B.K. Bass does a fantastic job taking the reader on a roller-coaster ride from Night Life Book one into Book Two. The main character, Harold Jacobson is a wanted man on the run- an accused cop-killer, and he is desperate to prove his innocence and solve the murder of a local woman, Evie Simms. Not an easy situation to find himself, considering all of his financial means are on a barcode tattooed on his wrist and attempting to scan it would alert every computer in New Angelas's police control ca ...more

Back in December, B.K. Bass threaded the needle with Night Shift, a taut, tense cyberpunk-detective-noir crossover. As with its predecessor, the newest edition in Bass’s Night Trilogy, Night Life, maintains that same taut, uh, tenseness. Is that a word? If it wasn’t, it is now. Both books read like classic detective novellas with bad guys and anti-heroes and basically no one to trust. Bass does an admirable job of building a world that no one in their right mind would want to live in and then dr ...more

I was happy to be able to score an Advance Readers Copy of Night Life by B.K. Bass. I read the first book in the series Night Shift, and enjoyed the rough and tumble exploits of detective Harold Jacobson. The story continues where Night Shift left off. Jacobson pursues justice in futuristic Los Angeles (now called New Angeles) amid corruption, sexual exploitation and violence. Okay that could describe LA today. Well. in the future there's even more. The action is tense and the writing is sharp. ...more

Another fabulous installment to the Night series. Night Life carries over the emotional turmoil of the first book, and adds to it exponentially. With the classic noir feel still front and center, we get to know Harold Jacobson a little better and what drives him. Not all is as it seems. This was a compulsive read for me, I couldn't put it down once I started. ...more

This book is another ride through the shady world the author has created. The characters are well one and the "Catch up" is done in a way that keeps you from having to go back and re-read the first book. The trials and tribulations of the main character are fleshed out well and you can't wait to see what happens. ...more

The perfect follow-up to Night Shift. Suspenseful builds, meaty reveals, visceral action, phew! I enjoyed this book very much. Bring on book three!!
