I feel like I should have liked this more than I did. It ticks so many boxes for me: trans; a series of poems with the same title throughout the collection which are remixed versions of each other; tight controlled language. And yet it didn’t hit me the way I wanted it too.

The use of rhyme throughout was interesting. It seems rare to me for young ‘literary’ poets to use much rhyme. I think part of why it didn’t end up working for me is because many of these poems feel like exercises or slaves to

This was the first collection of poetry I have read cover to cover, I really enjoyed it. At times funny, other times perceptive in the same way a child can be. Felt very wholesome and was really accessible poetry.

In full disclosure, I know Oscar. Our paths briefly crossed at work (I was starting, he was leaving), but there wasn’t enough time to develop a friendship — I’ve always felt a bit regretful I didn’t realise we both loved poetry until his farewell speeches. Anyway, so I’ve been looking forward to reading this collection for a while.

I’m always envious of people with a literary voice. Oscar’s style is distinct. The clarity of his word choices and phrasing carries through a number of these poems, a
