What do you think?

What's That Word? Vocabulary Quizzes
Is your active vocabulary strong enough to think of the best word to describe a given situation? It’s one thing to know what hundreds of words mean, but it’s more powerful if you can think of the best word to use when you need it. Our goal wasn’t to stump you with the rarest of words (but we did include words that could appear on a standardized test, such as the SAT). Rather, these 400 puzzles are designed to test the scope and effectiveness of your active vocabulary.

On the one hand, I think this book is brilliant. I'm always eager to read anything that can expand my vocabulary; I was an avid dictionary reader as a child, if you can believe it. But I have to admit that What's That Word falls a bit short of what I think would work as an educational resource.
Efficiency
The fact of the matter is that there are many more efficient books and tools one can use to develop their vocabulary than this particular book. In essence, while you're certainly bound to learn from it, I don't think this is the kind of book you learn from quickly. This is especially if you're reading it in ebook format. And, in the end, this is all due to the answer set up. Whereas more effective tools provide the answer fairly quickly, this one requires a lot of flipping to get to them.
In the end, I found myself really just reaffirming knowledge I already had and feeling like the work to learn new vocabulary made the book, overall, less efficient and effective. And that really is my biggest complaint about this one. I think, ultimately, that this is still an incredibly useful book. But, if I'm being completely honest, I would probably look elsewhere to build my educational level in this topic area.

Throughout your life, especially those years when you went to public school, you’ve been tested continuously on everything that you’ve learned. You had been given questions and you had to respond with the correct answers. Game quiz shows also gave questions and contestants had to give the correct answers, that is until Jeopardy came along and reversed the rules of the game; they gave the answers and contestants were required to give the correct questions.
What the author, Douglas Grey, has done here in his book is to give readers 400+ definitions and they’re required to respond with the correct words. This results in a reversal of one’s thought processes in being able to match the correct response with the question being posed. However, there’s actually nothing new about this as any logophile [lover of words] will know, since this is what crosswords are all about.
The book’s title describes precisely what authors, like myself, go through and experience as we endeavor to write our manuscripts and get caught up in thinking about the prefect word to use in what we’d like to communicate to our readers, as we repeatedly ask ourselves “What’s that word?”
For wanting his readers, including this author and book reviewer, to experience a “new” kind of vocabulary test and a reversal of our thought processing, I’ve given this endeavor by Mr. Grey 5 STARS.
I’d won a KINDLE copy of this book through a giveaway the author had on GoodReads, and the above has been my honest opinion.

I won a copy of What's That Word? Vocabulary Quizzes by Douglas Grey from Goodreads.
What's That Word? Vocabulary Quizzes by Douglas Grey will have readers searching their memories for that tip-of-the tongue term they just know that they KNOW! This challenging puzzle book is great for anyone who enjoys quizzes and for those who would like to build a better vocabulary. Each puzzle is extremely brief, often a single sentence, and yet the test of skill and memory can be huge.
The book is the perfect size to keep in the car for long road trips. What's That Word? may be small in size, but it can bamboozle!
