot of repetition, the characters are just there and I really didn't like anything about this. Actually no, the premise was interesting and I liked that until I got to the execution.
Also, this is an UPDATED edition? If that's so, then I don't even want to know what the original version was like.

Not bad, not good, like Ivy, it's in between.
The idea is good and I'm all in when reverse harem meets urban fantasy. Unfortunately, the result is kinda meh. There are no struggle, no suspense, nothing really exciting and everything goes well for the heroine. More bumps on the road would make the lot way more interesting.

Excellent storyline
Brilliant start to the series, definitely a slow burn but this adds alot of character building. I love that there's an underlying story and not just focused on their relationships. I didn't quite give five stars because it's all fade to black, so no sex scenes. I'd class it as a slow burn YA reverse harem. Looking forward to reading the second book to see how the harem develops!

Not gonna lie this book was bleh for me which I’m really disappointed in. I love paranormal so the fact that this didn’t do it for me really bums me out.
Typically I can over look a lot of things but the repetition was killing me in the beginning. Her constant mention of being killed was making me want to DNF this book no lie. It was also really overly explained and killed a lot of the mystery and suspense for me.
I liked the characters some more than others but I feel like some fell flat while other I just didn’t feel the connection between them. I feel like the world was very, how do I put it, uninteresting? There wasn’t really anything outstanding for me with this book. I could see the direction and potential but it just really dragged for me and didn’t really offer anything new.
In saying all this, and I feel really bad for doing so, I will be checking out book 2 at one point and maybe give this book another chance by rereading at a later date but for right now it fell flat for me.

When I read the blurb about this book I was intrigued, then I started reading it and got sucked in and couldn't stop. This is a twist that I have not come across and I am eager to see where it goes. Ivy is dead, sorta. And her boss killed her, sorta, but he also tried to save her and he finds her attractive and well you need to read the book already... you have mystery, humor sexy men and snarky women what more could you ask for

Slowbuild FTB RH with an FMC that is a unique supernatural. Decent read but nothing thar really holds my attention enough for me to continue reading the story.

This is an amazing book that had me hooked from the very beginning. I could not put it down. It moved along at an amazing pace which made for an enjoyable read. The characters are so real that you feel as though you know them personally and no matter what you want to be there to help them succeed and overcome whatever may be in their way. The story will grab you and not let you go. You have to keep reading, you will not be able to stop until you finish the very last word. This is a must read, no doubt about it. I look forward to reading more from this amazing author in the future.

So this was a unique book to read. So we immediately jump into the story. You learn about Ivy McCloud and that she is a ghost or is she. So naturally I needed to read more to see what happened to her. So in this book the world knows about the supernaturals. So Ivy works for Alex Dunham and he is a vampire. Due to the state that Ivy is in, she is able to do things others cannot. However, no one knows what Ivy is. Since her ordeal, she was changed. So one days someone she can see ask for help and she does. She learns a lot more about the supernatural world while helping Millie. She learns that she still cares for Alex. She also meets Perry and she has chemistry with him as well. So what will happen. Will she be able to help Millie and get past her anger with Alex? Will she find out what she is? The ending is shocking and I need to know what she will do? So overall this book was awesome!

I was a little disappointed with it - the story itself was interesting but the execution was lacking. At the beginning of the book, Ivy explained that everything she used to feel is now dulled -sadly I, as the reader, felt it too.

Slow start to a quick wrap
Ivy is exhausted. At 18 her mom passed from cancer. Her dad had devoted everything to her mom and just disappeared when she passed. She was left alone, barely an adult, with only a crappy boyfriend and a crappier apartment. It took her 2 years to climb out of the hole and just when she lands a great job, she dies. Sort of.
Spoilers ahead.
Oh, there's so many questions.
*I'm guessing her dad may show back up. Thinking with that reveal, that whatever bond he shared with his wife broke, he faded but is still around.
*What all other beings exist?
*How did the other shifters come to be if wolves were there first? Is it like canine evolution? Just down the road foxes and coyotes and others splintered off?
*What's the difference between witches and the other ones mentioned at the end? Both have magic.
*Are all the races immortal? But why did some of the wolves look middle aged? Is it a choice? Is it strength?
*We never really see this ghost realm and the ones in it.
*What caused the big reveal? A cell cam? A predetermined decision? Just a lack of being able to hide anymore? And why only shifters and vampires?
*Did they have elected officials in place beforehand?
*Rights seemed iffy. Is it just vamps because of the dead but not thing? Or do all supes have rights issues?
*How do family units usually work among supes? Because the wolves seemed to be 1/1. I can't tell if this is leading into a love triangle (which I loathe) or a RH.
*Is she just staying to milk him financially? She cares for him but is denying him the same relationship she's happy to have with (no spoilers). She's a supe now, that argument sailed. In fact, if (not spoiling) ages the argument she made against dating Alex is a bit hypocritical.
*If there's a Council, how are the crimes in the fighting ring allowed?
*Who makes up this mysterious Council? A rep for all? Strongest? Voted on?
*Goblins are a type of (not spoiling).
*This realm she was pulled to, how does it exist? Did the only other create it themselves? Are there more? Because creating it, and the place mentioned seems excessive for only 2.
*Are vamps and shifters created virally? Blood born pathogen? Shifters were explained as being born, but then said they could also be created by a transfusion. Magic in the blood? Because I can understand vampires drinking blood and then donating theirs to create another. But shifters? I have questions.
It took a long time to like Ivy. It also took a long time to get into the story. There's no immediate hook. And the story starts with a dead body and disposal. Also, Ivy holds a mean grudge. Either she forgives him and still cares and wants to be near him, or she's greedy, holding a grudge, and just using him for money. She needs to pick a side. But it did pick up. Eventually. The only problem was it was almost the end before it did so. And then you're left with a million questions about this world that wasn't explained. Stories are plot driven, character driven or world driven. The plot shifted- ironically, the characters never really grew- just danced or snarked around each other, and the world was barely described. I'll grab the next because I want to see if things get explained. But if this is some academy love triangle nonsense, I'm out.

Ivy died, or so she thought but the next day she was up and running again, not live and not dead. She doesn't know what she is, and the people around her don't know either. She can travel to the realm of the dead and speak with ghosts. She still works as her lawyer boss assistant Alex, but when she finds the ghost of a little girl brutally murdered, she goes undercover to bring the culprit to justice. If along the way she saves a hot werewolf prisoner of a gang of vampires, that's a bonus. Now Ivy has her boss Alex and the werewolf Percy vying for her attention.
It was an original story idea, Ivy is a badass and she is not afraid to get in the way of danger to protect those she holds dear. She has an awesome dog named Axle, one of my favorite characters in the story. Alex is a nice guy, and he feels guilty for turning Ivy the way she's now. Percy has a debt of gratitude toward Ivy for saving him, and he also has the hots for her. The only trouble I had with the story was that the timeline made me confuse on when a lot of things were happening.
I kindly received an ARC from the author, but I'm leaving a voluntary and honest review.

Almost made it to 50%. Nothing really happens in the first 25% of the book. A plot develops when Ivy meets a ghost girl who can't cross over. Ivy herself is some sort of ghost hybrid, she doesn't know what she is. Character development is poor, can't visualize the characters very well.
Ivy continually reminds us she hasn't "been laid in a while", after the third time in a short space I couldn't help but roll my eyes to most of what Ivy had to say. There's a scene in Ivy's kitchen with Percy that is absolutely cringe-worthy, and that's where I dropped out. I'd mention Alex since he's a main character, but both he and Maria were so poorly developed in the first half of the book that they're not really worth a mention.
And since I'm rambling... the scene with Ivy and Millie's dad was kind of strange. The goal was (I think) to bind Millie and her parents to the same location so they could be together waiting to cross over. But it was like the mother had already crossed so forget that plan. Pretty darn good!
What a brilliant and yet different take on paranormal fantasy this book is! I was lucky enough to be given an arc copy and wow am I glad I signed up for it. I like not reading blurbs and just reading the title and seeing the cover so I wrongly assumed this book was about a ghost being bound to her. Oh boy was I wrong! It's way more epic than that. I don't want to say anything that will give away any of the plots but I can say its refreshing and different to any other paranormal book I've read. So the fmc is not dead but she's not totally alive either, she works for a vampire in his office at night and she can see and talk to ghosts......that is where the epic story begins. Delve in for yourself, I've read many books by the author and as always the writing is smooth and flows nicely. There's no overly complicated going round the houses just to make a point in her books. Utterly brilliant and I already can't wait for the next one. Yes there are questions that are left unanswered but nothing that leaves the book on a major cliffhanger!

Then he accidentally kills her however it did not go smoothly - she is not fully dead and not fully alive. Suddenly she sees a whole new world of supernatural creatures and she is now one of them. Then she sees a young dead girl who needs help and she finds herself working with two men who she has feelings for. Can anything else go wrong?
I enjoyed this story mostly although I did find Ivy a little irritating at times. I loved the story of the little girl and how that was woven into the story and how Ivy helped her. I did find the so-called reverse harem nature of the book a bit weird as there isn't one - there is an attraction between her and her boss, but she is now dating someone else and sleeping with only him. Maybe it will be developed in the next book in the series. Contains explicit sexual content.

This book gave me serious True Blood vibes with the supernatural murder mystery. J.E. Cluney has given another unique cast of supernatural characters which I really grew to love. The main character is still sore at the fact that she was accidentally kinda killed, and her killer is appropriately awkward around her. They have a great chemistry working together and it's sad that they've been form apart by what happened. But I do enjoy the tension between them.
Also I really wish we'd had the full scene with Percy! I understand this is a slower burn romance but I still need it! Especially since it was talked about later in the book! I hope this is fixed later in the series. I really enjoyed this book and I'm excited to see what cases they're going to continue to solve, especially since there's questions that still need answers.

Cute and interesting ghost story
I thoroughly enjoyed this read. The beginning of a series, we meet Ivy, who is a ghost, kind of. She's been dead 6 months but we're not quite sure what she is - not 100% ghost is the only thing everyone agrees with and so the mystery begins. Ivy works for a vampire, Alex, as his secretary and boy is that relationship complicated and full of tension! Ivy is sassy and kind and ends up embroiled in a who dunnit mystery once she discovers a little girl ghost. The story was good - interesting and intriguing. Ivy was human so the supernatural is new to her and she is learning to navigate this world as something other herself. Then there's Percy, a werewolf she rescues, who openly likes her. Both Alex and Percy are hot and sweet and seem drawn to Ivy and I can not wait to see how it unfolds. All in all worth picking up to read!

Such a great start to a new series! J. E. Cluney did a flawless job of linking spirits, vampires, and shifters in this book. It seemed that everything had a connection to something else going on within the different communities. What started out as a small problem eventually snowballed into an even larger issue that encompassed several species. Let's not forget that Ivy has her own drama to deal with. Being her half dead ghosty self, she has such a unique gift for fully connecting to spirits that are unable to move on. With her big heart and the drive to get things done I know she will take on her new found powers in stride and probably surprise us as well. I can't wait for the next book to see how Ivy develops her newfound powers and to see how things progress with her guys. Will she forgive Alex?

Uncomfortable
While I somewhat enjoyed the world being created here ultimately I can't get past the way the author's views about race come through in her work. This is the second piece I have read from this author where she spends an uncomfortable amount of words focusing on the blackness of her antagonists. At least in this book she didn't infer that the black villain was a disappointment to his race because he was participating in criminal activities.
I get the the RH, self-publishing world just reflects the world we live it and there is a dearth of heriones and protagonists of color (and authors of color) more broadly. But there are too many good writers out there for me to waste my currency as a consumer on this series. I hope the author does some work unpacking her intrinsic beliefs and that her future work reflects that.

Wow! This book was so much different than I thought it would be. Talk about a different twist to a book from what I am used to reading...
This book starts off where the main character is still really pissed that she was accidentally killed. Now she believes she is some sort of ghost since she is still around and can see ghosts. Of course, there is some major chemistry between her and the man who accidentally killed her. Deep down inside, I am rooting for them, but Percy was quite the plot twist and sexy as hell. One ghost mission sent Ivy and Percy together for quite some time.
This book was a great read and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

This book was a great read and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Semi-ghostly and boring, mostly 👻
I'm seriously dispirited. This book - the part that I read, anyway - is just kind of blah. Or as a vampire would say, "Blah, blah, blah." I liked the blurb and the idea of a kinda sorta ghost female main character. I was intrigued by her situation as a ghostly person or humanish ghost and her work and romance situation. I had to stop, though, as the story slogged along and I wanted to write in red pen all over the whole thing.
I tried, I really did. After around 20% I had to stop. So many grammar mistakes, run-on sentences, and typos. Crazy making.
Plus, it's set in Portland. Which Portland, I don't know. I also can't picture any of the main characters. A lot of description is missing, but there's a ton of exposition.

Beautiful Slow Burn
JE Cluney introduces us to a new series (Portland Ivy) that will revolve around Ivy (Ghostbound), a recently alive, but not now, administrative assistant to a hot vampire.
This story provides us with a soul searching dilemma... How do we help others when we also need help?
Ivy is that strong female lead who knows what is right, and chooses to overcome obstacles to help others. And she finds her beautiful soul in some interesting situations!
Oh, by the way, even when you are somewhat undead, you still have feelings and can fall in lust with some unique characters!!!

Super cool story
Ghostbound really is a cool, intriguing story. You have Ivy who’s working toward solving a murder, yet I found it to be a lighter, sweet story. Of course it’s also filled with mystery as we try to figure out exactly what Ivy is. I’ve got to say, I tried making her a lot of the more unique shoes I’ve heard about and what she turns out to be never even crossed my mind; though I’m still curious about the whole ghost aspect. Anywho, another wonderful book by Ms. Cluney and exciting start to a new series. I can’t wait to find out more about Ivy and watch her relationships grow.

I really liked this book for a few reasons. The first is that you don’t really know what Ivy is until the end of the book, but even then things are still unclear. The second is that the storyline is interesting and takes precedence over the romance. It was heartbreaking about Millie and her family and I’m glad that they got a good ending. I can’t help but feel that Ivy’s friend Maria is keeping something from her and that it’s not just issues with her mum. The third reason is because of the chemistry between Ivy and Percy, as well as the complicated relationship she has with Alex. I can’t wait to see where the series goes next.

Brilliant read
I enjoyed reading this story about a girl named ivy who is between dead and alive after an accident that will change her life forever.she works for her boss Alex who is an Australian vampire who's charming and incredibly good looking.They both have past felling for each other but ivy is trying to ignore her it.I found it sad when ivy comes across a ghost girl named Millie who she ends up helping.ivy end up having more challenges while trying to help Millie and meet new challenges along the way and faces thing she never dreamed off.this book was funny,heart warming and I couldn't put it down and can't wait to delve in to the next instalment of this book.

It happens to Ivy, but she's not really dead, and she's not alive. She's somewhere in the middle. Working for a Supe lawyer and figuring out her new life is keeping her busy.
The fact that her hot boss is the one that got her into this semi state of living is a bit grating.
But, the pay is good and who else is going to hire a semi living assistant.
Helping her friend with her psychic business is half the fun. But finding a ghost of a murdered child puts Ivy on to a new path and farther into the Supernatural world than she has been before.
