First off, I think it's pretty obvious that I'm a Stormie Omartian fan. I've read several of her Power of a Praying... books and I plan to continue to read more. She's helped me tremendously on my journey to a better prayer life.
I sought out The Power of Prayer to Change Your Marriage when my husband and I hit a bump in the road in our own marriage (what marriage doesn't have those?) and despite having The Power of a Praying Wife, I felt like I needed something different--something more. And so I ended up getting The Power of Prayer to Change Your Marriage. As with the other Power of a Praying... books that I've read, I took this one slow in order to maximize information retention. And there came a point where our marriage felt more stable and secure and I didn't feel the urgent need to press on in the book like I once did, so I put it down for a spell.
The wonderful part about this book is that you and your marriage don't need to be struggling in order for you to benefit from this book. Ms. Omartian's books usually follow the pattern of a different topic per chapter. Within the chapter, she discusses the topic at length and provides a sample prayer and scripture (Promises from God) on the subject. But The Power of Prayer to Change Your Marriage went another step. She included three prayers at the end of each chapter. The first prayer was always a Prayer of Protection. This prayer is designed to protect you, your spouse, and your marriage from experiencing this particular problem to begin with. Or if you both struggle with the issue, it helps to cover you both in this area. Next was a Prayer for Breakthrough in Me. This obviously covers if you are the partner struggling with the topic of the chapter. And finally, she included a Prayer for Breakthrough in My Spouse designed to cover your spouse should he/she be the one struggling with the chapter topic.
Because each chapter included the three different prayers at the end, I felt each topic discussed was covered in every way possible. Most of the time, I found that even if I didn't think we as a couple or I individually was struggling with a particular chapter topic, once I read and prayed the prayers she included, I realized that I needed improvement more than I originally thought.
As I always feel led to include in my review of any Christian book, Stormie Omartian's books do not contain the standard. They do contain Scripture and I have learned much from her. But I find that there are some things she says that I don't 100% agree with. And so while I do recommend anyone and everyone I can to read her books, we must always compare what man says against what God says. The Source for truth is and always will be the Bible--God's Word.
One I thing I know for certain, you can't pray for your marriage and not see improvement in yourself, your spouse, and/or your marriage. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you (James 4:8).

Could reread. Great prayers

Stormie tried to cover all areas of marriage...to help you cope with it all. I liked the book, but it's a repeat from Power of the Praying Wife. If you have that book, you most likely won't need this one too. I feel like she keeps writing these how to pray books, just to keep selling books....she needs to slow down a bit.

Read through the chapters that seemed pertinent to me. I love Omartian's writing style, really speaks to me. Also, I like that the author has lived a less than perfect life, and shares what she has learned from that. She speaks of God as a loving Father who cares about the details of our lives. Will keep this one on my shelf for reference.

This book was a very well written book that provide great advise and prayers from the scriptures for your marriage. This is the forth book I have read by Stormie and like the others I highly recommend it.

Stormie Omartian blesses us again with this book, covering several big issues that make marriages difficult. With more prayers and example stories, she restores hope to even the most desperate marriage.

I actually want to reread this with my husband, it could be used as a weekly devotional per chapter. I have been married 27 years and making God the foundation of marriage is crucial to happily ever after.

A good read on difficulties that any marriage may go through and ways to pray about. It also contains a good collection of prayers for your marriage as well as for the husband and wife separate. I will keep it to reference.

I've never read a book like this before and it provided me with a totally different perspective on marriage. I will continue to read and use it in my life on a regular basis.

Very powerful book, filled with hope, even for those in the most hopeless of marriages! Stormie reminds readers that no marriage is beyond repair for God and that through Him alone, you can find hope and strength to find restoration. (With acknowledgment of abusive relationships and unfaithfulness)
This book is filled with guided prayers for the spouse reading this book (continually reminding the reader to focus on their own heart before praying for changes in their spouse) as well as prayers over the spouse and the marriage in general. The chapters and prayers are not geared toward either gender and are applicable to both husbands and wives.
I especially appreciated the reminders that no marriage is immune to temptation and even the healthiest of marriages will be attacked.
I love that this book is so Christ centered and hope filled, written from Stormie’s personal experiences. I highly recommend this book to any married person, struggling in their marriage or not!

I listened to this book on audible from the recommendation of a pastor friend. While I did enjoy the prayer prompts, I would caution a new believer to read or listen to this book.
I wholeheartedly believe that God can reconcile any marriage. I wholeheartedly believe that God can answer our prayers. I also wholeheartedly believe that sometimes God answers our prayers in ways we don’t want. This book left me feeling like if I have enough faith God will answer my prayers in the way I am asking him. Thus, if my prayer doesn’t come true, i must not have faith. That’s just not true.
Now, that may not have been the authors intention. Regardless, i would want someone who could discern the truth to read this rather than someone who is new and learning the truth of Scripture.

Amazing book, as all of hers are
I love this book. I have been praying the prayers from Stormie’s books for years. They are powerful and give me great hope when there seems to be no hope in me. I have prayed some of these prayers in hopes for great miracles, but not sure if what I am praying for would really happen, because it seemed to have to be a miracle if it were to happen. They did happen and our Mighty and loving God heard my prayers and overwhelmed me in answering them. We all have hopeless times, but knowing God answers, our hopelessness can become less. Always pray fervently. God hears us and answers according to His Will and what is best for us.

This book took me a lot longer to read than I wanted, but it was because it’s like picking up the Bible. I don’t ever really want to do it, but I know it’ll be extremely beneficial for me if I do. I took a lot of great information out of the book and bookmarked all the prayers, which I found incredibly helpful. Overall, this was a great book for me to read as a young newlywed.

An amazing book for every age and stage of marriage. One I’ll definitely be keeping in the shelves for years to come. I love how it includes prayers for the wife, husband and both at the end of each chapter. I hope all hope isn’t lost but believe it there’s also a chapter for that - pray marriages live in love despite how hard it is we’re encouraged to stay on track because God is with us in and through it all.
